Looking back on this review and figure, it really makes me wish Takara would go back and a Masterpiece Rodimus that's just Rodimus. They made a just-Hot Rod (though they called him "Hot Rodimus" for some strange reason LOL), so there's no reason to suspect that they couldn't make a just-Rodimus Prime. This thing suffered from so many issues it wasn't even funny. The transformations weren't solid at all and the transformation into the Space Winnebago is especially cringe-worthy. It seemed like there was nothing to this guy in the way of sturdy connections in any of his modes. It breaks my heart, too, because, of all the characters I wanted to see get the Masterpiece treatment, Rodimus Prime was second in line on that list.
@Xephon0930 No, because I haven't put him back in that mode since the review. It made the smallest mark on the spoiler and I wasn't that upset about it to take sandpaper to it.
I only wanted this figure for hotrod anyway so i'll wait until the toys'r'us release and put him next to my MP Grimlock (which I LOVE), Hotrod and Superion were my 2 favourite G1 toys as a kid. Great review Emgo as always : )

The Hot Rod bits are actually wonderful, I just found myself cringing every time it got to the Rodimus bits. If they had just made the figure "Masterpiece Hot Rod" Instead of shoving Hot Rod and Rodimus in the same figure, it probably wouldn't have suffered as many qc issues and just been better in general.

I guarantee that there was a meeting called by the production and customer service divisions with the design division and the meeting minutes included the phrase "savage beating".
Its not just about knowing how to transform this figure, as pieces break off even if you are gentle with it and know what you are doing. Its also not about figures broken on arrival. Its about QC and design being poor that the figure has issues in many cases. Mine has both foot springs having problems, and thats not something that was broken when it arrived, or something that I could avoid no matter how careful I was. I believe I have the U.S. version of you're Hot Rodimus Emgo. Mine has a few little differences in detail. But when I transform him into his hot rod vehicle mode I always have a little trouble with folding his hands under his side panels.
I have the Hasbro version and to be honest it's actually good quality the fragile parts are reinforced hardly any loose joints seems very stable sure the colours are more like the g1 toy but I'm happy with it I still think takara should never have put 4 forms into a single robot if they just did rodimus prime on his own as a figure that would be cool then do a seperate figure as hot rod but we do have a hotrod mp now still I'd like to see an official rodimus prime 3.0 figure would be great
Funny people criticize this figure with all its flaws still best representation of the character years ahead of its time. Cartoon accurate. Sure transformation is not the best and there are issues But some have been corrected with the recent reissue
I got a Predaking set with problems the day it came out still waiting for some concrete info from Robotkingdom. They did respond by saying they will look into it and talk with their supervisors but that's over a week ago. Original complaint i sent in at the end of January give or take a few days. After the breakage on this set i'm scared of having problems with MP Roddy, although it looks superb.

I believe, after this video and your classics video, I prefer the classics much more. I just wonder if the classics will fit with a voyager size collection. I am thinking of buying classics with the Voyager armor off of Ebay.
Some of these toys literally feel like their defining science how they transform so well. Prefer this MP version much more over the newer Rodimus Unicronus one. Nice review
any of my tabs that give me problems I put a dab of super glue around one edge of the male tab, tab it in and IMMEDIATELY untab it. let the glue dry for 30 minutes. after that they tab in fine. On the more spacious tabs like your panel from hell there, I do one side, let dry and test, then another, then another until it has a "collar".
A shame that the initial release of Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime turned out to be one of the less solid entries in the MP line; makes me wonder how Masterpiece Bumblebee and Masterpiece Star Saber might turn out.

If Hasbro ever went out on a limb to release a web exclusive release of just the trailer to add to the Toys R Us release, I'd get it in a heartbeat. I'd really like to know if you got the TRU version, because the little targetmaster figure they made for it is a thing of BEAUTY. A fiddly thing of beauty to transform--just like his mentor--but a thing of BEAUTY nonetheless.
Personally, if I had the money available, I'd buy it ASAP! Besides, they should have continued off from The Last Knight movie instead of, Rise of the Beast... With that movie, they just killed the series with that movie.
This is the most ridiculous transformation I've ever seen. Why didn't they just build it to turn into the car that just fits the trailer rather than go through all that rigmarole? Oh, it's because it's supposed to be a 2-in-one...to have Hot Rod and Rodimus at the same time. Bah! Separate them. I was getting such anxiety watching you do that. I just got a tyrant Galvatron, and it took me at least an hour to get him from robot to cannon. I just said to myself that he will never see his robot form again because I refuse to go through that again. It was so frustrating and not fun. I was watching your video and reversing it as you did cannon to robot, and I was going the other way. Thanks, by the way for your video on that.
Vehicle mode looks better than Kingdom Rodi and the face swap is cool, but in every other respect I have to say this loses out to the mainline version. To be fair, that is a product of almost another decade of toy design, but it's still a somewhat shocking comparison.
I absolutely hate the transformation of this figure. I just bought the reissued one and followed this video to transform it and that was the WORST transformation experience I have ever had. Things don't click into place, you keep on thinking something is going to break, and the tabs don't go in properly. I feel like I'm going to break it but I had to transform it one time just to see it in vehicle mode. It definitely looks amazing in both vehicle and robot mode. But for the price, the transformation should have been better thought out. Once I transform it back into robot mode I will never transform it again. Absolutely hate the transformation so thankfully it does at least look beautiful and posable.
Wow, way too finicky and possibility for breakage to justify the price. Seeing him now, and especially his overall size, as in not even close to being in scale with Prime and Megatron, is a real let down. I wouldn't pay more then $50.00 for him to tell you the truth. If it's masterpiece, you'd expect it to be a "Masterpiece".

i mean, that's his name, hot-rodimus. I think hot rod may just be a shortened name man. the prime at the end specifies that he became a prime.

All transformers change in less than five seconds...it took you three (!?) days.Rodimus Prime would have been impounded by that time.
