Dead island was and always have been "So good in concept, Meh in gameplay, dogshit in execution." In my oppinion, currently the best zombie game in the market is Project Zomboid. It has been the best zombie game i ever touched. And sometimes i wish a 3d zombie game did half as well as zomboid did. State of Decay was decent, but not even in the ballpark of zomboid (again)
well since state of decay 3 is happening lets just hope it expands its base building and community management. SoD2 did a pretty good job but i do feel like its lacking a few things. tho SoD franchise is all about community building and surviving as a group. and zomboid all about ones survival. but i am glad there are some varieties in these zompocalypse games. all fulfilling a certain niche.
@CallForGrandPappy lmao tell me you’ve never played the game and only watched gameplay on TH-cam without stating so. PZ is easily the best zombie game. Sadly, something you don’t see on TH-cam content is how the game feels to play. PZ is one of the smoothest top down games ever. The combat is fluid and dynamic. And it’s game mechanics are deeper then the marina trench. But who am I kidding, we’re living in the age of adhd kiddos who need flashy colorful graphics to get their attention.

He actually comes acrossed way more serious than I was expecting. I beat dead island 3 times back in the day. I still rememeber getting the game day 1 and just loving it. I didnt have friends to play with but playing with randoms was fun and made the experience even better lol
So would yall recommend this, to coop with my son? Me and him loved the first dying light, borderlands, farcry 5/6 ... and its i think cheap now on xbox.
only problem i had with this game was the FoV, which the game does not allow to adjust. The FoV is set too low and it caused motion sickness. thismis then exacerbated by the ridiculously hyperactive head bobbing and then when you get hit, it jerksmand sways the cerma uncontrollably, like it's literally yanking the controls away from you. and then when you're low health, the screen blurs, gets a red timt, the camera starts swaying slightly and all other sounds are drowned out by your character's heavy breathing. it's like it was deliberately designed to cause as much nausea as possible. . .
Xian Mei is always my GOAT. Love the series, have hundreds of hours in all three games. 😂 ❤ I adore the originals, and replay them all the time. I've replayed Dead Island 2 3 times to max out all the girl characters. Amy is my fave. The vibes of the original game cannot be beat. Like the unique vibes of DL1 vs. DL2. Also how come no one mentioned the mirrors in the trucks blocking all visibility 😂

I remember back in the 360 days some dude with a JTAG (yes THOSE days) gave me an invisible infinite damage RPG that made no sound when fired. So I could just open a door to a super crowded room of zombies shoot an invisible silent RPG in the room then 2 seconds later everything just implodes it was amazing lol. Sadly I lost everything tho :(

