    If continuation didn't go away after pressing almost any other gcd that would help a lot along with no mercy changes

    They could just make the gnashing fang combo like the red mage melee combo. Instead of building up for a verholy/verflare, you build up for a big continuation hit to use anytime you like.This way it reduces the number of ogcds used in nm window, allowing more defensive ogcds to be used instead. This also makes moving the boss less frustrating as well

    Been picking up GNB since 6.1 dropped and completely agree. Any time you have major responsibilities SOMETHING has to be sacrificed in some way, and it feels bad. Outside of the times you have responsibility? Feels good, man.

    They should make it so continuation can hold up to 3 charges and the abilities just give you a continuation charge so you can delay its use if you need to use a defensive.

      @@AnimuBoobaru Nah just make the charges only last 12 sec. you can never save them into nm. or make them unable to be buffed like super midare. my last vid abotu gnb has very good exmaples of this. also you could change the animation on continuation to blasting zone.

    Continuation on Fated Circle and double down would have been cool, but on Burst Strike, kinda weird.
    That skill felt like utility for defensive weaves and moving the boss alot of the time and no longer can be that flexible GCD during no mercy

    If the PLD can have a 25 second Fight or Flight that increases damage by 25%, the GNB can have a 25 second No Mercy that only increases damage by 20%. I also feel like that third cartridge was added simply to pad out the GNBs traits section of the skill book more so than to give Double Down and excuse to cost 2. They could have easily made it a 60 second CD like Sonic Break and only cost one cartridge and give that trait slot to extending No Mercy.

    I agree that gunbreaker is design as a dps first. It might’ve been intended to be a dps which shared gears with dragoon but reaper took that role :)

      I think it would be better sharing gear with rogue, both have more to do with agility (in arm movement at least)... and would make sense with someone job change :P

      @@dolphinboi-playmonsterranc9668 idk if you following the story or not but post HW thancred is unable to use aether anymore = no magic capability, so its only logical that he convert to tanking job as in ff14 DPS job all of them using aether on their kit.

    I agree with Xeems!
    if they made these 4 adjustments, GNB would be really good:
    1. Put continuation on a stack system and allow you to use continuation at any point within 30s after using the gnashing fang combo or burst strike. It would hold up to 4 stacks.
    2. Give NM a 25s duration.
    3. Increase the range of continuation. To allow for easier boss movement.
    4. Give Gnashing Fang a higher potency than Burst Strike. A GCD that you can only use every 30s should not do less damage than a GCD you have access to at all times.
    Edit: I had 4 adjustments in my mind before posting this comment, forgot one after typing 3 of them, oops lol. And I just remembered what the 4th is.

      Only have GNB at 80 but you an another comment have sold me on the charges for Continuation. I kinda just wanted the No Mercy time increase. Good changes all around tho.

    Truly believe its the other way around: they added a cardridge and then thought: "oh s*** thats too much actually, BUT we could add an action that eats TWO cardridges..."
    "okay we do it that way"

    It's hard for people to understand that things we like sometimes have aspects we don't like that are fixable, and we want them fixed because we like them. It's a job in a video game, at the end of the day it isn't the end of the world to ask things to change. I wouldn't be surprised if people who defend this stuff find it annoying on some level too, they just don't care.

    Ngl, as the filthy gunbreaker causal I am, the job is so much fun until I have to do something, if there is a buster or I need to move the boss then I’m having a rough time but otherwise it is so smooth and satisfying, hitting those burst windows just feels so good

    I agree that the no mercy time period needs to be extended (maybe for a longer cool down or some potency nerfs) only under perfect circumstances can I fit everything into the burst now

    Now that I've watched this dedicated video, I think you're right that extending no mercy would do more than most people give it credit for when it comes to fixing potential clunkiness and frustration. just having the 2 extra GCDs inside the burst window gives you room to weave defensive cooldowns between all the dps weaves.

    100%. As soon as Burst Strike got it’s continuation, this job felt so much clunkier to me. Popping mitigation in the middle of burst windows feels absolutely terrible.

    I think if they made Continuation a ranged projectile, it would fix a lot of the problems GNB has.

      Unless you also make it a stack system, making Continuation a projectile doesn't resolve any problems due to you having to be in max melee range to get Continuation off.

      Making it ranged goes against lore mechanism of gunblades used by players. They will never go against that.

