All of the cons are fixed as of the facelift - very less vibrations now - all Led lights - ride by wire allows for a very short throttle pull so at 7k rpm it doesn't feel like its on full revs now - with glide thru technology (gtt) u cannot physically stall the bike it automatically increases its revs and acts like a crawl mode in first 3 gears - the gearing is also engineered better this time
I LOVE my 2018 G310R! I have had it for 14 months. This review is SPOT on with my experience. I commute 44 miles round trip 5 days a week, mainly back roads. For that it is perfect. His evaluation at the end is true in my case as well. City riding=GREAT, long highway travel=not enough power band. Keep in mind, it IS a 313cc single engine bike. After riding others in that class, it is the best for me.
Thank you sir, for this well put review. Obviously you have tons of experience under your belt, so every thought that you've shared with this community is much appreciated.
@@britishlifestyle3432 yes, stalling you overcome by being aware you might do it, vibration you might like it or not. I've checked the Duke that everyone was praising, I wanted to check Honda, but it was unavailable at local dealership and I've checked BMW only because I've just got my license and wanted to have a ride while knowing it has less power than KTM and Honda. And I've sat on it and it felt super comfy, I've driven it and it felt slower than the Duke, but again more comfy. And BMW had all paperwork done quickly, best price, voucher, financing (leasing + insurance). I'm happy I've got it
Great review. I have a G310R 2022 and most of the things mentioned in the review is still valid for the current model. In Japan where speed limit on the highway is mostly 80-100km/h, this bike is not only a great commuter but also quite enough for the highway too, especially in big metropolis like Tokyo or Osaka.
almost 2024... and the pretty imminent introduction of lowering speed limits here in UK.... these smaller bikes will become a LOT more popular.. the game has changed.. NOBODY needs 200bhp superbike anymore..too many camera's.. too much traffic.. time to enjoy the ride like it used to be.. before the obsession with Speed .. the small bike is the new BIG bike perhaps..?
I use my 2023 310R for local commutes and really like the light weight and maneuverability. What irks me is the very notchy shifts. I did change the front sprocket and went up one tooth. I have to admit it makes very little difference in performance. I haven’t experienced any problems with stalling on takeoffs.
Spot on comments. I have ridden both the R and the GS. Great quality, ride, comfort, economy. But this is a town and country lane machine at which it a pleasure to ride. It takes me and the wife with no effort but this is only a 310cc machine and you have to repspect that. D3S's reports on this bike really sum it up. Great site. Bob.
Have a 2019 G310R and his review is pretty accurate. The bike is awesome for which it was designed. I mostly zip around short country roads so I don't notice the vibrations really. I can say that once the bike is broken in over 1,000 miles it really, really starts to shine.
I've had this bike for a little over a year and I have experienced exactly the same as you described in your video. I don't have the need to take mine on the highway and that's important because at an average speed of 75mph around here, it wouldn't be what I'd consider to be safe. That said, if I lived in LA where there's always traffic, it would be a fantastic commuter bike because of how light and nimble it is (perfect for lane splitting below 65mph). Thanks for this video!
17T front sprocket transforms the bike into a long range tourer. lowers the revs by about 500-1000 depending on gear/speed and makes the gearing much more forgiving.
I also have this bike. I LOVE it for the city...not so much for speeds over 100kph. Yes, agree on the vibrations and lack of power on highways. Not enough power for passing when necessary. Yes, agree on the stalling...BUT after a couple of years and servicing...doesn't happen anymore. It used to drop into N out of the blue. That was frustrating. Yes, I'm always double checking before stopping to make sure it is actually in 1st gear. But again, I LOVE it for the city! Great review. Bang on.
This bike is amazing for urban street, mountain road tracks and highway, you have enough power and speed to go secure and follows the highest speed alowed by law, it’s a pleasure to ride this lady with a low comsuption in terms of petrol… and the autor forget that this is single piston and all bike with single pistons have more vibrations, but a big more torque that is what is needed for urban ride

So now, depending on the engine architecture and what I know of the engine, I let myself use them a bit more...
