Have sn AR 220 in Ivory - from 2015, Super58 ( the china version ) and Split Switches - sounds Amazing. There is a clip with the '59 Les Paul Burst for 10k bucks - i comment it with " my AR sounds same " and someone answered: "Super 58" ? 😊 I heard about the ( cheaper ) China Version of this Pick Ups in the Reissues, but my are not bad.
Thanks for sharing, I can imagine your AR does a great job, and that ivory/gold looks lovely! You'd be lucky to get even the tuning pegs off a '59 burst for that 10k you mention, though. 😄 Yes, there's so much myth about production country, for example. Must be assessed per case, as producers tend to build simpler constructions in cheaper countries so you get apples compared to pears. I read somewhere, true or not, that the Super 58s are made to the same specs wherever produced (though I think I also heard about notable construction variety through the years). Then the compliance to those specs could vary of course, but that should make a smaller difference. Put them to A/B testing and most probably couldn't distinguish them even in ref headphones, let alone in a mix. Only trouble ... no chance in hell that logic could shake my Japanese golden era fetish. 😆
The difference in sound might be more down to different pick up distance relative to the bridge (specially noticable with the neck pick ups... you don't have to measure, you can see the difference) The 2619 will sound a bit warmer/rounder because of the longer distance. The bridge distance is almost perfectly the same and will sound similar with both P.U.'s in full HB mode If you move P.U.'s you get different results. It depends on if the P.U. sits above a node or not. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/String_harmonic It's usually not the P.U. itself what makes or breaks a guitar, but the placement of the P.U.
Thank you for sharing it’s a beautiful comparison. Of course the older one sounds better. I have a 1976 and has the baseball bat neck transition as rare as well. It’s the 2619 model I think definitely the best of all the models the most versatile 15 selectable tones at your fingertips one of the greatest guitars ever made. Thanks again for sharing
What I like about the new AR is how evenly it responds across the strings. Talking here about the volume but also the sonic/harmonic content . Now that's one of those qualities that pretty much none of the reviewers ever mention when testing a guitars. The whole tonewood debate is circling around topics of bright and dark sound, while the tonewood is mainly about even response across different frequencies. Tusen Takk Alexander for this review either way, you helped me with making a quick decision about buying the 2619 , 2015 version - 50% of retail price
I owned this very guitar back in the day. I wasnt a very good player at the time. The thing I remember most about it was that it was very neck heavy which was annoying. Also, after quite a short time the gold plate looked terrible and had simply corroded away as did the top of the bridge. Ultimately the hight adjuster nut at the top of the bridge seized up. Beautiful to look at but not practical as a gigging guitar.
That’s cool, Lars? Not the typical guitar, nor pickups I guess, for black metal, are they? What’s your plan? Well, with a Boss HM-2 pedal in the loop you couldn’t go wrong in any case, right? :-)
@@alexanderkristofersson2043 i dont tend to use pedals but lower output pickups actually sound good for big chords that are used in 90s black metal, the biggest black metal band mayhem also used a les paul
Hej, Rikard! Responding in English not to exclude the world outside. ;-) Yes, I sold the 2619 yesterday, actually. Had it out only on Swedish ad site Blocket, for practical reasons, and after having it there for a while there was a sudden burst of interest when I lowered the price from 8900 SEK to 7900 SEK (€780). That is fairly low for that guitar, I would say … probably the non-original bridge pickup dragged down interest a bit. Might have got more if I had waited, or tried internationally, but I was happy to finalise it smoothly and see it end up with a great new owner knowing precisely what he liked about it. What are you thinking of getting instead of your 2618? (Keep writing in Swedish if you prefer ... this is just me.)
@@alexanderkristofersson2043 Well I was thinking of saving up for an older Stratocaster. Cool, Sergio! I am guessing you are aware that there have been a number of follow-ups at different price points, built in different countries. We can love the magic of those old originals, but if the aim is “just” to get a good guitar in the style, there are reasonably good opportunities out there. 1st of all I had the Ibanez AR320 I love it I think it's a great sounding guitar Very easy playing to music guitarist very level in weight and will do the job of any top end Gibson Epiphone guitar, But if you really don't know anything about the guitars you shouldn't be doing a video on them that was a very poor video that I've seen a lot of stoppage of the film a lot of stuttering basically basically how do you demonstrate something that if you're not really sure what you have
Dear Terrance, the sentence you refer to, with my caveat about my expertise level, actually continues with a “... but ...” and an explanation that should clearly answer your question. You may want to recapitulate that, at 1:35. However, you are under no obligation to rewatch this video, which I am sorry you are finding very poor. I take joy in the fact that it has been broadly watched and liked in the community of Japanese-vintage-guitar lovers, despite my observation of your -1. I am glad you are satisfied with your AR320, seemingly a Chinese ca 2013 production which on paper should not quite be up there with the early 80’s Japanese originals in build quality. However, with its tri-sound-wired Super 58s, I would expect it to be a great guitar, and I would welcome you to demo it in a recording similar to mine, or preferably better, of course.

I have a feeling ill be able to make some sweet black metal on it. I got a AR300
In 1981 I bought the Cherry Sunburst with Super 58's.....my son now drives it to new heights!
Lovely! So imagine then what his son or daughter will sound like in turn! 😃
I had an early eighties. Trade it. Regrets. Bought one today. Happy again. Awesome guitar! Nothing like it.
Always loved this model!
Super 58s are my favorite humbuckers. Tons of presence and character.
I love those Super 58 pickups. The Super 80a are way too hot and sound muddy by comparison. This is a great demo.
