Mads didn't want to be the only one being dubbed. So he learned to say the lines in german. There's still a few lines originally spoken in english and later recorded in german.

You can still hear the accent but he's doing a really good job and the accent is kinda iconic for him so I'm not judging
Of course you can, he's danish! If you'd speak any non native language, you'dhave an accent as as well! And as a German, I thought his German was very good and understandable!

He's even got the local idioms down pat and they still dubbed him over in the german release. This is a crime against art and the effort he put into this role.
Not really. He knew he was going to be dubbed but still wanted to properly do his dialogue in German (instead of English as the producers intended).

Why on earth did they dub him in the German version?? He put the effort in to learn the lines in German and then they dub him anyway. What a waste of a lovely voice, lovely accent and hard work.

Doug Jones learned his lines in Spanish and was dubbed too - not a German thing per se, I'd say.

having recently watched die hard 3 and now seeing this, its such a relief to see a non-german actor actually speak somewhat good german
A lot of Danes speak fluent german, of course some better than others, but we start learning german in our early school years, about age 8 I believe
No one starts german lessons until 5'th grade.
And you can choose french instead.
People in south of Jutland may speak German well.
But generally not in the rest of Denmark.
English is by far the second language in DK.

It is a crime this version is pretty much impossible to get. Like I paid money to watch it, only to realize they dubbed him with a German actor. He made the effort to learn another language for this movie, he does an amazing job with it, and then they replace his voice. I hate it and I hate the German dubbing industry as a whole. Won't watch it until I find the original version, hence the one where they let him keep his own voice.
Update: The dvd has a version with his real voice so I bought it and I just watched the movie. What a great film and Mads' accent gives his character even more charm. I understood every word he said perfectly well, no freaking need to dub anything.

@@dwightschrute832 Apparently it was the plan from the beginning to dub it. They really wanted him to star in it but it was a German movie and he spoke it in German so they lip movements would add up. I just think he did an amazing job and it's easy to understand what he said so they wouldn't have had to dub him.

Well Mads is Dane and most Danes understand and speak German. If you listen to southern Danes and northern Germans speak they sound identical.

The Door is such a calm roller coaster, seeing Mads character living the new live like usual but wrong things happen gradually, good pacing. I love that it's visually beautiful but also creepy, didn't expect to be that pretty unsettling to the end of the movie, very interesting bloody redemption, love the bitter sweet ending 🔥🫂

The DVD-version definitely contains two german versions, so I guess the Blu-ray does as well.

Always thought that Danes had it easier to learn german, 1 because of it borders to germany. 2 many words are loan words that is the same in danish.
That's true i guess. We have german in school and the languages have similarities. But essentially that doesn't mean it easy 😝 easy languages for Danes are swedish and norwegian, german has hella complicated grammar compared to danish so yes. Vocab and pronunciation is made easier, grammar is just f-ed
For me, a german, Danish and Dutch are easy as fook to learn (Can speak both almost fluently). Lots of similarities in speach and words.

40% of Danish is identical or near identical to lower German (Plattdeutsch). Danes make it near impossible to understand due to their Danish accent tho.

Ja, es gibt auf der DVD sowohl eine deutsche Fassung, in der Mads aufgrund seines Akzentes synchronisiert wurde, als auch die Originalfassung, in der Mads deutsch spricht. :)

Mads ist mein absoluter Lieblings Schauspieler, kann es kaum erwarten "druk" zu sehen . Der Kinostart wurde auf März verschoben

@@NikNikle99 genau, Casino Royale war der erste Film mit Mads den ich gesehen hatte.
War auch schon damals ein riesen fan der Hannibal Lecter Filme /Bücher und hab die DVD zu der Serie gefunden und dachte ohne Anthony Hopkins guck ich mir das nicht an . Hab Mads dann aber auf dem Cover erkannt von seiner Rolle in Casino Royale und wusste das er einen Hammer Bösewicht spielen kann also hab ich die dvd mitgenommen und jetzt ist er mein Lieblings Hannibal Lecter, er hat die Rolle einfach perfektioniert, hab danach angefangen seine anderen Filme zu gucken. Bin ein großer Fan von Jagten und "a Royal Affair " ( weiß den dänischen Titel jetzt nicht)