Thanks for the comments, yes you can... however try a heavier bike and you will see the difference for that kind of rides. I have moved to the R-1200-T
Absolutely spot on. I had the G310GS and the vibrations through the hands caused me to sell it after 6 months . That and the fact that gear change in town riding from second down to first was v poor. Positives were that the bike handled extremely welll on twisties and suspension was great too.
Thank you for the review, I was thinking about buying it but I plan to do long trips on the weekends (300-400 km). So its time to check the KTM 390 adventure
Excellent review ! I agree with everything...I bought it recently after a few years not having a bike and stalled a couple of times....I just blame myself for the time I was without riding..now I feel better..same with vibrations...very nice bike for around city...cheers mate

I had the stalling also and once even dropped the bike due to stalling on a turn, low speed. But it is not something unpredictable, so you learn to not stall. Never a problem for me now. I also never had that "ghost shifting" thing between 2 and 1. All other points I agree.
Great presentation. I truly appreciate your honesty. As a long-time BMW owner (1970 R75/5 for 30 years) I wondered about this bike. I will pass. Thanks again! You have earned a new subscriber.
Honest review!!! This bike is not for touring. It's a commuter, especially on surface streets. Not for the superslab. Neither is the Ninja 300 or the Honda CB300R, which compete with the BMW 301R.
I bought one and love it to bits and use it for pleasure and the odd 100mile plus journeys but then I do very little motorway travel mainly 'A' and 'B' class roads using anything up to 7000rpm with occasional 'squirts' for overtaking but he's quite right after that rev. position the motor feels harsh. 7000rpm equates to roughly 70mph which presents me with no problems as it's the legal limit in the UK. Were I contemplating regular Motorway cruising at the limit or 'slightly' more I would not have bought one in the first place, the engine capacity is really too little after all it's pretty much an 'overblown' 250 four-stroke single, a 500/650 would be far more appropriate. I much appreciate a reasoned, unbiased, 'bum on the seat' evaluation. Thank you sir you've done a fine job.
Just took a riding course today and used this bike because I’ve seen it and thought it looked cool but the clutch and shifting issues were apparent the whole time. I would baby the clutch foreword to keep it from stalling and it would still just stall.
Just bought my 2018 G310r a few days ago and I had the exact same complaints after riding for less than an hour. I think I will start to get used to them like you said. Regardless, I think its a great bike and am very happy with my purchase.
I have a 310R 2023 with 6000 KMs. I have a issue already: it seems the clutch basket is a bit loose which makes rattle sound idling, when i acelerate or in a downshift(with engine load) it stops making noise, when i press the clutch lever the noise dimishes by 60%. I went to the dealership and they told me it was "normal" but i had several used motorcycles none had noise
I own the GS Model. Point 1: no vibration, I even removed de rubber peg. Point 2: agree. Point 3: same embarrassement twice until I learned how to avoid that. ExtraPoint 4: rear brake pedal is too low. I fixed adding an extra piece of rubber. Thanks for the video, now I have some info for comparison.
Totally true review, I have a G310gs it has exactly the same issues. - Vibration over 5k rpm - False neutrals when shifting down to a stop - Low quality chain, rusts easily Topspeed is not much of issue for me since most highways here have a maximum speed limit of 90km/hr which can be done below 5k rpm.
Thank you for this honest review, here in India the G310R has gone through a recent big change due to the BS6 emission norms. that have been implied. the BS6 version has got some much better updates and in more promising as they have now had a slipper clutch and ride by wire introduced to it along with all LED headlamps, the vibrations as mentioned by BMW are now reduced but not sure how much in comparison, but the biggest leap taken is dropping its price here in India from a 2.99Lac to a 2.5Lac which is about a 50k cheaper and brings it to a similar pricing to a Duke 390 in India, an aggressive change lets see how this goes!
I have a 2020 BMW G310 R and I too find the vibrations annoying and you're dead right about the downshifting from second to first that's happened to me too.The build quality the BM you can't fault it's great.😁🇬🇧
I've bought it quite recently and I don't plan to use it for long trips, mostly city and around villages for fun. Maybe because I don't sit on 6k RPM constantly for too long, I love the sound and vibrations between 5-7k RPM. I've test ridden Vitpilen 701 1 cylinder and wow this thing was vibrating, but for short ride it was super cool. I have some troubles sometimes to shift from 1st to 2nd, but maybe it needs some breaking in. 320km so far.