    I think wether they started the design as a tank or not, the thing they wanted to achieve was for it to feel like Squall from FF8 / Dissidia with continuation. And that fantasy of pulling the trigger while slashing was succesful. However I agree with everything you said. I think GNB should've been a dps to fulfill that ff8 fantasy and fit in it's role at the same time.
    But it's whatever to me.

    That is 100% how I felt about GNB.. I was hoping that it would be fixed, but I finally got time to get into it, and yeah... I have to agree. It is fun yes, in fact while doing some redesigns to the main character of a comic/game I am working on.. I decided to basically make him my GNB, Gunblade and all lol.

    Yeah the issue of gunbreaker is timing and you have to find the right time to pop off which is either you don't help raid wide mitigation or you hope to all hell you get covered for tank buster.
    I feel that maybe if they fix skill speed no mercy would be fine. But it is short

    I am GNB main progressing through p4s, I 100% agree. Amount of weaving GNB have to do is insane. It takes some work to consistently do perfect rotation on frickin doll. On normal or extremes class plays great. Problems with weaving and defensive CDs become more prevalent on Savage Difficulty - where unmitigated TB can one-shot you, not to mention popping some CDs for AOE spells - it really can mess up the rotation. There are some tricks you can do to increase damage output but that requires extra work - like custom opener per encounter.
    So - we have very fun tank to play, especially on lower-end content. On savage - it turns out GNB is hard class to master. On the top of that DRK will probably overdps you anyway. Oh well...

    Every time you use an ability that would have made you use Continuation, should instead give you a stack of Blasting Zone so you can use it whenever you can fit it in without feeling restrictive. Make it busy, not restrictive.

    from my dungeon experience as healer darknight is the worst to heal the other 3 tanks are great especially gnb and warrior

      drk is awful in dungeons compared to the others. leveling drk after war was the worst leveling experience ive had in this game playing tank

      @@XenosysVex See the problem i have with gnb in dungeons is its super hard to tell of im using defensives right. Ill cycle my cds on a wall to wall and by the end ill have no cds and still be almost dead.

      @@c4ownz300 have not played gnb yet but its best if you use the defensives with lower cds first like rampart ect so they are back up quicker at least that works out for me the best ive only played warrior and pld in ew and boi warrior feels busted with the self heal i literally need 0 heals in boss fights lol

    I’m a Gunbreaker main. I do agree that No Mercy should be extended to 25 seconds. You failed to mention the gap closer was increased too, and our rotation isn’t interrupted by Lightning Shot.
    $100 says they will add continuation OGCD moves to Fated Circle, and Double Down in 7.0
    I love the fact it doesn’t feel like a tank, that’s the allure of it. In my opinion Paladin is more clunky then Gunbreaker.
    Anyway I love the videos, keep making content strummer. I look forward to your Pandæmonium progress.

      I don't mention it because all tanks got it. That not gnb specific. It was just a flat buff to all tanks.

    Continuation should be a builder-spender thing (the cartridge moves could build the gauge) - that way you can spend it on demand when you aren't moving the boss or having to spam defensives.

    I do worry about breaking Gnashing Fang or losing Continuation and getting pigeonholed into finishing my combo versus doing literally anything else I need to do, but if I could deal with ShB MNK for 80 levels, I can tolerate this.
    Then again, MNK's jank got reduced in EW by getting a free proc of Formless Fist after every Perfect Balance/Masterful Blitz and GNB on the other hand still has to deal with getting pigeonholed with Continuation.

    For me gun breaker still has this issue. The biggest problem seems to be that the class was so tightly designed for what it launched with that adding or removing anything makes the job worse and I don't think they're ever going to be able to go back to how it was since they need to keep adding and thus keep subtracting abilities.

    Everything about GNB could stay the same atm, they just need to add another one or two ways to gain cartridges, cause as xeno said its hard to have all that you need to fit in the windows.

      I dont think its hard, its just annoying to not use burst strike or not be able to use burst strike as a finisher, with double down using 2 cartridges you need to keep at least 1-2 cartridges the entire minute your NM is coming back up.

    Gunbreaker works best as off tank when you focus mainly on dps and occasional tanking

    I feel like they could put the continuation animations on the attacks that utilize continuation, and just have level 70/86 be a damage buff and animation extension IF YOU DONT WEAVE to the combo and burst strike.

