I got the base M4 Mini with 16GB RAM and the 512GB storage upgrade. That leaves me with about 180GB free space. Black Magic shows my internal drive at 4,186 MB/s write and 3,012 read. I knew the larger storage was faster and the computer would have better performance when it needs to use swap memory. I rarely edit video, pets and bike rides mostly, and I already had an Acasis thunderbolt 3 enclosure with a Crucial 1TB NVMe dedicated to that. It has no fan and reads and writes in the mid two thousands. It does get quite warm in use and slows down a bit, but fast enough for my needs. I can go weeks without the external drive plugged in.
WD Black 1TB WRITE - 3036 MB/s, READ - 3011 MB/s. The temperature at rest on the standard supplied thermal pad is 45-50'C, while copying it reaches 60'C (WD BLACK tolerance according to the specification up to 85'C). After using a better thermal pad, 39-44'C. There is a version with a fan on USBC, unfortunately on the max power with USBC, it is quite loud. It is best to connect such a fan to 2xAA batteries in a box with a USBA output, then it is quiet and also works.
@@exploraart to each their i have a tried a few different types with all the same results . my temps with out are more then cool enough and never once. even on heavy loads have i had any problems with tho thats another story..
its not memory is Storage Memory is Ram for running software and HDD And SSD Is called storage for programs and Data Huge difference there dude, if you want faster speeds like 3100 read write you need to install and PCIe Express 4 drive rated for 7000 + read and write to get 3100 or better also dont run any programs while speed testing internal drives what you did slows it down, my mini M1 gets 2823 write and 2961 read my external same case as yours with the above specd drive on Tb3 on M1 mini gets 3100+ read and Write speeds ,
lol yeah I couldn’t come up with the proper term off the top of my head, these are like the Delock rubber keeper for the m2 ssd. Rubber snubber is a term used for part of the leader used while trolling for trout. 😂😂 Sorry for the wrong terms in a few different places.

i never use those dumb thermo pads and my temps stay really cool thermo pads amplify heat
@@KevinMillard68 if it is a good quality thermal pad, it makes a difference, but if it is a fake, it may be warmer.

Storage. Not Memory… Storage. There is a difference.
@@RicPerrott You are correct my apologies. Thank you for the feedback.
