The friction bezel is to specification. Back when these were made every dive watch had a bidirectional rotating bezel. I believe the idea of a unidirectional clicking bezel was introduced by Doxa in the late 60s. All of the watches from that era that are still made have since changed to clicking bezels, but it seems vostok is keen on keeping things as they were, and I love them for it.
I heard somewhere that Vostok designed the bezel in such a way that when diving, the acrylic glass expands due to the pressure and presses against the bezel, so that the position of the bezel can no longer be accidentally adjusted. So it's not a bug, but a feature. ;-)
I have many Vostoks, both modern Russian ones and vintage Soviet ones. Apart from being fascinating timepieces with an interesting history, there is no doubt they are astonishing value for money, and just goes to prove you don't need to pay a small fortune for a good watch.
And now I’m envious! You have MANY, both modern AND Soviet? I have one vintage Soviet and I thought I had a small treasure (in historical value, not monetary)! I love it so much I made a small video about it… Congratulations on your collection!
The bezel is designed to be bi-directional because it doesn't depend on a ratchet to keep it in place, it depends on water pressure from 10 feet underwater to accomplish that, which it does, just like the water pressure increases the waterproofing of the case by the compressor case and acrylic dial compressing to make a better seal.
Great review, Richard! Note that with most Vostok watches, you can advance the date by rotating clockwise past 12:00, than back, counter clockwise to 8:00 then clockwise past 12:00 again. This should advance the date by one day each time. It's better/ faster than going clockwise around the dial twice.
On my Komandierski, the reset points are at 10 and 2. Clockwise to 2, counterclockwise to 10, then clockwise past the 12 and it will advance the date. Much, much quicker than advancing the date manually per 24 hours. Also, there's a way to hack the seconds hand by pushing the crown in at an angle, which stops the seconds hand, but I don't recommend it because it could damage some internals.
I hadn't been into watches recently, but since I've started to dig into the topic, being Russian, I've became so amused by the amount of pleasant words which people address to Vostok watches and this review is one of the most delightful and thorough I saw. Thank you for a perfect job and I wish your channel more subscribers and views. Enjoy your watches! Best regards.

A great honest review, thank you. As an owner/collector of well over 100 Vostok watches I appreciate your tip of the hat towards Vostok's achievements. Cheers
I have always been interested in Vostok and other Russian watches, since my wife took me to the Poljot factory in Moscow and bought me a dress-watch (Russian Style) when we got married . Vostok were knocking out the same watch but with a parachute, or a tank or an aircraft painted on the dial claiming these were worn by said category. Gum, and other tourist shops charged at least double (USD, EURO, but not Ruble). I love this particular watch and your video is splendid. I am still saving up for the Sturmanski mechanical chrno they still produce seeing it was worn by Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space. Moscow was a world away back then in the late 90's with Yeltsin reaching rock bottom with his drinking. It was the start of my love affair with all things Russian. Thank you for this fabulous video Richard.
I bought a Komandirskie (blue dial, 'tank' model with blue Yúri Gagarin Bund-strap) in February 1992, off a lad on a train out of Moscow City centre, for about $10 - sadly the watch was mistakenly thrown out in a recent cleaning spree 😢
This is one of the best watch related TH-cam videos I've ever seen. I've certainly subscribed and am looking forward to more like this one. Having a review beyond the superficial is fantastic.
Hi Philip! Thank you for this encouraging feedback .... I love making these videos but it is always really good the hear that they are appreciated! Thanks again. Richard
Thank you for the review! I bought the 24 hour dial version of this, and for that the click-less bezel actually has good use: You can use it as a solar compass. If you set the bezel according to your time zone, latitude and perhaps even the equation of time, and orient your short dial towards the sun, you have your orientation. I always like to have backups on these things, and as long as the sun can be found it’s easily accessible as well.
I have 4 Vostok's between Komandirksie and Amphia's, I love that you can calibrate the movement and make timing near perfect like a swiss watch! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for this in depth video ! It is good to hear from a watchmaker that these Vostoks are NOT crap. I bought myself a vostok 2416b (not yours) some days ago and i must say i am impressed with this quality for little money. Many (not all) western brands are totally overpriced. No problem to buy another watch which is not from russia, but costs 200-300 euros more - and you have nothing better in terms of quality on you wrist. Just my 2 Cents.
Absolutely wonderful video. No need to apologize for "using up way too much time" as it was thoroughly enjoyable and educational. I just subscribed and used your link to purchase. Thank you!
