Not sure if I missed you mentioning it but what about Italian convoys supplying East African garrisons? Did they go past Dakar or were Italian Forces in Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia SOL. I ask because in Hearts of Iron 4 I stick destroyers and old cruisers to convoy raid between Africa and South America.

They're not getting out of the Mediterranean... prior to declaring war they used Suez, after declaration of war, well Gibraltar is the other end... just no getting out for them... it's why the retaking of east Africa is so straightforward really, they have nothing

@@DrAlexClarke That makes sense with all the RN subs and surface units.

Thought provoking. Now we don't just get RN history and ships but the politics of the Free French as well.
Another area I hadn't really ever considered

The thing I am always stressing to my students is context... war doesn't happen in a vacum, strategy doesn't come from nowhere and equipment doesn't just suddenly appear... so naturally that is what this channel will also start to include a lot of... because I think it matters and part 1 really helps understand part 2 and together they lay the ground work for the live. thanks for commenting.

@@DrAlexClarke You and Drach are doing for the WW2 navy what Cheiftan has done for tanks. Getting past simplistic "this beats that" by adding the context you mentioned above.

Sitting drinking a mug of tea, watching the Doctor. I always press like first and have never had cause to 'unlike' one. A lot of people don't bother across all channels.