    Gonna be honest it felt so assuring to see you point out how bad continuation is for a tank job. When I tanked in ShB on gunbreaker continuation was such a pain in the ass when I needed to pop defensive cds during that.

    As a White Mage, I ABSOLUTELY despise getting paired up with a Gunbreaker in the duty finder. They are actively making me feel like a more toxic player because I genuinely have to stop myself from wanting to just leave the group and doing something else for 30 minutes and eat the punishment.
    I've never played one so I can't understand what happened with Endwalker and why so many of the ones I encounter are just bad (I would normally blame myself but I have zero problems healing any of the other tanks) or why there are so freaking many of them right now but it's driving me insane.

      The problem you seem to run into is what happens when I watch other players use it, they just run in as a DPS in disguise and forget to do their tank roles, I've never had issues as a gunbreaker because I don't forget to keep my defensive cool downs going. A lot of people see gunbreaker and just shove the DPS combos with no other thoughts. Meanwhile other tank jobs have it all built in and you don't have to think as much to pilot them (save maybe dark knight some times.) Gunbreaker has always been technical in it's diversity, kind of like the red mage of tanks, when you get a really good one they are amazing, when you get the rest it's just trash..

    I know they said they'd never do this again, but I feel like Gunbreaker should be split into two classes, a tank and a damage dealer, like how Arcanist splits off into Summoner and Scholar.
    While I've never felt issues with doing the damage rotation as well as using defensive cooldowns when I need to (note that I haven't played any tank in Endwalker yet, this is small Shadowbringers experience from levelling) this class so clearly should have been a damage dealer, and with how people feel about it having a damage dealer rotation and the thoughts expressed in this video the only way I can see getting the best of both worlds out of the idea of the class is if they gave it the Arcanist/Summoner/Scholar treatment.
    That way if someone wants to tank with Gunbreaker it can be a more solid tank while also allowing it to be a pure damage dealer in the form of a separate class so Square can give it that kind of rotation instead of amalgamating the two.

    Maybe emphasize the GUN in gunbreaker and give continuation a slight range. Might help with boss mobility.

      Lore wise, the swords don’t have “guns.” They’re designed to “break through” ranks of gun wielders. It’s all about causing explosions of aether like a short range grenadier, which is why the moves are set up as they are, and why even the ranged attack GNB has isn’t a shot fired.

    what they could do with continuation is turn it from gcd to ogcd to gcd to ogcd etc. into a single ability with 4-5 gcd attacks kinda like the pre continuation gnashing fang combo, but longer, i feel like that could get rid of some of all that damn double weaving and maybe all skills could be fit into the burst window
    idk the idea needs to be more refined but its a start it guess

    I feel like from just leveling that GnB is the ultimate off-tank, can survive the big hits but goes ham on dps...and then moving boss might be less of an issue.

    Tbh they should just remove sonic break amd bow shock gnb doesn’t need a dot. I think a simple fix is removing some cds that you need to weave in between. Gnashing fang combo and burst strike to hypervelocity is already a forced cd, the best thing they can do is to relieve us from double weaving. Or what if they just remove no mercy? That way we dont have to worry about putting all our ogcds amd powerful skills in that window.

    I think that while your criticism is valid to an extend, it is ONLY applicable if you are considering a setting where you want to get rank 1/max performance. The only thing I agree with you on is extending no mercy to 25 seconds, and lowering some other potency to compensate in order to make it possible to fit everything into your burst window. And even then, it's just a brain thing man. You will do same damage as before, it will just be part of your last burst strike + hypervelocity, than your X skill that will get nerfed, so in the end, even that is kinda pointless.
    As for the rest of your argument, mostly on continuation, believe it or not, even on world first, delaying your blasting zone/bow shock by one gcd to press a heart of corundum is NOT a high enough dps loss to truly matter. And even then, the tankbusters are so spaced out that this will be incredibly rare.
    You are overreacting. You can still output a respectable 95+ log even if you delay an ogcd once or twice in a fight. Moving the boss around is also not a huge deal, there is rarely that much movement to be done that is urgent enough to let your gcd drift, even on ultimates.
    What you are arguing about is the class being badly designed just because it cannot do its optimal rotation in an extremely niche, rare situation. Ppl who disagree with you aren't stupid. In fact, I think that it's more stupid to argue changing a class' core concept based on a dude who likes to push out uptime strats to achieve rank 1 lol.