Hey Steve! Thank you so much for this encouraging feedback ... you will love the watch. Mine is on my wrist as I type this and has been my default piece since I did this review. In case you missed it there is also a written article with full performance figures here ... www.richardperrett.com/uncategorized/vostok-komandirskie-watchmaker-review/. Thanks again. Richard
My wife bought me this watch for xmas based on this video review. She got it from Chistopolcity online. I currently have it on a Russian flag nato strap. (White Blue and Red). In the short time I've had it since then I've had no less than five people ask me about it and tell me how much they like it and one asked where to buy it. I pointed her to the two main outlets. I've never in my life had such a reaction to a watch. It's rapidly becoming my favorite.
Hi Peter ... so pleased your experience corroborates my view on this. And yes it's an attractive piece I think so not surprised in the interest it has been getting. Good stuff! Thanks for the feedback. Richard
I have three of this model. (Red, yellow and green). All with colour coordinated NATO strap. Nice and accurate and well made. Very reliable. People compliment them all the time. They've never seen anything quite like them before and they make a nice impression.
I've had one for about a year now , and love it. Best value for money watch. Why buy a cheap fake of something when you can buy a Vostok from a company with history and credibility. Vostok Europe is a different company though.
Wonderful analysis of this classic watch, Kind Sir. I heard from people that dive with the Komanderskie(200m-self-winding), and the Amphibia, and the bezel becomes "activated" when submerged in water. Basically the water pressure causes the bezel to lock and become immobile. Quirky, yet cleverly designed, much like its two piece case back. I love mine.
I visited the factory in Chestopol back in 2000 and bought a load of VOSTOK watches to sell back in NZ. These watches are cheap but exceptional value. Problem now is everybody uses their smart phone as a watch!
I think you should score every watch one to ten like you did this one. Love your content. I'd much rather watch a watch review from a watch maker than some wealthy guy with a you tube channel that just likes watches. Your the real thing brother, please keep making videos. I eagerly wait for each new video that you put out. Thank you for everything.
Hi Jason .... Thank you so much for such encouraging feedback and I am so pleased that you like my stuff. I love my work and I love making these videos and it is always really nice to hear when they are appreciated. Your point about always scoring a watch is interesting and is food for definitely. Thanks again for this great feedback. Richard
Hi Richard, some weeks ago I watched this video and after I decided to order one...Today I received it and I'm very impressed by quality made and acuracy ! it's not the same color but it's the same movement ( 2416b ) . So, thank you for the review !
Thanks for this excellent review. Just bought one. I have a bunch of Vostok Komandirskies from the Soviet era and they are great watches. This one is an updated version, a little bigger but with many of the same features. The red color of this one is superb.
Hi egwpisteuw! I have been wearing the one I reviewed a lot since it arrived. I love it! So pleased your experience corroborates my findings here and thenk you so much for your feedback. Richard
Semi-rapid day change is to move the hands to the 12 then back to the 8 then forward again to the 12 and to redo this until you achieve the desired (or ideally just before the desired) date then advance to the correct date and time. Another thing about the Vostok is that they are incredibly easy to regulate for amateurs ... and as easy to mod as Seikos.
Hey Richard, just found your channel. Great review. My Vostok Komandirskie are 30 years old. Still going ( The date sometimes doesn't work). I don't think I will change them anytime soon !
A most proper and well informed presentation. Just one time viewing your brilliant work made me a subscriber. Have the same wT h in my lot here and yes you do provide a public service.
Hi Benny .... so pleased you enjoyed this video and welcome aboard sir! Richard

Stellar watch review and surprisingly nice watch. Also, the additional comments make this my new favorite watch channel. I bought a decommishioned soviet military watch years ago that happened to have been worn by someone with the same last name. The case back had beautiful landscape engraving. It got nicked. I just realized that I bought a second amphibian and it was a great surprise to dig it out! Now I truly appreciate it! KUDOs to all the added posts as well!
Great video! I built my Vostok from spare parts and really enjoyed the project. It's a watch that grows on you. It's not a perfect watch, but its built like a tank and very reliable.