@@D3Sshooter OK I'm back after 3k km, maybe bit more (thanks youtube for recommedng it once again). Yes, I can't imagine driving it for like an hour doing 120 km/h. That must not feel right on a highway. It is great in the city. I don't have any issues anymore going from 1st to 2nd, and I don't have it also while downshifting from 2nd to 1st. I do need to keep in mind the staling and it's great that you mentioned that as I thought it's just me, a beginner, not knowing how to drive. You may not have milions of view on the video but I find it very informative and very honest. Cheers
7k rpm, not a problem, when you ride at lower rpm. Swap sprockets. You should be able to get 30% lower rpm with sprockets for 20mph lower top speed. Passenger pegs, I don't have a passenger. Many motorcycles have this 1st gear quirk. Just keep your foot on 1st gear downshift, while you release the throttle.
"Riding on the edge" revving at 7 to 8k?? Nah that is the bike's sweet spot. I own a 2018 (best year considering the on-the-fly disengagement of the ABS to kick the back tire off road). At that rev you are sure to flush the carbon from the cylinders and pistons and even tho there is a bit of vibration it is not fatigue causing. Perfect light bike to flick on the snakes, muscle and spin on the dirt and just zip thru traffic downtown. Thanks BMW for the perfect low budget bike.
your riding exceperience and video review is honest.....even i faced the same...bmw shld concetrate little more on bikes also not only cars....after riding the bike got one point on mind bmw clearly is famous for its cars
in India i dont think we can cruise at 120 kmph for more than 10-15 mins anyways ... except for few big highways ... so i guess this bike is more suited fr such condition.....btw vry genuine review so far i got on this bike
if I would ride 100km each day I would definately take 1200GS, because the relaxed engine and good weather cover from the fairing. only problem it's very tall bike. so R1200RS would be even better. And those new ones have also cruise control.
A true review ! Thanks for this one... I am planning to get myself a g310r , the updated 2021 version ... heard many issues are resolved from the previous versions ... if possible could u do a review of the newer version ?
Thanks for the comments,, yes you can , in fact you can get gaters that go over it. I also noticed that the more recent model has a far better anti vibration arrangement. Much improved
Very nice Review. However, I like to point out not every country has a Speed limit of 120kph. Here in Australia, it is 100kph with some 110kph freeways. Having said that in a 100kph zone you could sit at 95kkph well within the bikes capabilities. For me the bike would be a great bike in City traffic and would be more than capable on longer rides every so often. In your case if you travel 100kms one way everyday then a bigger bike would be a good idea. Thanks for the review :)
i just took safety classes with this bike, and 90% of the time shifting up into 2nd it went into neutral instead. Also when downshifting from 2 to 1, it would usually go into neutral also. Was very annoying and leads me to not purchasing it.
Those issues with the shifting is enough to steer me away for my first bike. That’s too bad. How do you overcome this? Everything else is fantastic. But not safe. Looking now at MT03 or CB300 variants
D3Sshooter you are awesome for responding to fan posts. Unfortunately possibility of death on a false neutral situation is no small issue for me. Unless there has been a proven mechanical solution.
