I saw Elvis in 74 . He did this song and it absolutely sent chills through everyone ! As good as this sounds, it doesn't come close to how it sounded sitting in the audience ! In another 100 life times there will never be anyone like him !

He had loved this song for years but he only started doing it in '72 when his family life had been turned upside down. Perfect voice for his version of what he imagined it should be interpreted. Elvis was nervous - and dropped weight. He chose the eagle outfit himself to best represent his country. He even got a hair cut after this rehearsal concert because he wanted to truly represent his country as best he could. btw - the jumpsuits were chosen because he would constantly rip normal clothes during his performances. I'm not trying to over-react to the goofy comment whether it was meant in good humor - but wanted to make sure people know some of the truth behind his performance. Elvis was one of the best human beings to walk the planet by many accounts. And he had his vices. This rehearsal concert was awesome - where he had to tone down the televised concert because he didnt want to lose his voice. There's several songs where he really nails it during the rehearsal show and this is one of the songs. Wonder if people realize this is a song somewhat based on a suicide letter. Good God Almighty... Elvis was otherworldly, wasn't he? I remember watching this concert 47 years ago (I was 11 years old at the time) and he gives me chills and goosebumps to this day. Hey may be gone, but as long as we have his music, he is forever with us. Long live the King!

ELVIS could sing any song with conviction. He believed in every song he sang. He took it deep in his soul and every emotion he ever felt came out immersed in the lyrics. You listening to to them felt his heartbreak, excitement, passion as your very own. So you feel connected on a spiritual level. YOU experience the emotion he conveyed. You can do that because he believed his song. A song is a Dream and all Elvis' dreams came true. How can you not love him for that? Elvis was fascinated by power but had so much respect for Authority. He has Blatant Sensuality, but could be a shy Momma's boy. These multiple aspects of his personality seemed to enhance his immage, account for the way his appeal bridge cultural, economic, generational gaps all over the world. Women could lust after him or want to mother him or be his little sister. He was macho enough for young studs to admire, but was devoutly religious & believed in family values. In a strange way Elvis had became everyman. There was always a part of him that struck a responsive cord in the listener - as if he had became a part of you, or you of him.

I will givet some artists of today some credit. I know its a good bit more difficult to get a break in todays music industry, but still, no one even comes close to the voice, the dress, and the relationship with the fans that Elvis had. In a word, he was absolutely mesmerizing when he took the stage. No one had ever seen anything like it. He was absolutely the whole package....looks, voice, moves, stage presence, everything!!! He NEVER took himself too seriously, and never believed he was as good as everyone said he was. So freakin humble, !! Todays artists could most definitely take a lesson or two!!!

That final note! Holy hell could this bastard sing. Who knew that high voice of 56 could turn into this. goofy suit ? For the time period this concert performance was unprecedented as it was the first live broadcast via satellite - something we take for granted now. Elvis was nervous - and dropped weight. He chose the eagle outfit himself to best represent his country. He even got a hair cut after this rehearsal concert because he wanted to truly represent his country as best he could. btw - the jumpsuits were chosen because he would constantly rip normal clothes during his performances. I'm not trying to over-react to the goofy comment whether it was meant in good humor - but wanted to make sure people know some of the truth behind his performance. Elvis was one of the best human beings to walk the planet by many accounts. And he had his vices. This rehearsal concert was awesome - where he had to tone down the televised concert because he didnt want to lose his voice. There's several songs where he really nails it during the rehearsal show and this is one of the songs. Wonder if people realize this is a song somewhat based on a suicide letter. RIP Elvis you are missed.
