      it's amazing for the Jedi when they get into small-scale fighting which to be fair is usually what they did because they were basically just space cops but when a real war broke out it's not suited to take you fire from multiple enemies

      @@thegeneralofsound That would literally make no sense to have missles and not use them. But no, original TIE Fighters just had the two lasers below the cockpit. In the new Squadrons game and maybe some other games they have the capability but that's a gameplay mechanic for balancing in multiplayer games. In the old PC game TIE Fighter (yes it's not canon anymore) but they were going for a space sim in that, the TIE Fighters just had lasers. Other TIE variants that had lasers moved to the "wing" tips like the Interceptor, Avenger and Defender the laser ports under the cockpit were converted to missle launchers.

      Yeah Ties were freakishly agile and tiny with a mean bite, but they were fragile. But this also meant that they were incredibly hard to hit. I think i remember reading about how a Tie fighter could make a straffing run on a cruiser before their gunners on the point-defence cannons could do anything. Makes you realize how much the pilots attacking the Falcon in ANH were holding back in order to allow the Falcon to escape. Poor imp pilots.

    Something you forgot is that there's actually 2 variants: the original Delta 7 and the Delta 7B. The 7B had twice the number of laser cannons, an actual astromech socket in the center, and a bigger hull with small S-foils. Anakin used a 7B during the Clone Wars instead of the original 7 that Obi Wan had in Episode 2.

    • @klaykid117
      @klaykid117 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Also fun fact it was based off of Hasbro toy the Hasbro toy can be pulled apart into a little Starfighter that resembles the one from episode 3. it makes sense for the astromech slot to be in the middle instead of off-center but it seems to only work with round-headed astromechs a cone-headed one like the one that had a bad motivator in A New Hope completely blocks the front view of the pilot

    With these points in mind I'd say this is a great example of a civilian design being ill suited for the war it found itself in, and potentially the arrogance of the Jedi at the time. The Republic and the Jedi were not ready for a war and their gear shows it.

    There were a number of far more suitable integrated Hyperdrive and Shield equipped Snubfighters that existed before the Clone Wars. They also included better weapons (including launchers) and usually a full astromech.
    The Naboo N1 Starfighter ticked all the boxes, and it was elegant as well.
    The Head Hunter could be modified with aftermarket work to be a proto X-Wing with Hyperdrive and a mech.
    There were also a few other lesser known ships - the Jedi probably wouldn't use a Mandalorian design… but the possiblity is there.
    They also had the advantage that they didn't scream _"Jedi"_ when the pilot was doing clandestine investigation, although the option was there to give it a distinctive Judicial paint job.
    But really the best option for a Jedi would be to use basically the same sort of ship as a loner Bounty Hunter: a small gunship, long range shuttle modified for combat, or a very light Freighter (Corellian of course) that's been hotted up like a smuggler ship.
    As for maneuverability, a Jedi couldn't get a performance edge from the Millennium Falcon??
    Perhaps there's smaller version, the Millennium Sparrowhawk or Centurion Kestrel?

    • @corruptangel6793
      @corruptangel6793 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Most Jedi didn't travel the galaxy for any extended piriod of time. Most of them lived at the temple and were given the occasional mission to some Republic world where they'd then fly over to said location, settle some dispute, then fly right back. So having freighters or shuttles weren't usually necessary. The delta-7 was, maybe not perfect, but very practical for that kind of quick trip while also giving them some combat abilties for dealing with pirates, mercs or other space thugs they might run into while on mission. Hell, most of the time they'd just charter a Republic diplomatic shuttle like what Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan did at the begining of TPM.
      The only thing that I'd consider an issue for it's intended purpose would be the lack of built-in hyperdrive. Even the guns were enough to destroy their targets (enemy starfighters i mean) with one or two shots. And the Jedi rarely missed. Launchers aren't really needed when you have superhuman reflexes, precognition, a fighter that can literally fly circles around almost all your enemies, and, most importantly, your enemies don't have health bars like in Squadrons or Battlefront. I already brought this up in another thread but, 6 or so Jedi using their Delta-7s were able to hold their own against a Lukerhulk battleship and it's 1,200 droid starfighters with only 1 or 2 casulties.

To my knowledge, that's what the astromech was supposed to help with when not programming the hyperdrive. Beyond helping pilot like I already mentioned, the astromech helped reroute power and oversaw the communications and sensors so the Jedi could focus on piloting. This allowed the Jedi to push the Delta's agility and limited combat abilties to the limit. In the Jedi Starfighter video game Adi Gallia was able to use the Force to enhance the functionality of her Delta-7. Abilities such as "Force Shield" can project a protective bubble around the fighter that can absorb energy far better than the Shields on the Fighter itself (Obi-Wan Kenobi had to have used this ability as his Delta-7 took repeated hits from the Slave 1 while only suffering damage from a direct hit that would ordinarily shred much larger fighters). The Jedi pilot can also slow down time relative to the Starfighter increasing the rate of fire and accuracy of the Laser Cannons exponentially. A Light side version of Force Lightning can also be used to short circuit Enemy fighters. And finally Force Shockwave is essentially identical to a Seismic Charge. These are legends and most importantly game mechanics so they are probably not applicable to discussions about the Delta-7. However it would explain why the Jedi would consider it even marginally effective while average pilots would consider flying it to be suicidal.