      I kinda agree with what you said but there are many circumstances that if you’re the MT, you have to move the boss immediately and it’s when NM window is up. Like in TEA if you’re tanking cruise chaser or in E8s during the mirror phase BS where you have to move the shiva quickly so your melee can have their uptime. It’s all doable, many people was still able to do it in different ways like doing a tank swap or something but you cant deny the fact that it’s a pain in the ass to do. It’s not fun to do NM while moving the boss.

      @@King-2077 You are right, but as I said, my main issue is just that fixing continuation when it makes the class so fun for niche situations is just against fun. Even if I chase parses like a maniac, I would never ask for a class to completely scrap what makes it fun just to make my 95 percentile in an ultimate a 98 instead. Like what would be next? Throwing away the 15-20 seconds ranged window of Paladin because they cannot auto attack or let spirits within/circle of scorn drift due to being out of range? Or remaking all paladin ogcds to become long range, further dumping down the class?
      Xenos needs to realise that GNB is an attempt to make a different tank, it satisfies a great deal of players, and it would not do so if it was another deliriun/IR bloodspiller/fell cleave spam bot. He says he really likes GNB, what does he like if not continuation? The 1-2-3? XD
      Also it is ironic. Xenos always complains about DRK and their tbn, ld, etc, and says the other tanks have it better. Well GNB has continuation as a small issue, while PLD gets heavily punished if it fucks up its rotation. Only outlier is Warrior, because it is just such a simple class really. At least you had to play around its gap closers last expansion haha.

      @@Zindril i agree with what you said completely. Xenos main complaints are always making it easier for him to get his 99 parses. And I have been commenting that a few times but I guess he will just ignore it. My main problem with xenos is, he wants the tanks to lose their identity because he thinks the other is clunky or shit. Like you said tbn, tbn is unique to drk and yes heart of corrundum is now better but xenos hated the fact that tbn is tied to your dps. That what makes tbn fun IMO, it gives you the challenge of properly using tbn so you dont lose that mana, but he complains because it is not easy for him, and that’s the same with gnb’s continuation. He complains because it is hard.

    I would rework GB as a play style of reloading different type of bullets for different situations, like 3 bullets that can give you more damage or critic chances on your skills , another set of 3 bullets that can power up your abilities to heal you for every hit you do , another set that does splash damage on every hit with any ability , and a defense type cartridge wish gives you a shield and builds up for every hit you land with every 3 of 4 bullets

      @@fatjoe460 EXACTLY, I first tried playing FF14 during ARR and made the poor choice of playing tank first, then monk. I also had no-one tell me I could play all classes on one character, the helpful pop-up hints weren't there yet. Monk's initial gameplay pushed me right out of the class and I was not interested. These people also praise positionals, but forget that Dragoon had to spam the 1 button over and over because they couldn't do their combo in some Heavensward raids.
      Overall, these people sound like crack addicts who have had the crack taken away from them. They act SUPER passive aggressive, and lack confidence that it will bring in new blood, and when new blood chimes in them roast them for not maining monk for years!
      These people are insane, I hope Xeno does a video on them lol.

    Im not a GNB main so apologies if this is wrong. I always thought Burst strike was meant to be your filler when Continuation is on CD so you dont cap on charges. Not the end of your combo like you explained in the video. Thats how I always saw it anyway so It made sense to me that it didnt fit in the window. That way they gave it an extra attack just to make your filler stronger while your burst combo is on CD.

    At level 80 you get used to continuation for 3 gcds a minute and the job becomes very comfy and fun to play. During savage and extremes I could usually play around mechanics and boss movement even as a maintank and I even got my Ultima clear with it. Adding more continuation didn't really bother me, you can call that stockholm syndrome, but what fucking bothers me is this atrocity called Double Down. Basically you go from needing just one ammo for each No Mercy to 3 out of 3 which makes some trivial things like having to burst strike right before No Mercy (this is a common occurence!) into an actual rotational issue and it's infuriating. Because your ammo generation rate is basically the same, losing any sort of uptime can delay your DD or cuck you out of it entirely and it's infuriating. It's getting to me so bad that I'm considering switching to a bloody Warrior. It's depressing.