The hype for this game was HUGE. It's not a bad game but it didn't live up to it. It was supposed to look even better though I think it actually looks better now than whem it came out
I love dead island and riptide despite their shortcomings, the atmosphere and combat is so good that it’s enough to draw me back in every few years. Recently bought and played the second one while it’s on sale, combat and gore effects are great but quests and story still aren’t great
the Definitive Edition version's guns are different to the original's, for some reason they replaced the AK and M4-alikes with the guns from Dying Light, and I think that included the stats if memory serves? I always hated that change, I recall the guns in the original being pretty handy
One zombie game series that doesn't get the attention it deserves is the Zombie Army series, which is basically a 3rd person version of Left 4 Dead, set during WW2.
Oh yes, the Zombie Army Trilogy by Rebellion. The levels in the last game have so much debris crap in them. It is weird to do the one-man horde mode as the Sniper Elite.
Really enjoy playing dead island 2 I think it’s improved upon massively since the originals very fun gameplay combat system story isn’t too bad either I like the numen story plot it kind of adds an bigger story plot to the smash and kill zombies drawn out plot
I dont mind campy fun but everything with dead island was more emotional (even if they didn't make that initial trailer) cuz dying light had its moments of campy but they showed they find a balance if they could id say give techland another shot at it with the way they envisioned it and i really think it could cement itself along with dying light, resident evil, the last of us, the walking dead, etc. And no I am happy that we got wat got cuz we could have nothing its feels like techland is having a identity crisis they cant seem to tell if they want a pure hack and slash campy zombie game or something that takes itself seriously enough to make the story matter on an emotional level
You should make a full album analysis/explanation of Denzel Curry's TA13OO like you did with To Pimp A Butterfly or DAMN. because the album is very very deep and i wanted to see how you would do it because i loved the way you did it before
Just thought I would throw this here because it was the funniest sh!t ever on the first game. Sam b + Gabriel's sledgehammer + Tesla mod + manual swinging = zombie golf. Try it.
I quite liked the first game. I just wish it had a true single player campaign/story and didn't have the weird co-op narrative forced upon it. It was always jarring playing singleplayer and reaching a cutscene, only to suddenly have 3 other people with you. Honestly the game really didn't feel like a co-op game, and I would bet that it didn't start out as one. Looking at it now it seems rather ho-hum and mundane, but a lot of the mechanics featured in Dead Island 1 were novel at the time. I never tried Dead Island 2, partly because I don't like any of the playable characters.
Dead Island 2 was pretty good for the most part. I don't like the cringe dialogue for most of the characters, it's like they came straight of Borderlands but from Borderlands 3 onward (ugh). I wish the story had a more serious tone (my preference of zombie media), but there are some dark and depressing stories/situations you find from journal entries scattered across the game. The gameplay is definitely the best part of the game, a mid story can be excused as long as the game is enjoyable to play. I hope Dead Island continues as a franchise, maybe a 3rd game after the DI2 dlcs are finished being made.
Ayo, Dead Island (as an IP) is owned by Deep Silver, not Techland. Techland DID NOT ditch Dead Island for Dying Light as they weren't partnered with Deep Silver anymore to be even allowed to work on it.
Dead Island 1 and Dead Island Riptide. They were both bangers. Dyiong Light 1 was a banger. Dead Island 2 and Dying Light 2.... They were okay but not on par with the first games.
You and totallypointlesstv prob have the best style of informational and fun videos to these games. Always great to kick back and hear what others say about games that are both hit or miss from my childhood. Keep up the great work!
This a particularly contrarian take on these games. The guy does not seem to realize that Dying Light 1 is from the same guys and shares assets with the first two DI games. You should not trust that guy too much. He sounds like he single-playered these games, which is the worst way to experience the games. Having even one human playing these games in co-op makes them much less tedious. The bot AI is such that it does not do objectives for you, so you have to do most key things alone while the bots uselessly swat at the enemies. Also, they do not revive you like humans, so it is a needlessly crappy, slow experience overall to single-player these games. Dying Light 1 is nowhere as bad in terms of single-playering because of the missing enemy scaling with your levels and such.
I already believe that writing video essays to make already great games sound amazing requieres skill. But to make one to make a really mid game sounds fantastic requieres even more
I think it's different for Everyone's cause I Bought DI2 like 2 months ago and i still play it from time to time and I still have a Nice Time and now even more since The New DLC is coming out
I loved Dead Island and I couldn't believe the second one could be as bad as I'd heard. I tried it recently and couldn't make it through the tutorial. Such a disappointment
I put tons and tons of hours into the first Dead Island game. I loved every bit of it. Picked up Dead Island 2 on sale and after about 5 hours, got a refund. I was bored out of my mind.
Fun fact about the "story" of Dead Island 1, when I played it I didn't register that the random people from the intro were the playable characters, and literally halfway through the game when the first cutscene plays with all four of them suddenly having lines and doing things for a few seconds before vanishing for the rest of the game, I had no clue who they were, having not seen myself all game since character selection and having forgotten what character I was and what they looked like. I still don't remember who I played as lol
I hate games that make quests that arent straightforward, i dont want to sit here for 10 minutes and wander around when all the quest wanted me to do was walk down the street and talk with someone. If you dont like the line in dead island you don't have to follow it on all of my forat playthroughs i explored every nook and cranny but on my second third fourth and many more i just want to get the quest done and get the items i need to get skill points and start running around slaying. When a game tells you what it wants you to do i respect that.
My proof is the ocean avenue quest. Jesus I was ON ocean avenue and I walked up and down that street 100 times I went to a basement garage and explored the whole map but I still had to Google where the fuck to go. It didn't make my experience better it annoyed the fuck out of me.
The first dead Island is still my favorite

Me and my bro been having a lot of fun with dead island 2 since it hit gamepass.
*Can you please make a RED DEAD REDEMPTION retrospective please where you talk about the first game, the second game, and Undead Nightmare!? And can you also make a video about Bully please!?*