Hi Kurtis ... I am just working on writing up the performance in all six positions in this article .... www.richardperrett.com/uncategorized/vostok-komandirskie-watchmaker-review/ ... I think you will be even more impressed when you see the full performance review. Is it maybe the case that Russia mass produce what is within a whisker of a chronometer so that it's people don't have to walk around with garbage on their wrists; it crossed my mind as this may have been the general Soviet outlook... what do I know, I just fix them! Thank you sir for your feedback, it's a great watch I figure! Richard
Hi- you still a fan of Vostoks? I feel they are a bummer. I bought a Vostok Komandirskie model no34 GMT auto wind with movement 2426. It seemed like a very nice watch. I had worn the watch while playing golf and finally after about a 9 months the watch stopped while on the golf course due to shock. Anyway I thought OK I will order a new replacement and be careful and not use it while playing golf. After about 6 months the 2nd watch started loosing major time and then completely stopped. The first watch was Titanium; very cool ! I could not find Titanium at all when repurchasing; only stainless. Both watches cost about $200 (now more like $350) . I can not find a replacement movement
@@carlcampbell6827 Hello there! I'm a fan of "my" Vostok for sure! It's from the mid 80's and I treasure it for historical and emotional reasons. I don't own new Vostoks, but I've spoken to quite a few happy owners who say that they are durable and comparatively accurate. I'm really sorry about your experience. I had all my four Soviet watches serviced for a relatively low sum. The one that needed more work was the Komandirskie "parachute" model: the watchmaker had to replace one element of the movement (can't remember which one) but for the rest it remained all original and it's still ticking. My Paketa just nedded some lubrication, as did my Slaba California. My Soviet pocket watch just needed to be opened and than closed. The watchmaker did nothing to it and it's still keeping good time today, after two years or so. You can have a look at my reviews. I'm really sorry your experience was not so satisfactory. Maybe try another watch-repair guy? Thanks for your message!
I just finished watching this video in its entirety and wanted thank you for the honest and fair review of the Vostok Komandirskie! It could have been twice as long and kept me interested throughout. The truth is that your watch is actually closer to an Amphibia with basically the only difference being the Komandirskie dial. The lack of hacking and quickset date is definitely a major drawback, but can you realistically expect those features from a movement that can be obtained for $39? As for the bezel, it is meant to be bi-directional without clicks and this is even the case for the Amphibias. The only exception is a certain line of "SE" special edition versions and (I think) a certain vintage model. I saw another comment of yours stating that you might mod the watch to have a clicking bezel. I would be very interested to see this and how you plan to accomplish it. You may even want to try some other mods like converting a Vostok to hand-wind only with a a flat caseback. There are quite a few official and unofficial sellers of mod parts on the internet like Meranom and "favinov" that I highly recommend you take a look at. Check out a few of the mods I've done :)
Hi 24H! Oh my days that blue dial! (blue sunburst dial with BGW9 lume) ... i just subscribed to your channel, good stuff! And thank you for the information above. Very helpful sir! Richard
Maybe Vostok have recently changed their model specifications, I thought that the Komandirskie was a manual winder with a waterproof depth of 100m and the Amphibia was the automatic winder with a waterproof depth of 200m. This movement number 2416b means little to me. I wonder if it is in fact also the number of the original Amphibia automatic movement?
I love your review on the Vostok, I would like to point out that although it doesn’t hack. It does have the ability to quick date change if you take it to 10pm then onto 3am through the date change and then back to 10pm you can change the date repeatedly.i have subscribed and also look forward to reading your blog.
Excellent video. Just wish you’d listed the music, as it made such a difference. Had to scroll through all the comments to find Prokofiev, then go through another bunch of videos till I found Dance of the Knights. So, thanks for teaching me about watches and classical music!
What you see in the way the bazel works is how Vostok makes its watches. I have 4 Vostok's between Komandirksie and Amphia's, I love that you can calibrate the movement and make timing near perfect like a swiss watch! Thank you for sharing!
Many thanks for the great review. I bought the watch a month ago and it's absolutely great. On the arm, the watch runs approx. 1 minute fast in 4 Days. That is very good for this pricepoint. The bezel has also no clicks, so it should be normal for this watch. I'm very happy with this clock. I#m waitinf for your next review. Cheers.
Hi Dievo ... thank you so much for this feedback. I'm very pleased to hear that your experience corroborates my findings here. It's a great watch I figure. Thanks again sir! Richard
I'm new to mechanicals and love watching your videos. I've learned so much. I have a 1935 Omega that was my father's and Invicta Pro Diver. A Vostok may be in my future. Very nice.
My fourth Vostok is in the mail as I type this. My first was a mechanical Komandirskie that I've taken apart numerous times, sanded the chrome down to the brass and put a new bezel on. The other two are Amphibias, a classic antimagnetic and a newer Radio Room automatic. I've come to love these. These are excellent watches for the price, heavily customizable, even cheaper than an invicta while exponentially classier.
