The fact that some people cannot answer immediately is testimony to at least one British value; modesty.
Sometimes the best people find very little good to say about themselves.

National values are based on national history and current trends, and can be both positive and negative. Based on this, two positive values I'd say are British (don't have to be unique) are determination and inventiveness. Two negative are imperialism (ideological, political and economic) and materialism.

    Fair-play, freedom, blind justice, individualism.
Fair-play; 'that's just not cricket,' a nation that forms ques this well has a very advanced understanding of fair-play.
Freedom; this is a society where slavery has been illegal (at least within Englands borders) for at least a thousand years, this is a country that banned slavery around the world and held on to free speech at all costs.
blind justice; the idea that the nobility, clergy and peasants should be subject to laws outwidth the kings control literally began with the magna-carta.
Individualism; this is the crown jewel of british culture, the idea that each person is/should be the master of their own fate, not subject to arbitrary barriers.
These principles are profoundly british. the fact is that they have become so globally ubiquitous is evidence of how far british influence has spread.

  • @jonathanaldridge4114
    @jonathanaldridge4114 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Britain has a partially written Constitution rather than an unwritten constitution or a written one. This is not bad as this allows the British government to be change the constitution and our laws when required. We last changed our constitution after the second World War and the First World War. That last change took further powers away from the Monarch. So yes we do have a constitution it is partially written. We also have a British bill of rights and we are the pioneers of the European Court of Justice. So British values are yes tolerance of different cultures and religions and respect, loyalty, duty and family and being open.

Although if people stopped drinking they would be healthier, less people would died as a result of drinking and also the nhs would save so much money as the ER is full and strains the nhs every friday night and weekend.
Sexual morality would save so many from emotional pain that causes suicides and also stop the transmission of STDs.
Anyway you questions are missed place you assume islamic law in the country, when this is not possible and it's not a muslim country so thats out the window, no point in discussing it, it's not happening.
my question: Can define what current british values are?

    Values.
    1) taking up the British past time of Moaning / sniping at people to win an pointless augment to be or seem ''clevah'' (clever) or a so called ''know it all''.
    2) Always looking over your shoulder to see what the other person has that you don't, and despise them behind there back.
    3) Putting people down in any way smug or direct, to bring your self up.While raising ur nose up sky words to express your ''superiority''.
    4) Making processes complicated (old world thinking ) where as other modern nations (Australia for example) things are much efficient and easier (New world thinking)
    5) defend rudeness and attitude with any kind of hypocritical undermining come backs in there daily life (even to this post) or in work.

What are British values? What are trick questions designed to denigrate propositions that can't be answered in 4 hours never mind 4 words?
If I look at the faces of French people when they are singing "La Marseillaise" or Americans clutching their hearts & staring into middle distance singing "The Star-Spangled Banner", I know exactly what they are they thinking. Could I articulate what I know? No, not successfully enough to explain to someone without love of country what it means.
If you have to ask what British values are and need to try to analyse them to the n'th degree, then you don't belong and nothing anyone tries to say by way of explanation is going to satisfy someone like you.

They don't know what they are because the education system in this country did not identify them. It did not need to because those values became inherent over time but that does not mean we have difference values, we do in fact have British values just as I'm sure Muslims have Islamic values which they may not be able to all agree on, off the cuff or even principally.

  • @robertellison4691

  • @GeminiMoon1994

Well, firstly...when you ambush people on the spot, they tend to not be able to think straight. Its pressurising. The old man you kept following clearly did not want to be interviewed, yet you persisted, which is rudeness and NOT a British value.
Whats interesting is the tone of how this man discusses British values. It seemed more like an attempt to discredit British people.
Also, Britishness is something that has been made up to accommodate everybody, The 4 separate countries of the UK have differing views and values. I bet if you asked them what it meant to be English, Welsh, Scottish or Northern Irish, you may actually have got some answers. Tbh, I don't believe this was conducted in good faith.
If you want 4 words, fine:
    Courtesy
    Eccentricity
    No-Nonsense
    Greatness

  • @AlanNewland
