Great review, Josh. I live in Tokyo and have been to Taipei twice for business but flew ANA both times. Having lived in Japan for 19 years, being such a super aviation geek and having been fortunate to travel a fair bit, I'm embarrassed to say that I never realized that China Airlines is a Taiwan carrier. I always thought it was just Eva. I'll definitely be checking them out next time I travel within Asia. I'd be more than willing to transit via Taipei to get the full experience. Fantastic review. I must say that I always appreciate your authentic reviews with the great wit.
Taiwan also has Starlux now. CEO is the son of Eva air's former CEO.

Another good thing about HK airport is that they took the opportunity during the pandemic and "down time" to do construction and refurbishment. I wish more airports had done similar and taken advantage of the quiet time.

Great video ! Hong Kong had slowly dropped most of its restrictions since February and last night they decided to remove all laws that were related to Covid ! Now, you can enter Hong Kong just like pre Covid without a mask, vaccination certificate or testing. Therefore, the airport is quite busy now and will only get busier as we edge closer to the golden week in May !
Bullshit. No one wants to go to HK anymore. Whatever HK had is now screwed because of the CCP. I know HK people who don't want to go to HK anymore...it's all gone.

Terrific video! Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth (1986), I was in the US Navy, stationed in Yokosuka Japan. I decided to take some leave around the Christmas holiday, and flew from Narita Airport in Japan to Chang Kai Shek airport in Hong Kong. Yeah, I know it no longer exists, a totally different time. In 1986, the British were in charge of Hong Kong. I did my Christmas shopping there for my family, as well as myself. OMG, the shopping! The night life was something else too. Anyhoo, our entire tour group wound up with Asian flu, and the flight back home to Japan was brutal. We were all so sick. But worth it, as I had a great time in Hong Kong. I hope to go back there some day.
Travelled (only) twice with China Airlines and it was a very enjoyable journey.

Hi Josh! Great review as usual. I really we hope we see them rebrand to Taiwan Airlines. Those new Neos, Max's and A220's (which I just got to fly on recently) are awesome. The A220 is one sweet aircraft, now my favorite. Any luck yet in coming to the U.S.?

Why would they rebrand? Taiwan is the unofficial de facto name of the country... The official name is the Republic of China and they are the only place in the world where you can get a real 'China' experience without the nonsense of the CCP. The Republic of China's national carrier should remain China Airlines.

I think it's a good idea for China Airlines to rebrand to a name that doesn't include the word China.
However, I suspect that Chinese government won't like it.
They have discussed about changing their name, but it is going to be a huge issue with their route like they have to apply it again and have to redo their livery which cost them a lot. Also, as you can tell that China doesn’t like it😅

Thanks for another great video. Since this video was made, Hong Kong has lifted all covid restrictions, and you don't need to wear a mask anymore. The HK airport is also getting quite busy and crowded as life returns to normal.

Ohhh yes definitely rebranding!! I am from australia and worked in travel agent majority of the people here think China Airlines is in mainland china!
One of the reasons I previously would refuse to book with them, but it makes sense given they're the Republic of China, so am more than happy to support Taiwan and their independence.
It is interesting to film how clean the airlines bathrooms are. Do not stop with that.

Short and midterm, there'll not be a rebranding to Taiwan Airlines, but the new livery has smaller lettering and the cargo planes have a stylized Taiwan island in their C of the word cargo.

Josh, interesting you brought up the rebranding issue of "China Airlines" into "Taiwan Airlines".
This has been a hot button topic in Taiwan for decades.
It's also a contentious issue between the two major political parties there as well since it concerns the word "China".
Whether you're for or against, it's pretty much a moot point now bc changing just the word "China" for the airline would involve revising patents, trade rights, and incur contractual litigations on a global scale.
The costs would be astronomical.
People have learned to accept the status quo.
Even with the masks on, those Taiwanese lounge check-in agents were cute.

Missed your videos Josh you were gone for a while as always great video lovely product .
I noticed they had three crew upfront on their NEO this could explain why they offered pre departure drinks etc, I work the NEO for a European carrier going across the Atlantic with four crew carrying 186 passengers 16 in business class and will genuinely don’t have the time or crew to offer this service so it’s lovely to see Air China with this level of service

I share your views about China Airlines; a great airline. 13:37 Passport stamped.... didn't they stop years ago, and instead just hand out that annoying landing slip that has the date of arrival and stay limit? 15:49 Have you ever tried the amazing seafood buffet at their restaurant, Yamm? 16:30 Not sure when your video was filmed, but I left HK two weeks ago and the mask mandate had already been done away with on 1 March 2023, although many people are still choosing to wear them, especially on public transport.

There seemed to be a lot of hype with this particular A321neo. The foot well looks really cramped and the cocoon limits shoulder room. This is obviously not going to be a long haul aircraft, but even TAP and Aer Lingus have a better looking business class in their A321 than this
