I saved up and bought a black Ibanez Artist in 1981. I loved that guitar, but being a daft teenager I sold it to buy a motorcycle. Fast forward 31 years, I was looking up the classified ads and saw a black Ibanez artist for sale. Yep it was my old guitar and was in mint, hardly used condition, and I'm sitting here looking at it as I type and watch you play.
Thats great to hear nice one i have a ar720 ibanez beautiful I done the same sold my 1973 les paul gold top really regret it never come across it again enjoy your ibanez
Boy do l understand. I have a beautiful ‘82 Ibanez AR 305. As a similarly daft teenager l sold my gorgeous TAMA TG 80 to an ex, and unbelievably got it back after it had been sitting in the back room of an interstate pawn shop for 30 years. I still can’t believe it each day that l wake up and see it in its stand.
Back in 1978 I sold my 2 year old Les Paul Deluxe and purchased the Ash version of this Ibanez Artist. I couldn't have been happier at the time. I still have a photo of that Ibanez, writing on that Polaroid indicates the guitar was purchased in February of 1978 at a cost of $506 w/OHSC. Wish I'd have kept that old Ibanez Artist, wish I'd kept that old Gibson too! Thanks Eric, really appreciate your great content.
Great sounding guitar, a humbucker guitar that sounds great clean is a rare and beautiful thing! I think people obsess over dirty tones but it's cleans that separate the men from the boys!
I bought a 1979 AR-100 recently and I can’t put it down. I gave it a small truss rod tweak, put new strings on it and it absolutely rips. Gorgeous guitar and feels great. Sounds great clean and unreal with a good fuzz pedal over a tube screamer.
I have one of these that I bought in a pawn shop for something like $85 in the early 90s. It’s an awesome instrument. My uncle referred to this era of Ibanez as the “putting a boot in Gibson’s ass” era.
Your uncle sounds accurate, the 70s were the lawsuit era of guitars. Ibanez are one of the more well known since they're still around. El Maya was another brand that I suppose were hefty competition. They're not as widely known, but they sound pretty good in YT videos.
Thank you for sharing this is one of my favorite guitars. Definitely one of the most versatile guitars if not the most versatile guitar ever made especially with both switches in the 2619 form. And that baseball bat neck I don’t know that yours has that but mine does it is just beautiful to smooth transition I’ve never felt another neck like it it’s just beautiful and I do believe that’s the same factory that made Paul Reed Smith neck’s when he first came out. I might add that I have seven guitars from that factory and every one of them is wonderful oh and I have three bass from that factory and they’re wonderful too.
Very nice. I have a similar 1982 AR 305 with the same ‘cloud’ tailpiece. Antique violin (mahogany burl) finish. I just love the guitar, which is in superb condition.
1982, traded a brand new Les Paul Custom in on an AR100. Traveled and performed with it for over 30 years - then lost my mind and traded it in on a new Les Paul DC Pro; which after getting jumbo frets and locking tuners had neck dive so bad I sold it. Took me 3 years to find another good AR100. My main player is a rare red '83, with a vintage sunburst '80 as my backup. It's all over our albums. Awesome guitars. The BEST in my book. Cheers!
I have a 2016 version of this guitar the Ar 725 and I love it. I don’t have all the coil split and all the bells and whistles of the standard ones but man is it a beast guitar
Hey Eric great stuff. New to the channel and enjoying it very much. I have an 80 Artist which was/is my first electric guitar. However the Gibralter stop bar broke and I'm looking to replace it. It's very difficult to find. Keep up the great music. Cheers.
Eric, really tasty with the Robben Ford riffs, well done Sir. Only thing you're missing is a Dumble! IMHO the '68 Super Reverb is an underrated amplifier. Myself, I've got a '76 Twin Reverb I purchased when brand new, only $400 at the time!
I'm a lil suspect of the neck pickup, Super58's generally have two screws on teh bass side mount. that might just be a dimarzio "paf" in the neck. Not that that's a bad thing.
I think the guitar has a rose on it Eric because bob weir the rhythm guitar player for the grateful Dead played one of these guitars during the late 70s early 80s also probably the best rhythm guitar player everthe man has played more concerts than anyone in the world ever has
Hi guys. What about the selector switch on that area of the guitar? Does it bother your right hand when you´re using a strap and on your feet? I guess that depends on each player but your perspectives would be appreciated.
Very nice. Good demo. The modern chinese models??? Are the parts and pick ups japanese product? I know many japanese makers will re import for QC and rework.
Really great playing and great demo and insightful commenting on the guitar. Do you have experience with the super 70’s as well? If so how do they compare to the 58’s?
on eof my favorite I bought the first issue in 1977 I had everything from 1968 to present dates. Mine cost in the day around 300 bucks |I sold my 58 flying V in 1981 for 8k in Japan my les pauls and 335s tels strats loved them all but the one I really miss is my Ibanez r Artist and am looking for another with the honey burst
Guitarsenal Yeah, you’re right. That bridge pup sure looks like a Super 80. They didn’t come without covers, though. So, I’m not sure what that neck pup is suposed to be then
The standard factory pickup for the AR100 was the V2 - uncovered cream pickup. I would assume that's what's in the neck position. The bridge has the 'flying fingers' cover, so that's either a Super 70, or Super 80 pickup.
@@FuzzballSounds1 Could it be a DiMarzio? I have one of these, and both my pickups look like the neck one. When I bought it (over forty years ago!) the guy in the shop told me they were DiMarzios--it was already second-hand. But as the man says, they sound like DiMarzios. It's plausible.
those seems to be the super 80's (flying fingers) pickups they're not like Paf Pickups, those have ceramic magnets, and are brighther and high gain for the time, anyway i consider all ibanez vintage super pickups sounds better than gibsons, even todays gibson classic 57's
the super 70s pups were like a hotter PAF . the super 80s were a copy of dimarzio super distortions which are ceramic. BTW Ibanez copied all major companies guitars. in the 70s they made fantastic bolt on neck lps with lots of sustain. They sounded better than the 70s Gibsons. Ibanez original designs were the artists, musician, studio