What did you upgrade to? This bike would be perfect if it was 400cc and they managed the vibrations a bit more.. everyone I watch speaks about the vibrations Nonetheless I'm going for it as soon as I can. Got my eyes on a 2019 model with 3500km on the clock
Hey! Nice Video, very informative. I want to get BMW G310R as my first starter bike and use it for everyday driving to university and in the city. I live in Germany and I think the bike is very cool looking and economical. But heres my question now: My hometown is 350km away from where I live now and I want to visit my family once a month or once every two months and I want to know if this is possible with this bike or if I should take the train? (of course I would do 1 or 2 stops on my way) I would prefer to drive on the German Highway (Autobahn) at speeds between 110 and 130km/h
Hi mate, yeah as a 310R owner I can't speak highly enough of this bike (including on racetracks, she is very smooth and responsive!) especially being on the shorter side it fits really well ergonomically and is super comfortable. I also commute around and do long trips throughout the year (300 km usually in a day), so I got a windscreen and hand guards as well, which work great! But yes there are some slight vibrations at higher speed including buzzyness from the engine (you could sacrifice a bit of low end responsiveness for a smoother top end (I am about to change the rear sproket size by a tooth to reduce engine rpm at higher speeds and reduce the serverity of the single cylinder engine braking in the lower gears). Having said that tho, a bike that handles this smooth and is very forgiving, it is perfect to learn on to easily build confidence. Nothing really competes with it at this side of 500cc. If you are able to go straight to a larger bike, go for it if you are allowed to. Hope this helps and that you find a bike that suits. All the best with it :)
@@frankhehler6938 no worries man, the more I ride the 310 the more it's going to become my forever bike until a trimuph tiger 900! Anyways hope the search goes well and the main thing is sit on the bikes, compare and go from there!

I've just ordered a G310R and it's arriving next week. I'll look out for the issues you described. Also, my circumstances are the same as what you've described for you - when my office opens up I'll have to commute on the motorway for about 40 minutes each journey at approx 70mph, so I'd probably want a bigger bike. Just out of interest, what bike did you switch to when you got a bigger bike and what were your thoughts on it?
Hi, I want to replace the headlamp of my 310r with a round one.. Was thinking with the new Honda 150ss. I saw in ur last video that you have a garage of your own. Will you be able to suggest if that's possible?
Done trips in highway for several hours at 120 / 130kms hour and zero problems! 12000kms until now with a smile on my face!

Thanks for the comments, and update
I thing this is the most direct and accurate opinion of my bike.

I have a 2020 BMW G310 R and I too find the vibrations annoying and you're dead right about the downshifting from second to first that's happened to me too.The build quality the BM you can't fault it's great.😁🇬🇧
Thanks for the comments
Great review!
Glad you enjoyed it
The Best ... I'm on my 2nd year on my 2019 model .
Thanks for the comments
I've bought it quite recently and I don't plan to use it for long trips, mostly city and around villages for fun. Maybe because I don't sit on 6k RPM constantly for too long, I love the sound and vibrations between 5-7k RPM. I've test ridden Vitpilen 701 1 cylinder and wow this thing was vibrating, but for short ride it was super cool. I have some troubles sometimes to shift from 1st to 2nd, but maybe it needs some breaking in. 320km so far.
Thanks for the comments, good luck
Just keep your foot on 1st gear downshift, while you release the throttle.
i really appreciate your review
Glad it was helpful!
hello there.. can you tell me you opinion about the pedal of the rear break of the moto? I think it's very difficult to use it...
Yes it is..there is nt much to say about it... but you can always modify it
"Riding on the edge" revving at 7 to 8k??
Thank you
Thank you for this vid sir.
Thanks for the comments
Was actually thinking of this bike for next purchase, but after your excellent review decided not really the bike for me.
Thanks for the comments
in India i dont think we can cruise at 120 kmph for more than 10-15 mins anyways ... except for few big highways ... so i guess this bike is more suited fr such condition.....btw vry genuine review so far i got on this bike
Indeed, a great city bike
thanks, excellent points!
My pleasure!
Finally someone who speaks the truth!
Excellent review well balanced
if I would ride 100km each day I would definately take 1200GS, because the relaxed engine and good weather cover from the fairing. only problem it's very tall bike. so R1200RS would be even better. And those new ones have also cruise control.
Hello, are these issues still the same in 2024?
Why not go with CB500X or Versys-300, they are not that more expensive, but have 2 cyl?
I went at the end for the BMW Nine T
@@D3Sshooter That's unexpected choice LULW
With a gentle gesture you ripped off the cons .

What is this clicks jargon?
How it compares to BMW G650GS?
A true review ! Thanks for this one... I am planning to get myself a g310r , the updated 2021 version ... heard many issues are resolved from the previous versions ... if possible could u do a review of the newer version ?