As always, a great detailed review. I have owned this exact watch for a year now and it is a perfect casual weekend watch on a NATO strap. As you stated, no quick date change which is a bit of a pain as I do like my date to be the correct date so lots of winding. I bought before I began learning about watches. I just wanted a red watch. As I learned more, I became more impressed with the simple, but clever design.
If you apply pressure but no movement the second hand stops. I have one and it’s easy. To change date, wind back to before 9PM then wind forward just past midnight. They don’t adjust the watch in the factory AFAIK and many have adjusted their watch to under 10s per day.
Richard I am late on this comment. I watched your review of this watch twice plus watched many other video reviews on this watch. Your review is the best and most comprehensive. I did indeed order a Bostoc Amphibian watch that came in today. The watch looks much better in person. The quality of the watch is amazing for the price paid. Hearing your review concerning the build quality really did convince me to try this watch brand. I even bought a second movement so I could tinker with it and learn how to service it. I bought the basic tools and supply's and have found tutorial video's to use as a guide. From what I can see, and what I have learned concerning this watch it should be a little work horse. It is amazing to me the cult following that this watch brand has but I can understand why. We are tired of Chinese copy's of other watch models. We want watches we can afford-but they must have charm and history, plus originality. Bostoc has all of this. By the way-interesting color scheme on that watch. Again, thanx.
Great feedback Glen .... Vostok is a great place to start as a watchmaker as the design is very good and the movements not too expensive. Good luck with it. Richard
Just caught up with your channel so sorry for being late. That was a lovely and dare I say honest review. It was calm, informative and a bit of a surprise that this relatively low cost Vostok could be compared to some higher Swiss brands. I am going to get a Vostok watch but I am having a little trouble deciding which one.... thanks.
These Russian watches are agricultural very strong, they remind me of my 1970s BMW flat twin motorbike still running! I love these botok/Vostok watches, even though I have high end watches also, the history is worth checking out
Great review! But just to be more precise regarding the bi-directional bezel, one must know that Vostoks in general do not use click stops. The bezel glides both ways and its stiffness depends on the easily adjustable wire spring underneath. Granted...this would be a no no when scuba diving, but a Godsend when one just wants to time activities whether long or short without having to click forever to set the starter time. I often use mine to time my barbecue cooking or for runs. All my Vostoks are great timepieces for the price. It's a treat when a certified Watchmaker gives them a high review mark. Thanks much Richard...and BTW your vids quality is superb and refined...says much about your workmanship. Cheers mate!
Thoroughly enjoyed your video. I've been hesitating over whether to pull the trigger on one of these - you've answered a few of my questions, thanks! Keep up the great content. Subscribed.
Hi Jonathan ... Welcome aboard sir! So pleased you found this enjoyable and helpful. These are great watches and fun to own. Thanks for taking the trouble to give the feedback. Richard
I recently picked up my first Vostok watch, excellent value in my opinion, mine is an amphibia with small seconds and a GMT complication, the bezel could be better, but it makes more sense with mine having a 24hr scale vs a "dive time" bezel
I know nothing about watches, I always buy the cheapest and bin it when the battery dies. Whilst looking on eBay I was drawn to Vostok, and fancied a real 'mechanical' watch with character... I was dubious you could get a decent one for such little money, so search TH-cam to look for reviews on this Vostok Komandirskie Automatic Russian wrist watch 650840. I found your review.... what a great video! I'm getting one based on your knowledge and expert review! Thank you!
Hacking: I've seen demonstrations with the Amphibia that slight outward and backward pressure on the crown will stop the seconds hand, essentially hacking the movement. Others in the comments have well addressed the engineering/design choices regarding the bezel direction/tention and the semi-rapid date adjusting method. Great review, thanks for the content.
