In this timelapse portrait painting demo, I did an alla prima oil sketch portrait painting, using a limited palette. I did this oil sketch portrait in my sketchbook of my sister in one sitting, wet-in-wet. I primed the paper with acrylic primer in order to paint my oil portrait studies.
This is a great way to practice alla prima portrait painting in oils without the expense of canvas.
Generally an alla prima portrait sketch uses a limited palette (the Zorn Palette is a common painting palette) to make colour harmonies easier for the artist, but you can choose any oil palette you prefer.
