Two Maples, one Bloodgood and one ...erm... something else

  • This video introduces a Bloodgood maple that I plan to work on soon. Also a repotting of a native maple of some sort.
Both of these trees seem to grow very quickly. The Bloodgood is at a size where I think I could make it into my first tree coming close to being recognizable as a bonsai ;-) I know it has a long way to go, but as a beginner, this is the closest I have come so far.
This is the final bit of footage from the filming I did last weekend. As a beginner creator as well, I am still having significant challenges with the whole filming and editing process. Overall I would say this one was a complete disaster, and would not have been suitable for a full length video. (the original had huge sections of me working off camera because I was zoomed in too much) I decided to just cut it up nice and short and try doing a summary "voice over" so it wasn't a complete waste.

The bloodgood would be wasted as a broom. Wire the branches down into place. Remove the thick apex and grow a new leader from a small branch. Make it more of an upright. The trunk is screaming for you to do it.

Great advice. What about the roots facing down a bit? Is that a good opportunity to do a root over rock? Or should I try and fix that over time?

@@willbreeze397 I'd go slow with the roots and see if you can fix over time. The tree itself when done right will look so imposing it will overshadow any rock, so I would try to avoid putting anything else with it. Keep it all about the tree if possible. 👍🏻 If you do this right this will be one of your best and most favourite trees. Don't rush it. Take your time and enjoy the process. 😁