A splendid review, Comrade Perrett, and definitive I should think. This is a posh Kommandirskie with the same movement as an Amphibia; mine is a lowly handwinding 2414 and a somewhat different kettle of fish - a dependable item in my experience though. Somehow I've wound up with three Vostoks: a fifty year old dress watch, the Kommandirskie and an Amphibia, and what they all share is the same quality I associate with Russian cameras: they're very hard to kill. Not that I've tried, but the distinct impression is that they're designed to be pretty much user-proof. They definitely have solid, pragmatic engineer appeal, and that counts for a lot with me - well, for some watches anyway. The 2414 has been stable but needed regulating, but the 2416 was remarkably good out of the box and remains that way, like yours. This brand seems to polarise opinions: I like them but am not about to start jumping up and down and waving my arms about - all the same the value for money aspect does seem to be remarkable. Incidentally, you are not the only one who put a NATO strap on a Vostok and had a good smirk about it. :-)
Comrade GenWivern2 greetings! I agree that these watches have heavy 'pragmatic engineer appeal' and its good to hear that maybe the 2416b performing so well in test was not a fluke. I am really very impressed with this movement. I think I might take one apart and shine it up and blue the screws and gold plate the rotor arm ... just for kicks! Thanks again sir! Richard
My Kommandirskies are both hand winding no automatic movement. This one is one of the newer models but you can still purchase the hand winding Kommandirskies with military themed dials. I enjoy mine on the NATO straps and they only cost around $35AUD
I'm late to the party but as far as i know, the bezel is designed like that on porpouse because the hesalite dome will expand under preassure of deep water locking the bezel in place, wich in my opinion is a very smart solution using physics in favor of the functionality of the watch. Anyway, great work.
After watching this review and a few of your other videos I ordered one. I was so impressed with the quality compared to the price I actually ordered a Komandirskie 1965(683219) as well because I wanted a manual one. Incredible value for your money.
Hi Nick ... very pleased your experience corroborates my findings here. I have ordered a new 'special' Vostok and am excited to get hold of it and do a review on it. Thanks for the feedback sir. Richard
Hey, there is a way to set the date much faster by setting the hour hand 3 to 4 hours back and then advancing it forward pass the 12 o'clock mark . Each time that you do that, the date advances a day. Is not as convenient as having a way to set the date like many watches, but this is a faster way. I have 4 Vostok's between Komandirksie and Amphia's, I love that you can calibrate the movement and make timing near perfect like a swiss watch! Thank you for sharing!
The Bezel dose act both ways and with no click just held on by a copper wire. I have about 20 Vostoks in my collection from Komandorski to Amphibia :) Smashing review thank you i love Vostok and have as i said i have many of them , there is no fast date set but what you can do is move the pionters past past the 8 than on to the 12 and it will advance the date. I usually swap out the bracelets or straps straight away as they are a bit rubbish. The Amphibia which is their divers watch is a proper diver designed for the Russian forces. They have the locking ring and compression gasket to give them a water resistance of over 200 metres. Take a look on the net they have an amazing story and history behind them. The crystal is Acrylic and dose scratch easily but most scratches can be removed with tooth paste or Pollywatch. Sorry to rabbit on but when i saw your review i was really excited thanks again ,Darren.
Hi Darren ... thank you so much for all this information. I am a little careful about recommending any watch as a dive watch for obvious reasons but this watches waterproofing credentials do look very good. The case back securing mechanism looks very businesslike. Thanks for the feedback and glad you liked the video. Richard
Great review. I have an amphibia '67 steel in green and a regular amphibia with favinov dial and hands. They are great, robust watches that won't break the bank and you're unlikely to see anyone else wearing one. Looking forward to your amphibia review.
Bezel is made that way but due to coin edge really doesn't move when bumped and even difficult to move wet. More to the point dive watches aren't used for diving just timing mundane things and being able to move the bezel the quickest direction to where you want is actually a pleasure in practice.
My vostok amphibia is a serious, hardcore dive watch, and it also has a simple friction, free rotating bezel. Nobody REALLY uses the watch to time air left, but rather, dive length (and even then, not so much with modern dive computers) but I'm a paramedic, and I set my bezel to time seizures or flow rates on IV's or duration of CPR, and I have never noticed it getting knocked off position with even very vigorous movement. I wish it clicked, but I can live without it. I do wish it wouldn't stop breaking though. One of them broke immediately when I got it, and my current one binds up and stops running. I need to send it in, but I'm thinking about just getting another one that has the date, since that is the feature I like. I just like the unique things russians/soviets did with their watch face and case design. I have 2 antique Soviet watches and love them a lot. They're hand wind only, which is annoying, but they are super accurate and get a ton of compliments, and they're nice mechanical watches with reliable movements for under 40 bucks You also got the specifics wrong. That version of the komsnfirskie is not the 20m/ 2atm version. It's the gasket and bayonet system with a 200m/20atm system. You also aren't supposed to overtighten the bayonet, as the watch actually increases its water tightness the more pressure is exerted, so just enough to seal at 1atm, the water will actually hold the seal tighter and tighter. They've actually been tested to ungodly depths.
