Anybody get this to work on the steamdeck? I assigned it to the left trigger but it isnt working

That is because the Steam Deck in Desktop-Mode changes the default Controller Layout. Right click on Steam -> Settings -> Controller -> Desktop-Layout (all the way at the bottom)
Took me some time to figure this out too :D
Edit: what also works is to install AnyDesk (or any remote access Software) then go into Desktop Mode close the steam client