Great player + great guitar equals great sound!!
These are wonderful guitars! I've always got an eye out for old Artist and CN series Ibanez guitars
Great sounding guitar, a humbucker guitar that sounds great clean is a rare and beautiful thing! I think people obsess over dirty tones but it's cleans that separate the men from the boys!
I don't have the impression of a good sounding guitar at all.
I bought a 1979 AR-100 recently and I can’t put it down. I gave it a small truss rod tweak, put new strings on it and it absolutely rips. Gorgeous guitar and feels great. Sounds great clean and unreal with a good fuzz pedal over a tube screamer.

Putting a boot in Gibson's ass is totally true.

@@101Volts
If you look closely at videos or pictures of Billy Gibbons in the 90s, he's using Burny Les Pauls live.
I searched for this guitar but can't find one I think it has a unique vibe I love .like a lot but more exentric
Love my '77!

Dude!!! You usually are talking guns! Glad to find this channel.
I fucking love you guys badass love the new channel just found it
I have one of these with a bad case of buckle rash and tarnish. Beautiful player. FYI it was my dads.
Very nice. I have a similar 1982 AR 305 with the same ‘cloud’ tailpiece. Antique violin (mahogany burl) finish. I just love the guitar, which is in superb condition.
Yes. Great chops and massive tone.

Keep up the great work eric. Your playing is so good. I feel like you must own 50 guitars
😗
Guitarsenal ✊🍆💦😜
I see my Musicman Stingray in the background. Nice video by the way.
It took me this long to realize Eric from moss pawn had a guitar channel...... what have i been missing my whole life.
That is a Super 80 in the bridge position and what looks like a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the neck position....
Came here to say this 👆
Great playing man! Great guitar as well!!! Thank you!
Dude! Eric. I love your other channel. I used to own a 79 Artist. All stock except tuners. Keep rocking. P.S. I'm looking for one.
Great playing on a great guitar. It sounds very good!
Beautiful instrument. ..
I have a 2016 version of this guitar the Ar 725 and I love it. I don’t have all the coil split and all the bells and whistles of the standard ones but man is it a beast guitar
I have a 78 too …Fark I love it …if only I could play it like that
Hey Eric great stuff. New to the channel and enjoying it very much. I have an 80 Artist which was/is my first electric guitar. However the Gibralter stop bar broke and I'm looking to replace it. It's very difficult to find. Keep up the great music. Cheers.
Guns and guitars! man after my heart
Cool. This is my new favorite channel.
I've owned Les Pauls, Strats, Teles, and Jaguars, but my '79 Artist was the best playing! Ironic that I look it up and run into you. Cheers, Eric! :)
I always wanted one of these i seen one in a pawn shop that sat for years, it was a lefty though.

Nice picking by the way. I bet you know who Cedil Davis is.

Me the best.
Hey Eric no shit huh my new favorite channel I'm a guitar and gun nerd too but I'm not as good as u and only have one guitt
Very nice. Good demo. The modern chinese models??? Are the parts and pick ups japanese product? I know many japanese makers will re import for QC and rework.
THAT ROSE IS SOOOOO CUTE I LOVE IT SOOO MUCH
Really great playing and great demo and insightful commenting on the guitar. Do you have experience with the super 70’s as well? If so how do they compare to the 58’s?
I LOVE Super 70s! I got a pair in my 1980 Blazer. Check out the video
Guitarsenal will do! Thank you!
too beautiful to be exist
Sounds great to me🎸🎸🎸

Tasty jams Eric! What amp are you using here your Magnatone?
1968 Fender Super Reverb
Nice guitar. It's got 'that' tone I always associate with 1960 Les Paul's. Pete.
This guitar actually has V2 pickups. Super 58s came a bit later. These sound great nonetheless!
Super 80s then? Or is the V2 a completely different pick up. I could of swore the spec sheet showed 58s but maybe I was wrong on that for sure
The Super 58s were either covered in gold or chrome, with the screws showing, like a classic Gibson humbucker, so they're definitely not Super 58s.
Woooooooo
I want one Soo bad

Super 80s sound nothing like Super Distortions. The V2 is the Ibanez version of a DiMarzio SD.
Wow dude wat r u doin there this is not a gun .. So surprised..🙃🙃😅
No.gadgets!
