Fred, you and Jason did a fantastic live stream. This past year has been extremely difficult. What you did to support your family in these unpredictable times is commendable. I was on lay-off for a few months and had the same thoughts as you. I was willing to do whatever I needed to keep food on the table. Absolutely commendable. Thank you and Jason for a wonderful show. Cheers to both of you!
This was the so much fun getting to know both of you both more as well as the whiskey talk. Fred, thank you for being open and sharing your story. Thank you for your service and all you do for this whiskey community. This should definitely be a regular collaboration !! Thanks Jason as well for making this happen. You make such a difference in so many lives!!
As the co-founder of the Great Lakes Whiskey Club, getting a shoutout from you is amazing! We have distilleries producing great products, we just get lucky enough to find those amazing barrels!
As a two-month-old bourbon/whiskey enthusiast, these two podcasts from a few years ago have been instrumental in helping me navigate the very insane world of bourbon hunting. It's hard to know what to buy and for what price to buy it at, but these two videos (overrated and underrated) have been a HUGE Help. Shout to Fred & Jason. Much love ❤️ from a nube...with a pretty deecent collection so far 😂. Nastrobia fellas!! Polish but vodka sucks!!!
Really enjoyed what I was able to attend! You guys play off of each other very well! And I loved hearing Fred get real about his PTSD and his work with mindfulness. That really means something to me, as I have dealt with PTSD for a long time and have been working on mindfulness techniques to improve my quality of life. People can never be sure what others are dealing with. I think it's really important to talk about mental health, especially in the bourbon community because alcohol can unfortunately become a crutch for some. We have to support each other and enjoy whisky the way it way meant to be enjoyed: with fraternity and friendship. Cheers Jason and Fred! Here's to many more streams.
Fred, thank you for your openness about your life experiences. I love that you talk about mindfulness here. As a wellness educator who focuses a lot on substance use, I always look for more ways to help students view their drinking experience differently. Understanding that drinking is about an experience that can engage multiple senses might be a helpful way to approach the conversation with some of them. Keep up the great work.
Loved the podcast- you and Fred M are my two favorites. Never get a new bottle without checking you two to see your options on it! When you both agree it seals the deal for me! Love yours and Fred’s show. Hope you guys collaborate more..great Chemistry....
Jason & Fred: AWESOME show and conversation. Picking overrated has to be hard as there's good bourbons within BUT they are often pushed to insane pricing. You both work incredibly well together: easygoing, funny, knowledgeable, with plenty to agree and disagree upon. I dig that you're pondering doing more of these....to quote Casablanca, "I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship". To all the regulars on the live chat: y'all are a great, welcoming, fun group. Lots of support and interaction within. Super fun to enjoy a virtual glass or two with y'all.
Super cool collaboration! Pulling out a Whistle Pig for the Overrated list in front of Fred causing him to cover Dave’s photo......gangster 😎 but shows your honesty and authenticity. 🥃
You two guys teach me a lot about Bourbon. I didn't start drinking bourbon till 2020. Im new and fresh. Russell's single barrell is ny favorite so far.
Such a cool collaboration!! Loved it!! I won a lottery to buy a bottle of Lot B.. so I did, just to get it, $120... and it is so meeeh. Nothing at all interesting about it, just don’t ever understand all the VW hype.
Great video, guys! You're both fantastic ambassadors for this hobby and two people I look up to as far as your ethos. Looks like you had fun doing this, so I'm hoping there are more collab episodes to come. Cheers!
I also don't like the 1910. I love just about everything else OF does. I LOVE the 1920, OF100 is my budget daily, I also LOVE the 1915 mix, and I enjoy the 1870 and 1897... I just can't get behind the 1910 - it falls completely flat for me. You're not alone Fred.
Dont tell tales, you know Russell's 10 year isnt good. Actually, everyone just leave it on the shelf! I'll take one for the team and drink it myself and suffer the um...consequences.
Missed this live but the nice thing about replay is I can run it at 1.25x! Have to disagree with you on the Whistle Pig. Sure the Boss Hog is overpriced but I think the 10 yr old at ~$70 is reasonably priced for a really high rye rye. Anything that costs over $100 is overpriced since there are so many great whiskies for less. But everyone has their own comfort point. Had some Talisker 57 degree that we drank at my uncle's celebration of life. He did two tours of duty in 'nam flying Thunderbirds and was the best sailor I ever knew.
Nice man! The 10 year is the one whistlepig I buy. As you saw. I do enjoy it. The other expressions are what bug me. Lol. The 10 year single barrels are delicious too.
Ma lady picked me up a bottle of Angels Envy and after enjoying some Redbreast as well, I want to get into bourbon. Having the cabinet stocked with atleast 10 bottles kf bourbon would be ideal. Nothing far over 100 bucks a bottle
Love your channel and content overall. Any chance of adding time stamps on these longer videos whenever you upload them? Like when you switch to a different bourbon or topic ect.
