I liked the time he told the witness,” I’ll ask the questions, sir”! The sir was obviously clothed in contempt. I liked McCoy but Stone was what made me a fan.

I don't know why but, I love the fact that Robinette shared some of his pretzel with Stone. I think it just shows how cool they are with each other. Oh, awesome episode too. 😁👍🏾

I remember this episode. the 14 year old didn't know how to read and that's why he went to the wrong address!
The best part
Don't hire illiterate teenaged stoners to do a hit.
That was one of the saddest twists I've ever seen. You don't excuse what he did but it was clear how much they'd manipulated that kid and took advantage of his vulnerability to turn him into a killer.
Ah, yeah, I remember this one, too, especially the dialog.

I just love how Stone threatens suspects.
Law & Order had the best writing I have ever seen on American television. It would be great to see a series about the early days of Adam Schiff or Jack McCoy both were compelling characters.

God, Moriarty was so great as Stone. The way he cut the lawyer off around 3:00, well not cut him off, just flat ignored him as he went to speak, but not raising his voice then. Stone made it known, he was in charge. Then, the real threat. Ben Stone could threaten better then any of the subsequent characters. he was cold. Yet, his character was also very understanding when it came to mitigating circumstances.
S. Epaka Merkerson (Mrs. Denise Winters) played her role to the hilt! The emotion when she learned her son died tore my heart out!! Then she went on to become the famous Lt. Van Buren. Well played S. Epaka!!!
I remember seeing that scene on TV many years ago. If that had been in a movie Ms. Merkerson could have had an Oscar nomination just from that one scene.
She was great.
The acting in this show seems to me to be underrated.

Used to watch this show with my dad as a fairly young kid and loved it, it's even better now as an adult

Just wait for the "C'mon, Paul!" every episode. Loved when Robinette came back and mentioned the question Ben asked him. Loved the continuity.
As I stated before, everyone needs a Ben Stone in their life ! This episode is compelling, for it discussed a multitude of crimes including the "orchestrated death of a baby" ! The irony...! The real estate corruption tied in with a slimy drug dealer !

He played the forensic psychiatrist, Dr. George Huang on SVU, and is currently on my new favorite series, (in it's 4th & final season this fall on USA) "MR ROBOT". He said that playing Huang gave him immense joy, bc he's heard from so many ppl with mental health issues, that he became enthralled w/ that field. Indeed, it was my tweet abt therapy & Mr Robot, (a show about social anxiety, depression, & psychosis, that has the protagonist hacking ppl to alleviate his mental pain) that BD liked. i screamed, tweeted, that i was freaking out, and he liked those tweets, too. Such a great guy, and LGBTQ role model & activist. 💗
The real estate guy's lawyer plays Carrie's boss in The King of Queens, who is head of the law firm: Kaplan, Hornstein, and Steckler. The years and locations of both shows add up. He was a defense lawyer in the '90s in NYC, then in the 2000s he's started and running his own firm with everything: litigation, corporate, etc.
Nice to see Ingram cleaned up his life, changed his name to Arthur Fancy, joined the NYPD and made it all the way to the rank of Captain.

So happy Seasons 1 & 2 are available.... but I'd write off a day's pay for any season with Briscoe & Logan.
Those 2 were dynamite together. And they had some great serious conversations too.

ANOTHER classic L&O. Ben Stone, "...the light of day"! Drug Dealer, "...he's not going to mess with my thing." and Ben Stone, " 15 seconds, they keep you home in Sag Harbor, they keep the Mercedes, five seconds." The writers had a field day with this. And the missing scene of the 14 yr old punk that "aired out the place" thought he should get a walk because he could not read the address correctly. Man! What a program! I never missed it 20 years ago and those stories seem like yesterday.
Jerry Sinclair....Law & Order is a stone cold classic... top 10 tv show in history... no doubt...

I don’t recall the kid thinking he should walk because he couldn’t read; that wasn’t even discovered until the very end of the episode.
McCoy would flailing his arms out...raising his voice. Prancing around the room. Stone was so much more intimidating.
Never been a McCoy fan. Stone was tops!

@@toomanyaccounts That's what I always liked about shows like L&O, The Sopranos, and The Wire--they show that except for the highest-up people, the guys in the rackets are breaking even or getting a *little* ahead. And even the guys at the higher end of the food chain aren't exactly living like Pablo Escobar.
@@insertclevername4123 makes you wonder why people waste so much time and effort into breaking the law to get so little while if they did honest labor they would make as much if not more.
@@toomanyaccounts David Simon has some stuff to say about the drug trade guys, but from what I've read about the mob, part of it is some of the guys are just bad eggs from the start and some of them grow up around the Life, see their friends/relatives being part of it, and see the "straight" guys working harder and getting nowhere while seeing the more successful made guys in the neighborhood dressing better, making their own rules, etc. Can't say I don't see why they would find it appealing, especially when they're too young to see the downsides.
Plus, for both groups, once they get themselves bent with the law, it becomes that much harder to straighten out and do the honest living thing.

Most low level criminals are lazy and stupid, they don't want to have to put any effort into anything so they take the easiest road they can find even if it means living hand to mouth.

The young cousin was played by a 13 yr old Merlin Santana, before he was on the Cosby Show, then the Steve Harvey Show. Sadly he was murdered in '02 - a talented young man.
Michael Moriarty and Richard Brooks WERE ADAs Stone and Robinette. For real. And one wonders if either of them actually may have practiced law in real life, for they were THAT good...
The defendant straightened out his life and went on to head one of the most awfully ran prisons in history

He doesn't look like a drug dealer ? He doesn't look like a killer ? What are they supposed to look like ? This show is great ! Real estate broker and drug dealer played the role in the death of an infant ....
And this Madams and Sirs is why you need a pocket watch. (Ok and this episode was SO powerful, even my concrete heart wept).

I started watching law and order as a kid in the 90s. I remember being the only kid in school. My teacher and I would talk about it all the time. The original law and order, not svu, is probably the best tv that can out of the United States
that's the doctor in Seinfeld that breaks the news to George that Susan died
He was in 4 episodes,
- The Finale (1998) ... Dr. Wexler
- The Summer of George (1997) ... Doctor
- The Invitations (1996) ... Doctor
- The Junior Mint (1993) ... Doctor
He was also on the final season of the fantasy series: "Angel". He played a necromancer, two seasons after Elizabeth Rohm quit as a Detective & bounced to L&O to play Serena.

Although all of the Law & Order franchises and seasons were and are great, I still like the original cast better. They started it all. My favorite was Paul Robinette (Richard Brooks).

Schiff and stone had a very unique A relationship compared to the other district attorneys and assistant district attorneys. You can see in Adam's behavior towards Ben that there was a lot of respect
