    When i did it, i did not have to remove the horizontal bolt that was blocked by the brake shaft. I used a wrench that has a pivoted head to access the steering motor nut from the back.

    Thank you very much...my vellfire has same knocking sound..went to workshop , i was told to change the bush..and cost around rm250...survey in shopee it cost only rm28..after watching your video then only it make sense why they asked rm250

      hahaha, its actually pretty simple but tedious. a lot of steps to do which is why workshop charge a high price to get it done.

      You can change that little plastic coupler without taking it all down, just reach up and undo just the motor unit, ease it up and off then replace coupler and pop the motor back on!......easy

    Hi there. I'm GGH20 owner from NZ. I have had same issue and replaced the bush to no avail. Still getting rattling noise coming through the steering Column. Can you advise which areas to check out next?

    • @TCsAnythingGoes
      @TCsAnythingGoes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, glad my videos are reaching audiences from NZ as well.
      For such rattling noise, you might want to check the following:
      - inner and outer tie rods
      - steering column
      - steering rack

    Do we need to disconnect the battery first??

    • @TCsAnythingGoes
      @TCsAnythingGoes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Its always a good practice to disconnect the battery but in this DIY (and like most of my DIYs), I did not disconnect the battery.
      However, if you are still using the original japan player, do not disconnect the battery else you will lock your player.

    Hi, I brought my car to a workshop to change out the bushing. The clunking noise when driving over humps is gone. However I’ve notice that when I do a full turn, sometime there’s a knocking sound right before the steering locks. Any idea what would be the causes?

    • @TCsAnythingGoes
      @TCsAnythingGoes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most likely the mechanic did not tighten the power steering motor mount tight enough. Try to turn it slowly and see if you can feel extra resistance right before the knocking sound.

    • @leeeejea
      @leeeejea ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TCsAnythingGoes you might be right. Have some good listen to it this few days. It does sounds like sth is not tighten/metal knocking coming behind the steering instead of outside of the cabin. As for the extra resistance, it might be present? I don't get much feels of that. By the way, the knocking sound usually appear then I do a full right turn when leaving the house in the morning and another knock sound at middle turn when I reposition the car.

    • @TCsAnythingGoes
      @TCsAnythingGoes  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@leeeejea Here is what you can do,
      start your car, go under the driver side, there a shaft (you will see it turn as you turn your steering). Hold it lightly and turn your steering to the furthest right. When you hear the knocking sound, does the shaft vibrate together? If it does, then its most likely the mechanic did not tighten the motor mount (since he has to remove it to change the bush)

    Good Job 👍, I wonder if this was the root cause of your old steering rack main issue (sometimes soft, other times hard), when I asked you if you did troubleshooting I was thinking about this one you changed in this video and motor, sensors, etc. under the steering wheel.

    • @TCsAnythingGoes
      @TCsAnythingGoes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. The sometimes soft sometimes hard issue was resolved after changing the steering rack. The motor bush was causing the steering clunk when turning left and right.
      Now the only issue i have is the steering rack installed was faulty ( not reconditioned properly ) which is causing a klunk sound when turning left and right ( sort of a spring kind of clunk, which is different from the klunking of a worn motor bush ) and severe rattling on uneven road.

    • @MazinJabarin
      @MazinJabarin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TCsAnythingGoes lift up the car on jack stands (SWITCH ON, ENGINE OFF) and ask someone to turn the steering wheel while you listen down where is the sound cumming from, most properly you are right but it is better to double check and be 100% sure.

      Does the proton lancer has a similar bushing for the electric power steering

    • @TCsAnythingGoes
      @TCsAnythingGoes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anthonyxforce6325 the proton definitely does not have that bushing cause its power steering is running on fluid.
      I know some lancers are using electric power steering but unsure as the designed is different from the toyota (the motor is attached to the rack and pinion directly whereas toyota has the motor attached to the steering shaft)

      Run a car with a broken steering motor bushing? It will make a lot of noise when you are turning and on uneven road.

    I have avalon 2015 and i have rattling noise when going over bumpy road.... could this be an issue ... i hope you reply

    • @TCsAnythingGoes
      @TCsAnythingGoes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Rattling noise could be caused by a lot of factors:
      - worn lower arm
      - Worn steering rack bush
      - worn suspension parts
      - brake caliper pin dry ( just needs to re-grease the caliper pin)
      - worn inner/outer tie rods
      - steering motor bush (if you have electric power steering)
      - some stuff under the car seats (yes...... this had happened)
      What I can suggest is take a mallet and give these things a tap to see which is loose.

    • @ceem9924
      @ceem9924 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the rattle is coming "inside" the cabin and near the steering wheel or right underneath it, it is this problem. If it's coming from outside there's many things that could be wrong, check sway bar links and bushings, struts, ball joints, etc. The bushings on toyotas go out before their links

    • @snipergxs9852
      @snipergxs9852 ปีที่แล้ว

      I figured out and got it fixed .... the sound was coming from inside the electric motor of a steering wheel. The damper inside the electric motor got broken completely and changed it. Now the sound is gone
