This might be the best teaching on the Trinity that I've ever heard. Thank you for posting this, this teaching answered a lot of things that I've wrestled with in regards to the Trinity when I would read the Scriptures.
Question: I understand that the Father and the Son are both divine, and are separate persons/beings. Although the Father is the only unbegotten, still some may accuse the trinity doctrine as being polytheistic, because of multiple divine persons/beings. How would you respond?
Where is the book or the blueprint before it is penned, but in the mind of the author. This (I believe) is what is meant when it says In the beginning was the word (logos) and the word was with God and the word was God.
Do you guys have any teaching on Jesus being both man and God. I hear a lot about Him being 100% man and 100% God simultaneously. If you don't have any teaching on this, can you point to some resources that would be help in my studies of this topic? Thanks!
bigdaddydave1984 yeah buy the $5 CD teaching from Scroll publishing on Father and Son. i strongly recommend you also get his teaching on the Tripartide Nature of man first... then it should all fall into place with scripture.
Subordinationism teachs that there is a difference of nature with the Father and the Son. It asserts that the Son and the Holy Spirit are subordinate to God the Father in nature and being. We are saying RELATIONALLY or Orderly there is a Difference NOT A difference of NATURE.
Westminster handbook to patristic theology[edit] ‘Subordinationism. The term is a common retrospective concept used to denote theologians of the early church who affirmed the divinity of the Son or Spirit of God, but conceived it somehow as a lesser form of divinity than that of the Father.
According to the Eastern Orthodox view, the Son is derived from the Father who alone is without cause or origin. This is not a subordination in time, since the Son is co-eternal with the Father or even in terms of the co-equal uncreated nature shared by the Father and Son. However, this view is sometimes considered a form of subordinationism by Western Christians.
Yep fire from fire. Begotten is symbolic before becoming a man not the same as being born from a man. Created can mean formed from a previously existing substance in the Bible
The description of Novatian was rather unfortunate. Rather than a "leader of a reform movement", he was a schismatic who did not agree with restoring lapsed believers who had given in during the persecution. Much to be preferred was the approach of Cyprian, who had a true shepherd's heart for the lost.
They didnt? Must not have read the DIDACHE. Believed by most to be written by 70ad. It contains the TRINITIAN Formula. 60 years later Justin Martyr explains it.
Someone has never read ANY church history and thinks there are no writings to look at prior to the formation of the RCC that verify the concept of the Trinity in such things like the Didache. Paul, In Acts 17:24 says God made the World and everything in it, yet John 1:3; Col. 1:16; Hebrews 1:2 says Christ did. Do some simple hermeneutics and catch a clue. Either Paul is lying or you don't understand something.

This is a really good 👍 summation of what the ECFs believed about the trinity

Hebrews 1 and Hebrews 2.
How does this teaching differ from subordinationism?
Hey thats a great question.
Subordinationism teachs that there is a difference of nature with the Father and the Son. It asserts that the Son and the Holy Spirit are subordinate to God the Father in nature and being. We are saying RELATIONALLY or Orderly there is a Difference NOT A difference of NATURE.
Many Western Christians would assert that we are teaching Subordinationism. But that is a ignorant way to dismiss this understanding.