Dude calls his video the rise and fall of dead island only to point out the flaws of the first 2 games and follow it up by complementing dead island 2. He went completely of course through this entire video.
Poor guy must be so hard
This made me want to play dead island again, never would have expected anything would make me want to play this game again lol
As much as i love the dead island game, i've always said the trailer ran so the game could crawl. I love the game for it's fighting (it's a fun weapon and combat system).... Would have loved it more if matched the gravitas and story the trailer sold.
I think considering its development history dead island 2 turned out surprisingly well. Hope we get the same studio for desd island 3 with smoother development
Dead island was and always have been "So good in concept, Meh in gameplay, dogshit in execution."
In my oppinion, currently the best zombie game in the market is Project Zomboid. It has been the best zombie game i ever touched. And sometimes i wish a 3d zombie game did half as well as zomboid did. State of Decay was decent, but not even in the ballpark of zomboid (again)
Zomboid looks and plays like a flash game from 2007 lmao
well since state of decay 3 is happening lets just hope it expands its base building and community management.
@@stuglife5514you virgins make up some weird shit to explain away you’re boring ass games, you’re not special or unique because you play some shitty top down game with boring ass gameplay.
@@CallForGrandPappyOkay, so what? Flash games from 2007 were pretty damn awesome.
15:10 my first and only play through I was just about at end game until all my weapons broke and I didn’t realize the workshops cost money to use (I was poor). I was always upgrading bullsh*t weapons cause I had the supplies and that really blew up in my face by the time I got to the church area. Idky i never picked the game back up it was really fun
Edit: (by the time i got that far in the game I had no money for repairs and the enemies were to hard to kill with any default weapons)
Omg man you been cooking lately! I’m so glad
wake up babe new munt chunk essay just dropped
Honestly there’s only bit of dead island 1 I didn’t like was the city bit felt like I got swarmed way to much I wouldn’t mind a few hordes cos I mean it is a city but u constantly got rushed at by a infinite amount of infected that kept running at you like even if u killed all of the zombies around you they would just keep spawning no matter what just got more annoying than fun really fast
Thanks for covering this game, Dead island 2 just has the edge for me. Subscribed
Ryan is genuinely the most likeable character in dead island 2
Ryan was cool. I liked Jacob to and surprisingly Bruno. Wasn't a fan of the females though. They seemed kinda forced in regards to how they acted.
50:03 Did I hear that correctly? It's finished/ barely any bugs!?!?
That makes it better than most games these days.
Nice review homie, Dying Light review when?
It is not that nice. He's stating the obvious while also complaining things that he chose to have. For example, the waypoint tracking being there even though you can disable it by untracking the quest.
@@ihavenoson3384too bad you have an F tier channel yourself

I played the first Dead Island/Riptide with rl homies and it was probably one of my favorite games of that era. So much fun
Hey, does this guy have a discord? this channel is ridicilously underrated and these community discord servers tend to be alot more reasonable in activity.
I think you should double-check what the guy is saying on your own. A lot of these "analytical" takes seem to miss the point of the context.
I actually really liked bruno
Maybe it's cause I expected significantly worse, so his actual character ended up being a genuine surprise to me, but I found his personality actually very likeable. He actually comes acrossed way more serious than I was expecting. I went in expecting, basically that sound cloud rapper character from smiling friends and ended up with someone who was actually pretty pragmatic and kind of a voice of reason.
I beat dead island 3 times back in the day. I still rememeber getting the game day 1 and just loving it. I didnt have friends to play with but playing with randoms was fun and made the experience even better lol
Just started playing it and I’m already having more fun than both of the other two
I played it with my friends. Waiting for dead island 2 on steam.
So many great VAs out there; never thought I'd want more silent protagonists & npcs back.
So would yall recommend this, to coop with my son? Me and him loved the first dying light, borderlands, farcry 5/6 ... and its i think cheap now on xbox.
It’s pretty fun in Co-op but as a kid I remember being quite scared at some moments, depends on age.
Absolutely! Both games are a blast and more fun when you play with others.
I liked how your lol would transfer between dead island 1 and riptide
Dead rising 1 was top tier man I used to watch my older siblings play late at night the vibes🔥
only problem i had with this game was the FoV, which the game does not allow to adjust. The FoV is set too low and it caused motion sickness.
thismis then exacerbated by the ridiculously hyperactive head bobbing and then when you get hit, it jerksmand sways the cerma uncontrollably, like it's literally yanking the controls away from you.
and then when you're low health, the screen blurs, gets a red timt, the camera starts swaying slightly and all other sounds are drowned out by your character's heavy breathing.
it's like it was deliberately designed to cause as much nausea as possible. . .
-"The chances are you're not picking these [playable] characters for their personality anyways."
Bruh, I don't treat my boy Sam B like I do my women.
Dead Island franchise was legendary.
Was? It's still around.