Regarding that Jefferson's Ocean bourbon, does the barrel hauling ship need to stay in US territorial waters in order to maintain the bourbon name? Since bourbon can't be produced outside of the US and be called bourbon.
My picks for most overrated/overpriced: Angel's Envy, Blanton's, Old Forester Birthday Bourbon (I love the 1920 but the Birthday series has been overpriced and underwhelming), Duke Founder's Reserve, Jefferson's Ocean, Weller, Buffalo Trace, Elmer T. Lee, Orphan Barrel, Whistlepig, and Widow Jane
Would love to hear you both discuss what tends to be my go-to style of bourbon, Bottled in Bond. Is it still necessary? Why is it good to have distilleries producing this type of bourbon still? What does BiB bring to the table that other styles don't? With so many BiB brands out there, along with many extra-aged options, it could offer a lot to discuss.
I think BIB is more necessary than ever. It's a government guarantee of transparency. Let's face it, not much you can trust on a whiskey label, but BIB you can take to the bank.
“Were they wearing skinny jeans?” Hahaha!! And then Matt from ADHDs comment. Hahaha!!! I’m dead. This was a great video. Wish I saw it live. Cheers Jason.
Hey great job with the video and bringing Mr. Minnick aboard (don’t let his reputation walk all over you...we respect your palate and your excitement with different bottles)...but...in my opinion it’s kinda hypocritical to dog the consumers about price/value increases when it’s reviewers, like yourself, that drive up demand. It’s simple macroeconomics and you’re a contributing player to the game. Keep up the reviews! I’m always looking forward to your latest content!
I agree to a point. Yes. When we try a great bourbon and get excited about it we drive up demand. But we aren't the ones saying to flippers and store owners to make a bottle 3x the msrp. Unfortunately they do that on there own based on the market and what people are willing to spend. I have to buy bottles more expensive than I want but there are also clear clear bourbons that aren't worth nearly the prices people are asking. And that's what we wanted to highlight. Will folks still buy them?? Yup. But I won't.
@@TheMashandDrum I'm stupid. You're smart. I was wrong. You were right. You're the best. I'm the worst. You're very good looking. I'm not very attractive. Ha! I’m just flattered that you responded!
I love that you guys consider each other “equally important “as it pertains to a bourbons community. And Fred we are happy to have helped to keep you going online. Your sincerity shines through as well as Jason. I watched a lot of other bourbon channels myself and I think it’s very cool of you guys. Thank you very much and thank you for your service Fred, and any other veteran who happens to watch this. The end portion brought a tear to my eyes we love you man…Alot
I think in the conversation about whiskey being overrated, it’s a matter of popularity vs quality. You can’t argue that Jack, Jim beam, Evan Williams and bulleit in their most accessible and affordable form, are sharp yet still diluted, lacking flavor, and causing headaches for people in their early twenties across the globe.
This is Matt and It's like I always say, keep you head in the clouds, but your mind... on........... Saying things.... That amuse Fred Minnick... because trains aren't really that cool, even when you fill them with bourbon.. ... ..... Even when it's bad because nobody is gonna drink it.
Jason.... Jason.... Jason!!!.... You are doing exactly what should have seen done for those people that just buy because if the name or high price RC6 MM last year is by far still better than any happy or buffalo trace product, maybe The rare Eagle rare 17 year old .i had done several blimd taisting with few of my bourbon clubs.RC6 MM won every time .i have one bottle left and will pop in 10 years, Cheers my brothers, Ty and PS this video will go down in history as the most honest bourbon Human on the planet 🌝 Your Awesome 2 Mr Minnick You hit it on the nose 👃. Good all days just 10 years ago lol when you where able to get all the antique collection and give it away while enjoying it with friends and a good cigars. One more thing. Is it true because of the demand most distiller like BT order grains from other countries like China? FYI!! That's why I try just to drink peerless bourbon. They grow there own grains. Ty
Florida Living!!!! I'm with you Jason is fantastic. Big fan. Obs... So, for the other countries, yes, they do. In Bourbon Curious, I cite the countries they buy from that I could validate, albeit China wasn't on that list. The acquisition of grain is easily tracked. With the right amount of digging, I could find out.
That was fun. Jason, thanks for having me on. Here's to more Mash & Minnick, Cheers!

saw a Weller 12 on shelf a few months back in SC got all excited until guy behind counter said $250. Got My Willett Rye 4 year in TN for $59
I revisit this conversation once every six months. If only for “F*ck your train”. 😂💀😂💀
Watching this the day after I picked up Rip 10 yr, but for $110. Hope I won’t be too disappointed.
At least you got it for retail. Lol.
