If you are genuine looking for his ability, try his movies that doesn't often masala, but pure class of methodical acting.
You guys were judging based on just a teaser and some wikipedia notes. Its like watching a clint eastwood movie from this decade and judging his style as a cocky action star.
"Shall we start?" to be be precise. Btw you didn't watch a teaser. This was only an announcement of the finalised film title and that the movie shooting has begun! This a usual advertising practice even before the film shoots begin to garner hype for the movie from the very first day of shoot.

I think it’s symbolic of having a feast. I think they are trying to say this movie is going to be like a feast for action. Before the shot of them eating, Kamal asks “shall we begin?” looks into camera as if asking us the audience. Then he builds up the tension by showing them enjoying the feast before Kamal grabs and throws the ax. In the beginning, he starts off with the plates for the feasts and the cooker going off. Then he starts hiding the guns. Again referring to the feast. Then we go the scene I already talked about kamal’s question and eating.
The film just began shooting. It's a concept teaser and very symbolic (hints at the Last supper). Maybe stop undermining the films and try... understanding them?