As someone who grew up when parkour became popular ,im still impressed by it ,dying light is fall of dead island as for me it was all dead island had plus awesome movement and traversal
I can still get some enjoyment from DI , DI2 but i constantly thinks about dying light movement
Sadly I lost everything tho :(
I love your content... would you ever do a breakdown of a game that has had me just sweating to understand... F.E.A.R. video game series... Complex and dynamic GG
Dead island 1 is one of my favorite games ever and my favorite Zombie game. Dead island riptide and Dead island 2 were garbage in my opinion
A gamer plays the game. Notices the flaws and finishes the game. This new era of gamers, all TH-cam content.
One zombie game series that doesn't get the attention it deserves is the Zombie Army series, which is basically a 3rd person version of Left 4 Dead, set during WW2.
there was no fall, dead island 2 was very good
Got every achievement on all 3 games and I was very disappointed with di 2 but it’s slightly grown on my so I don’t hate it anymore
"I got a Zombie Army, and you can't harm me..."
Oh yes, the Zombie Army Trilogy by Rebellion. The levels in the last game have so much debris crap in them. It is weird to do the one-man horde mode as the Sniper Elite.
Bro idr ever following you, but I amped up off a 40+ Dead Island video. Let's go
Let's go where ????

it's surprising to me seeing how many dead island fans there are,I've loved this game since i was like 10 it's nice to know people still talk about it
I feel like some of your videos are missing? I thought you had two more uploads after this one but I don't see em. Am I insane 😭
Really enjoy playing dead island 2 I think it’s improved upon massively since the originals very fun gameplay combat system story isn’t too bad either I like the numen story plot it kind of adds an bigger story plot to the smash and kill zombies drawn out plot
I dont mind campy fun but everything with dead island was more emotional
(even if they didn't make that initial trailer) cuz dying light had its moments of campy but they showed they find a balance if they could id say give techland another shot at it with the way they envisioned it and i really think it could cement itself along with dying light, resident evil, the last of us, the walking dead, etc. And no I am happy that we got wat got cuz we could have nothing its feels like techland is having a identity crisis they cant seem to tell if they want a pure hack and slash campy zombie game or something that takes itself seriously enough to make the story matter on an emotional level
You should make a full album analysis/explanation of Denzel Curry's TA13OO like you did with To Pimp A Butterfly or DAMN. because the album is very very deep and i wanted to see how you would do it because i loved the way you did it before
Is it really a rise and fall if the 1st 2 games were mid and the last one was better in everyway?
5:44 can definitely see how this turned into Dying Light
Enjoyed the vid fam
DI 2 rocked played through with 4 different characters!🎉
There was a series? I only remember two games, and one was basically dlc. DI2 looks great
i really enjoyed 2 i love the combat and style of the game i just wish it had more content it probably shouldn’t have been sold as a full priced game
Did I hear a god hand track halfway through? Thought I had it running in the background or something lol
Dead Island 1 and Dead Island Riptide. They were both bangers. Dyiong Light 1 was a banger. Dead Island 2 and Dying Light 2.... They were okay but not on par with the first games.
Lore of The Rise and Fall of Dead Island momentum 100
When is the resident evil part 2 retrospective coming out looking very forward to it
The only correct answer to the question as to who to choose to play as is Sam B.
The book, for the first game, is actually a good read
Thanks king 🤝
I put tons and tons of hours into the first Dead Island game. I loved every bit of it. Picked up Dead Island 2 on sale and after about 5 hours, got a refund. I was bored out of my mind.
Dani is fecking awesome in Dead Island 2
Fun fact about the "story" of Dead Island 1, when I played it I didn't register that the random people from the intro were the playable characters, and literally halfway through the game when the first cutscene plays with all four of them suddenly having lines and doing things for a few seconds before vanishing for the rest of the game, I had no clue who they were, having not seen myself all game since character selection and having forgotten what character I was and what they looked like. I still don't remember who I played as lol
Dead Island 2 showed me how good we got it with Dying Light
Like your personality bro, make more retrospective videos.