After that is flies like a dream even scaled up to a large scale passenger jet in game. It just has to have canards blended into the nose. I really wonder if this could be a workable rc plane or real civilian personal jet. Boy would it be a fun ride.

    The Delta 7 is like piloting a P-51 Mustang in a time period where the F-4 Phantom 2 and the Mig-21 are a standar airship. I still really like the starship and it's one of my favorites alongside the A-wing and X-wing

    During peace times the Aethersprite was probably the best ship for the Jedi. When most issues were down to pirates/criminal gangs using retrofitted junk ships (it's not like they could just make military grade star-fighters appear from thin air), the Aethersprite was superb: The light armaments allowed for disabling pirate ships without destroying them, and the maneuverability could pretty much let the Jedi fly circles around pirates. Think about it: If the Jedi has been telling you to surrender, and submit to arrest, and has been dodging everything you throw at them for the past 10 minutes with seeming supernaturally minimal effort, all while not showing a single sign of distress, a wise pirate would strongly start to consider surrendering, because the Jedi has already shown what they are capable of even without firing a single shot when they well could have been firing at you.
    It was also very easy to identify. This pretty much announcing the presence of Jedi, to anyone in the area and potentially with that fact alone causing a de-escalation, and stand down to occur.
    For peacekeepers in a time of peace: The ship was pretty spot on. The low amount of air/fuel it could hold, and the hyper ring reliance could be down to tech limitations, but also from data showing that most missions where Jedi were needed to back up the local law enforcement did not take too long to sort out.
    During war? Not so much.

      In the old canon, before even TCW and back when the Clone Wars multi-media project was a thing, it took the Republic 4 months to build starfighters for the clones. That's how unprepared the Republic was for war. In those 4 months, the Jedi alone, armed with their Delta-7s, were the only ones combating the Seperatist fighters in space.
      During the battle of Kamino, the orbital defence force taking on the lone Seperatist lukerhulk battleship consisted of a mere 8 Jedi pilots, yet they held their own with only 1 or 2 casualties. Even after Anakin and Obi-Wan got shot down and had to fight groundside for the rest of the battle. This means that 6 Jedi in Delta-7s were capable of contending with 1,200 droid starfighters. Yes doid starfighters were not very agile and certainly weren't very smart, but make no mistake, Jedi aces were no pushovers in their Delta-7s.

    The size of the vehicle was a flaw. When it was replaced by the Eta-2 Actis Interceptor, it was found that Venator-class Star Destroyers could carry hundreds of Etas compared to a couple dozen Aethersprites because Etas were so small and compact compared to their forebears.

    Now that you mention it, maybe the astromech should have been mounted on the hyperspace ring. Room for a full mech, it could operate as a com relay from orbit, it could move/hide the ring if danger lurked, plus that would leave a little room and weight savings that could either be used for sensors to replace the mech on the fighter or more room for supplies and weapons.

    Can you please do a video about how artificial gravity on ships in Star Wars works? Like how the heck can people walk while a ship is in zero gravity environments? And what about inconsistencies like when Grievous's ship was falling apart over Coruscant and the direction of gravity seemed to change when the ship tilted... If the gravity on the ship was artificially generated, why would it shift like that?

  • @josiahjoedeman6544
    @josiahjoedeman6544 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you're going to have a droid as a (semi) permanent part of the ship, why not just load the droid software directly into the ship and remove the head ? 1: it balances and saves weight, 2: it improves visibility where the head was, 3: it balances and improves aerodynamic flow for atmospheric flight, and improves visual appearance, and 4: that's one less interface (droid-ship) to have to make things work. When the droid is literally part of the ship instead of just attached to it, commands can be executed even more quickly.
    Cons: 1: you lose the droid's utility arms, but you really only had those in one spot anyway, so not much of a loss, and 2: your droid ship could technically decide to take over, but your droid-head could also do that, so no difference there.

    It really isn't that flawed. The Delta-7 Aethersprite was designed for patrol duties and starfighter dogfighting, essentially an early-bird version of the TIE Interceptor. With that in mind, Jedi Starfighters did pretty well, all things considered. The only thing they were missing were A) A hyperdrive, which many starfighters at the time lacked, and B) heavy anti-capital ship weapons, which isn't their job to tackle, since you leave that kind of shit to the bombers and the Acclamator-class gunships and Victory-class Star Destroyers.

    I don't think g-forces was much of a limit on starfighters. It seems their inertial compensators are so good that they can and do out-maneuver missiles.

    • @VegetaLF7
      @VegetaLF7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This. Intertial dampeners made it so you could pull insanely tight turns that would cause a real world pilot to black out quickly, and do it with little to no physical effects to the pilot. Fun fact for you, in the Legends X-Wing series, Wedge reflects on how it was Porkins' tendency to ramp up the dampeners to 100% nullification that got him killed. According to that series, most experienced fighter pilots keep their dampeners high but not at max, allowing for a minuscule amount of g-forces to get through. This lets the pilot still feel how his or her craft is moving. Porkins kept his dampeners at 100%, blocking all g-forces for his own comfort. As a result he couldn't feel that his X-Wing wasn't pulling out of the dive towards the Death Star fast enough, ending up slamming into the deck because of it.

    • @jonathansullivan6706
      @jonathansullivan6706 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, to an extent. While inertial dampeners can nullify issues with tight maneuvers, a missile will still have an obscenely high thrust to mass ratio when compared to even the most nimble interceptor.