My amfibia also not click, it is just standard. But i got some troubles with it. After few years hour hand lume triangle failed off. I didn't take it out straight a way. And it is drops somehow in date window. So it is jamed the movement. I left it in drawer for about 5 years, finally took apart, found the lume. Still need to put everything back.
What an outstanding in-depth review I love the watch I'm actually going to leave this site and go directly to Amazon and make a few purchases a variance of this watch however one of them will be the red of course. I'm a big fan of Jodi and just one more watch and now I'm a big fan of yours I think you did a wonderful job very very easy to listen to and the depth and scope overview that you go into makes the review captivating particularly wanted so watch that I can afford thank you so much for what you do
That's great performance Richard! The manual wind could maybe be tweaked to do better too. Very pleased to hear your experience bears out my findings here so thanks for sharing. Richard
The bezel is an older design and is supposed to be bi-directional with no click. Some early Squale dive watches used this method. It is one of the reasons the watch is so inexpensive. I would cost them a lot to re-tool the factory.
Hi Hamish ... I guess I just like a nice 'clicky' bezel and it seems a shame as the movement and case are so good in this watch. Thanks for the info! Richard
Just put one of these on my wrist, Richard, thank you for this video and everything else you produce, this is the cheapest automatic watch I have ever bought, I honestly can't stop smiling looking at it! Bravo!
Love mine !! Vostok makes a quality watch an I will aquire more of them as time goes on Kudos. Great review Richard, as always your reviews are first rate..
I think this particular model is one of the best quality Vostok models for $73 US dollars. I own 3 Vostoks and like this one the best. The band is quite comfortable. Again $73 bucks! Richards reviews are the best on TH-cam. Please keep them coming.
I'm really considering getting one of these. I'm a huge fan of Seiko 5's but I'm a bit bored with them to be honest so this looks like a nice watch to try out. Great video.
Amazing review on a quirky watch that after you understand how it works just grows on you. At the moment I've got another one, a scuba dude on its way to me..
I have a Soviet era Vostok Amphibia KGB Edition and a more modern "Scuba Dude" both of which I keep on NATO straps. The irony isn't lost on me, in fact it's rather intentional.
Just got one from the factory running a minute fast. It was trivial to get it running at somewhere less than 'a second per hour'. They're really easy to fiddle with at home.
That was fascinating and a good review . I have been fascinated by watches since the age of 3, over 67 years ago. I have the wind up vostok with the rocket tank carrier on it. 17 jewels and it keeps good time as well. Love all these instructional videos as well. I decided that I will not repair my old silver pocket watch as it might not go back together again ! Thanks richard.
Loved that thanks. I just immediately had to buy one, I found one on ebay for £70, UK stock, free delivery. Many thanks for the tip and review. At last I can get away from badly adjusted 7s movements which do not seem to actually come from Seiko any more. I think that Seiko must have sold all that just before everybody decided to go back to mechanical. Typical of top management's "wisdom", a great cock-up that must come close to destroying a really good firm due to everybody and his auntie being now able to buy 7s type movements (1000 up) at $5 each FOB Singapore.
@@richardperrettwatchmaker I find it strange that everybody (including myself) is drawn back to mechanical watches. A $50,00 mechanical marvel is a crazy piece of junk compared to the precision of a dirt cheap electronic watch, so it has got almost nothing to do with telling the time. I now use this emotional theme on my web site - www.quantum-time.org/
I know my comment comes long after this review was published but this is the best and most relevant watch review I've seen. The fact that this is a cheap Russian watch only added more to my interest in the brand. On further investigation I was left asking what's not to like about these quirky designs, so much so that I've bought an Amphibia and am delighted with it. I'm sure there will be more to follow. Thank you.
Well covered review again, as others mentioned this is the "nicer' of the movements. I do like the hand wind ones as well, given what they had to work with at the time these folks did a great job. Necessity is the mother of invention
Hi Mr Scalzitti, I do really like the 2416b movement and it's incredible value I figure. I must take a look soon at the hand wind calibres. Thanks for the feedback. Richard
I bought this watch on the strength of yours and other reviews and I'm very pleased with it apart from the strap which has been replaced with a NATO. My Russian supplier marked the customs label as a 'gift' no so no dreaded duty payable sticker ! I noticed the corporals stripes on the face are on the opposite side to yours.
