Hello Icey! Yes I understand what you mean, but it's okay even if you can't say it in a perfect sentence as long as you try and try to use words that you know. Overtime you will get much better.:)

所 when used as a single kanji character, is read as 'tokoro'. It's a noun meaning 'place'. But in this case, ところ is a grammar pattern and not a noun. They both come from the same word but the usage is different. It can be confusing! 😅