Glad I could help! indeed they have solved those issues. If I get to one, I will do so
Exchust sound is good or not
Very Good information
Thanks for the comments
Can you swap out the handgrips to mitigate vibrations to hands? Like soft pillow type grips
Thanks for the comments,, yes you can , in fact you can get gaters that go over it. I also noticed that the more recent model has a far better anti vibration arrangement. Much improved
D3Sshooter oh? What was the model year of the one you reviewed?
@@D3Sshooter What year is your model? I purchased the 2019 model.
Thank you, bro
Excellent review
Fabulous review. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
So how can you fix the vibration issue on the bike ? Is it a matter of changing the suspension?
Very nice Review. However, I like to point out not every country has a Speed limit of 120kph. Here in Australia, it is 100kph with some 110kph freeways. Having said that in a 100kph zone you could sit at 95kkph well within the bikes capabilities. For me the bike would be a great bike in City traffic and would be more than capable on longer rides every so often. In your case if you travel 100kms one way everyday then a bigger bike would be a good idea. Thanks for the review :)
Thanks for the info!
i own beverly 350 it have what this bmv 310 is mising , and vice versa
thenx for good reviev
Sorry for the late reply , as i was away for work. But thanks for the comments.
i just took safety classes with this bike, and 90% of the time shifting up into 2nd it went into neutral instead. Also when downshifting from 2 to 1, it would usually go into neutral also. Was very annoying and leads me to not purchasing it.
Thanks for the comments
Get a bar snake for the vibrations, very cheap and easy solution and buy some better pegs for the passenger.
Thanks for the comments
Those issues with the shifting is enough to steer me away for my first bike. That’s too bad. How do you overcome this? Everything else is fantastic. But not safe. Looking now at MT03 or CB300 variants
Thanks for the comments, its not a major issue and a good bike. Try several bikes and see what you like best
D3Sshooter you are awesome for responding to fan posts. Unfortunately possibility of death on a false neutral situation is no small issue for me. Unless there has been a proven mechanical solution.
What did you upgrade to? This bike would be perfect if it was 400cc and they managed the vibrations a bit more.. everyone I watch speaks about the vibrations
Nonetheless I'm going for it as soon as I can.
Got my eyes on a 2019 model with 3500km on the clock
Very honest review to me ,thank sr i was about to get one ..
Glad I could help
Do you have some tips for alleviating or fixing the problems before It becomes an issue? Most especially the vibrations
You can but anti vibe rests
@@lawrencemonro2568 Thanks a lot!
@@frankhehler6938 no worries man, the more I ride the 310 the more it's going to become my forever bike until a trimuph tiger 900! Anyways hope the search goes well and the main thing is sit on the bikes, compare and go from there!
Thanks for the comments
Thanks for that video im also using 310 but the gs one it is almost the same i can say above 7000 rpm i cant see something at the mirrors that is also bad i think but its a great bike for city
Thanks for sharing
I've just ordered a G310R and it's arriving next week. I'll look out for the issues you described.
Also, my circumstances are the same as what you've described for you - when my office opens up I'll have to commute on the motorway for about 40 minutes each journey at approx 70mph, so I'd probably want a bigger bike. Just out of interest, what bike did you switch to when you got a bigger bike and what were your thoughts on it?
I got the BMW R1200R, and now I changed that to a Nine T BMW
Nice clear and good voice sir 👍
Thanks and welcome
Hi, I want to replace the headlamp of my 310r with a round one.. Was thinking with the new Honda 150ss. I saw in ur last video that you have a garage of your own. Will you be able to suggest if that's possible?
Yep that is all possible, as long as the power consumption is about the same
What model did you buy instead please?
I went for the BMW r-1200r, but that is also gone and now I have the Nine 1200 T.
thanks to share useful information
Thanks for the comments
Did they solve the vibration issues in the 2018 model? If so I’m about to buy
yes , they did
And the clutch issue?
@@webscrapeco No, they did not. I have the GS model, 2019, and is stalling like crazy in the first gear. Very annoying.