Hi twozerouk .... good news! I think you will get a lot of pleasure from this Komandirskie; I wear mine probably more than anything else. And the NATO strap is definitely a good way to go (although mine is now back on the bracelet!) .... thanks as always for the feedback. Richard
Thanks Richard, very interesting video. Had considered buying a Vostok for a while and watched a number of videos on the watch, but this video confirmed it for me. Just bought it on Ebay for Aud $125 which is silly cheap! Keep up the great content.
I loved you review on this piece, it made me buy 2 (blue and red) and I subscribed to your channel. I appreciate your content and the way you talk about the pieces, highly informative and interesting. Thanks!
Again Richard great channel, great reviews, & a great in depth look into watch movements. I absolutely love Vostok watches. Dollar for dollar dare I say probably the best watches in the world.🤔 Show me another work horse watch you can buy for in some cases less than $60 U.S on site's like Bonanza..😯 The ingenious design, the reliability, the choices in cases, faces & movements is unprecedented. Amazingly their by far the least expensive watch many serious watch collectors have in their collections. Love what you're doing Richard, keep it up my friend..👍
You can get a stainless steel wire which makes it harder to turn
I heard somewhere that Vostok designed the bezel in such a way that when diving, the acrylic glass expands due to the pressure and presses against the bezel, so that the position of the bezel can no longer be accidentally adjusted. So it's not a bug, but a feature. ;-)
I have many Vostoks, both modern Russian ones and vintage Soviet ones. Apart from being fascinating timepieces with an interesting history, there is no doubt they are astonishing value for money, and just goes to prove you don't need to pay a small fortune for a good watch.
You need to destroy or donate them to ukriane , it's you're duty as a UK citizen .
And now I’m envious! You have MANY, both modern AND Soviet? I have one vintage Soviet and I thought I had a small treasure (in historical value, not monetary)!
I love it so much I made a small video about it…
Congratulations on your collection!
And 4 yrs later, you do have to pay a small fortune, especially if you live in australia.
Same here, in the part of Europe where i live. Just paid a whooping 198€ for a new Vostok Komandirskie K-35.
I just paid 75 bucks for a 2416 amphibian barrel case that's amazing from around 1991...it keeps great time!
Thanks for that
Great review, Richard!

Welcome to the club
Richard
I dug 2 of my Vostoks out of the draw to watch this with me - both timepieces enjoyed the vid as much as I did.
Haha! Good stuff Michael ... watch my videos should definitely be a group activity where possible. Thanks for the feedback. Richard
Did you put them in a glass of Vodka to feel at home? 😁
😂😂😂😂😂

Nice analysis.......I just ordered one of these today......You are now one of my most trusted watch sources on TH-cam!!!
Hi Missile Man ... excellent choice and welcome aboard sir!
NATO strap on Soviet watch? World peace!

I have the Komandirskie 811275 - a beautiful watch and near-perfect timekeeper. I own quartz watches, but this is the watch I value the most.
Everybody? 🤔
I think you should score every watch one to ten like you did this one. Love your content.
Richard
Thanks so much for opening this movement and going into detail! I've been waiting for this video. Excellent work 👍
Hay Dorian! Thank you for this encouraging feedback .... it's a great movement and highly performant.

You are about the only one I've seen who winds a watch the way my grandfather taught me.....back n forth. Thank you.

There is no click to not make any noise in the water while being listened by the sonar colleagues from the other parties...
Very nice review. Patiently waiting for my first Vostok to be delivered to the US. 60+ days so far🤞🏼.
I thought I would never read this in print. They are hackable 🎉 it just requires a very light touch. My 090679 is easily hackable.
Richard
I just received this very model in the mail today. My lovely wife got it for me. This watch is absolutely stunning.
Great review! Ordered one of these watches a week ago and your review confirmed that I made the right decision! Cheers!

I recently picked up my first Vostok watch, excellent value in my opinion, mine is an amphibia with small seconds and a GMT complication, the bezel could be better, but it makes more sense with mine having a 24hr scale vs a "dive time" bezel

Actually I'm more into the Mosin Nagant.
I wish everybody could figure out this delicate hack. It works 100%.
Richard
@@richardperrettwatchmaker The gold plating in particular would be interesting to me.

$35 for a new Vostok is a a veru very good buy in my book. Thanks for the feedback Steve! Richard
Richard Perrett Watchmaker no worries the older models are also brass not stainless steel
Richard
Amazon specs the bezel as "Bidirectional". I enjoy your reviews: Greetings from Yautepec,
Mexico: Keep up the good work, Richard!
