This has been extremely helpful. (2) of our guys have been called for holding using the left hand lift (more than 2 officials have called it the same in two games, limited explanation offered when requested) what could we focus on doing better with this move without the call?
Something that I've been doing for a while that helps me with this counter is rotating defensively (counter-clockwise) right off the whistle. I rotate into him, then immediately do the shovel move to pry the ball out of his stick. This works very well against people faster than me because it cuts off his initial pathway, of course assuming he will plunger/not rake. The only problem I've run into is that sometimes, even when I do it correctly, the ball remains in his head. In that case, I kind of jab my head into his hand and try to pry his hand off the stick. That will usually work but it can be harder to pull off.
rotating counter clockwise on the whistle is a good way to give up an easy clamp. If your opponent is using the shovel counter after you clamp then you should be rotating into a defensive exit after you clamp in order to shield your left hand from him. as for trying to "pry his hand off the stick" that is a good way to get called for a hold. Lifting is by far the best way to counter.
Would the moves be relatively the same if we are in a standing up stance or would there be different counters that we would need too know if we rotate between knee down and standing up?
Jams are still allowed. I jam all the time when I went against a fast opponent. The only reason I got called was because I held the jam for more than 5 seconds
Steelerassassin “holding a jam for more than 5 seconds” isn’t a rule. There’s a huge grey area and we never said Jams aren’t allowed. They are getting called a ton more frequently now so it’s not efficient to keep practicing something that will get you called when there are much better counter options.
Thanks for the new content, really useful.
Love this, the same 2 things I coach my guys for counters

thank you for this video very useful
Love this! Going to be using with my shorties as a tool when we are getting smoked. My poles are already becoming fishhook experts.