      I’ve just gotten my Gunbreaker to 90 earlier today, and from the role quest alone things felt so wrong compared to even level 89.
      I basically cannot use Burst strike without having to make sure I have three cartridges already because of double down being available so often.
      It’s definitely messing with my muscle memory a lot, when you could almost always get alway with throwing burst strike without causing issues.

    Black Mage needs to cast spells, but sometimes they have a responsibility to move and that prevents them from casting spells. Is that a poorly designed class?
    Look, say what you will about Continuation. Yeah, it makes moving bosses needlessly harder and can fuck with defensive cooldowns. But leading with "if this isn't clunky, you're stupid!" is such a shitty way to talk about anything with anyone who doesn't already agree with you.

    I'm a simple guy... I like outdpsing 90% of the dps players in expert roulette by No mercy+Doubledowning on wall-to-wall pulls. That + HoC actually being good now is making me love EW GNB. Although, that goes right out the window doing anything other than 90 content...

    I played GNB all of ShB and is the first tank I got to 90.. saw the final rotation and went to level up Warrior. Sorry not sorry 😟 I prefer to do a little less damage and be more comfortable moving around than being a machine-gun who can't pop defensives during the burst window

If they did keep it almost 100% the same I would say increasing the "reward" for proper execution. That idea of, the harder i'm going to have to work I need proper compensation, I do believe you touch on that in your video there.

    I'd honestly prefer if all the offensive shit were *also* largely its defensive shit. Have Burst Strike inflict damage suppression. Give Continuation 5 seconds' leniency from its generator or the previous step in the Continuation combo and have it give parry chance proportionate to up to X damage that would be mitigated. Hell, at that point we could have even more 'hit ze buttons' apm and all would still be mostly fine, even choiceful.

    In shadowbringers I tried tanking with gunbreaker in Eden savage. I thought it was only a little annoying to MT, until I did E7s... the add phase kiting was pure CANCER! I swear I was fighting the urge to jump off the platform everytime. So yeah I agree with xenos. It feels like sht when you have to choose between tanking properly or optimizing your damage, something the other tanks dont have to do.

    the way i feel they made the rotation in endwalker is they just wanted us to stop doing the 2 hit combo just to add another cartridge after using up the 3 cartridges, but instead fit the time to refill the cartridge exactly the time that gnashing fang comes back. so just stop "overfilling" the cartridges

      Squall is also prominently shown as a DPS in all the Gacha/crossover games. It's a good tank, but it probably should have been a DPS.

      So from a mechanics perspective this would go a long way to alleviating the moving the boss problem with GNB (although, not all the way). However the type of Gunblade you use (a Bozjan one) was designed to be used against Firearms and not be a firearm. You'll notice that even the GNB ranged pull move isn't a gunshot. Like it or not, this game is built around its lore, and such an obvious conflict wouldn't fly.

      I main a RDM and run GNB when I want to tank. Personally I love the playstyle and how busy it is. But then again I don't usually tank in harder content. It does make for a pretty decent off tank though.

    Hhhhmmm. Wouldn't it be better if tehy increased the duration of no mercy so much so, that you didnt have to double weave? That would get rid of most of the clunkiness for moving bosses and such right?
    I love gnb aesthetically, but doing savage as a tank for the first time in EW just doesn't feel right on gnb to me. As i am learning how to position bosses and move bosses, gnb restricts that so much that it would be a nightmare for me. I decided on paladin instead as it was my second favourite tank in ShB, and i love it in endwalker. It feels super tanky and has a deeply satisfying rotation, along with it aesthetically looking the tankiest due to having a shield.

    I agree that for a tank class, it is way too clunky. I do however, like yourself, mostly enjoy playing it. I think that it keeps having the potential to do the most DPS out of all the tank jobs, I'm fine with it being a mess to play in harder content. However, if at any point any other tank class can out DPS it, then I feel like it would be too annoying to play. Why play such a clunky class if it isn't even the best damage dealer out of all the tanks?

      DRK current does more damage than GNB by a slight margin. Damage ranks: DRK > GNB > WAR > PLD

    my healers love me playing War more than anything... they don't even have to heal tank busters in out Savage raids xD so defensively War is the best, but does the extra dps increase that healers having to heal tank less equal the difference between War and Drk, Gnb? I think especially if its Sch they don't even have to touch me ever, so War is just overall better in every regard to me xD.

      DPS difference is almost nonexistent between tanks overall, only PLD sticks out right now. And on AoE DPS WAR closes gap even more.