I have about 20 Vostoks in my collection from Komandorski to Amphibia :)
Smashing review thank you i love Vostok and have as i said i have many of them , there is no fast date set but what you can do is move the pionters past past the 8 than on to the 12 and it will advance the date.
Richard
Great review, thanks for sharing this analysis about these remarkable timepieces!
Great review. I have an amphibia '67 steel in green and a regular amphibia with favinov dial and hands. They are great, robust watches that won't break the bank and you're unlikely to see anyone else wearing one. Looking forward to your amphibia review.
Hi Michael .. many thanks for the encouragement! I am looking forward now to doing that review ... thanks again and stayed tuned! Richard
I’ve been thinking about picking up one of these for a while. Have no reservations now.
Bezel is made that way but due to coin edge really doesn't move when bumped and even difficult to move wet.
More to the point dive watches aren't used for diving just timing mundane things and being able to move the bezel the quickest direction to where you want is actually a pleasure in practice.
Another great video as always really interesting & informative.
Hi Iain ... thanks so much for letting me know you enjoyed it. Richard
They're hand wind only, which is annoying, but they are super accurate and get a ton of compliments, and they're nice mechanical watches with reliable movements for under 40 bucks
You also got the specifics wrong.
I'm a big fan of Jodi and just one more watch and now I'm a big fan of yours I think you did a wonderful job very very easy to listen to and the depth and scope overview that you go into makes the review captivating particularly wanted so watch that I can afford thank you so much for what you do
Thanks for a super analysis. Really enjoyed your presentation and your knowledge is top class.
Mine’s plus 2 seconds a day. I also have a 17 jewel manual wind one but it’s about +40spd.
That's great performance Richard! The manual wind could maybe be tweaked to do better too. Very pleased to hear your experience bears out my findings here so thanks for sharing. Richard
Fantastic review thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Hi Christian .... Thank you so much for this encouraging feedback.
Richard
@@richardperrettwatchmaker Yep - I have a manual Vostok and the bezel is just a bi-directional friction job. Amazing for the money. Mine cost £25!
Прикольно смотреть про вуостуок куомандирски ))
Круто лайк, hi from Russia
Прикольно то что они показывают апгрейды с ними и всякие гаджеты для их настройки
This is one of the most gorgeous watches I've seen. The color is just amazing and the finish is really good for the price.
Amazing review on a quirky watch that after you understand how it works just grows on you. At the moment I've got another one, a scuba dude on its way to me..
Hi Trevor .... thank you so much for the encouraging feedback. Nice choice ... the scuba dude is cool! Richard
What a great job you've done on this review, got to be the best and most detailed review I've watched. Cheers from Canada.
Subscribed.
I have a Soviet era Vostok Amphibia KGB Edition and a more modern "Scuba Dude" both of which I keep on NATO straps. The irony isn't lost on me, in fact it's rather intentional.
there were kgb dials in soviet era?
On a NATO strap you say, they should send you to Siberia
Just got one from the factory running a minute fast. It was trivial to get it running at somewhere less than 'a second per hour'. They're really easy to fiddle with at home.
That was fascinating and a good review . I have been fascinated by watches since the age of 3, over 67 years ago. I have the wind up vostok with the rocket tank carrier on it. 17 jewels and it keeps good time as well. Love all these instructional videos as well. I decided that I will not repair my old silver pocket watch as it might not go back together again ! Thanks richard.
I have Vostok Amfibia and it have -10 s/day. And you have unique watch object. Usually it show much biger error
Hi MYOB Boy... Very pleased you found this helpful... I think you will love the Vostok. Richard
Thanks!
Hi Marc .... such a good choice! And thank you for the positive feedback which is much appreciated. Enjoy your watches! Richard
I was not sure if I'd want one of these Vostoks, but thanks to your detailed review (and the ridiculous price of £54), I will buy one. Thanks!
Again Richard great channel, great reviews, & a great in depth look into watch movements. I absolutely love Vostok watches. Dollar for dollar dare I say probably the best watches in the world.🤔
Show me another work horse watch you can buy for in some cases less than $60 U.S on site's like Bonanza..😯
The ingenious design, the reliability, the choices in cases, faces & movements is unprecedented.
Amazingly their by far the least expensive watch many serious watch collectors have in their collections.
Love what you're doing Richard, keep it up my friend..👍
Hi Brian ... yes I have had this Komanderskie on my wrist pretty much the whole time since I shot this video! Richard
