This month, The Card Life is in the Hawkeye State, talking sports cards across the state of Iowa.
We start in Spencer, Iowa, population 11,356. Cattle farmer Kurt Christensen, the owner of Ripping Vintage Packs, explains when his passion for collecting unopened packs of sports and entertainment cards started.
Kurt also demonstrates some tips for checking to see if sealed packs have been previously opened or tampered with.
We talk more vintage cards with CSG, who graded the most iconic card in history at the end of 2022. Vice President and Senior Vintage Grader Andy Broome, goes through some details about the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card, that you might not have been aware of.
We stop by a local card shop in Council Bluffs and open a Negro Leagues Centennial Set in search of a player that may soon be playing for the Iowa Cubs, on his way to Chicago.
Matt Strahm also reviews his 2022 season with the Red Sox, when opening packs and boxes of cards became a big part of clubhouse culture.
