I think they removed a lot of the scenes because they didn’t want to take away from creed. But the very little that we saw of the Drago’s and their struggle drew us to them. I would love more exploration of Viktor and Ivan
More Viktor and Ivan. Please. Either in Creed 3 or in their own movie taking place after the events of Creed 2. The more I thought about it, the more I saw VIktor as a kind of young Russian (Ukrainian) version of Rocky Balboa. He grew up with nothing, and all he wants is the love of family and a better life for them.. Maybe the scene Florian speaks of will make it into a deleted scenes featurette on the Blu-Ray/DVD.
Though the fact they wrote a scene like that at all gives me hope about "Creed 2" not just a bookend of "Rocky IV", but actually an origin story (or the beginnings of one) for Viktor. Also that I think it was always on the cards Adonis and Viktor would eventually become friends. Not in this movie, but in future movies.
@@ClairvoyantMeow Hopefully Viktor and Adonis will be friends in the future. It would mean even more, to me, because it would show healing between two families. Apollo and Rocky did go from enemies to friends, but their rivalry was strictly professional. Viktor spent much of Creed II paying for the sins of his father and being used as a tool. Thankfully, Ivan comes around in the end. I have heard whispers that Steven Caple Jr. may (key word, may) want a Drago film, post Creed II. If Dolph and Florian both wanted to do it, it's a story I'd love to see.
@@J_Rossi I just had a realization the fact there is this cut scene that exists of this hotel bar conversation between Adonis and Viktor, where Viktor is basically explaining his situation to Donnie (and how bad that situation is / how desperately Viktor _needs_ to win the fight) and how they came to realize they're not so different, they could always use that scene in a future film as a flashback. Maybe Adonis, perhaps seriously considering retiring and/or spending more time supporting Bianca with her music career, and he's reminiscing about that hotel bar conversation to Bianca or something. Donnie, who I imagine does respect Viktor as a real contender and simply as a decent man who had some very tough breaks in life, just like Donnie did when he was younger. Donnie realizing he has it in his power to help Viktor similarly as Mary Anne had helped him. Donnie has the power to help him both from a Watsonian perspective as he has the money, connections & resources, but also Doylist as he's as The Hero archetype of the story. I imagine there would have to be some other kind of impetus too, maybe Donnie doesn't personally like the current contender(s) for the heavyweight belt and would rather Viktor get another shot at it. The Olympics could be used as a backdrop too or at least where Donnie and Viktor could cross paths again. Though it's really hard to say whether Viktor would willingly box for the Russian national team if they came calling, but then again the Russians might not give him a choice considering how the USSR and now Russia have been depicted in the "Rocky"/"Creed" franchise.
@@ClairvoyantMeow Okay, I'll "bite" on that idea: Let's use a moment from Dolph Lundgren's own life (See his Ted Talk). His dad told him that to do anything with life, he couldn't stay in socialist Sweden, that he had to go to America. Viktor worked two jobs: Construction and bar-tending (though that was cut from the opening as the opening was changed). Let's suppose that Ivan and Viktor feel like there is nothing left for them in Ukraine, so they decide to come back to America to try to get American citizenship. In time, they get it. Let's say as a bonus that during this time, Ivan and Viktor get to know a nice old lady and her grand-daughter also trying to come over from Eastern Europe. Viktor gets his own "Bianca" (Let's call her "Celestina". Romanian for "Heavenly") . Ivan buries the ghost of Ludmilla leaving him. I like the idea of Adonis either thinking of retiring or spending more time as a family man. Maybe the injuries Viktor gave him, while not life-threatening by now, still nag him on occasion. Or he could just say to himself. "My family is more important now." As for the Olympics, that backdrop would allow Adonis and Viktor to fight as a team. Perhaps Viktor becomes a naturalized American citizen and he decides to try out along with Adonis for the US National Boxing team. This would be a good chance for Viktor to give his former country (Russia) the "giant middle finger", particularly if he learned that his half-brother that we spoke of earlier was on the Russian national team. The whole "found" family versus blood thing. Like if there was this dude called Vladimir Stravinsky or whatever name you want and he says to Viktor: You have lost yourself, your family, and everything that was important." Then Viktor says: "Wrong. I have found them."
I like the fact that everybody thinks Drago is the real underdog in the film, but especially for me, he is my favorite actor there. You can see the destruction in his eyes.
No. It sounds like a nice idea but it would've ruined everything because it would give away the Dragos' soft, human side too soon. As viewer, you get to the final fight with the feeling that Ivan is blindly fixed on his pursuit of revenge and Viktor is nothing but his soul-less automatic tool. Revealing their kinder side before would take the spotlight out of the hug, which is the top moment and probably the one and only time when Ivan showed true affection to a really devastated Viky.
@@TheMoonlight2887" I disagree. The scene would of only revealed the human side of Viktor, not Ivan. And rightfully so it should. It would make sense that the son doesn't have the same goal as the Father in regards to core experience. Viktor wanted to be accepted by his Father's country due to their name being tainted. That would of been his revenge against his Mother and etc. But, Ivan. Wanted to prove everyone wrong. The prominent person being his Ex-wife( so it seemed). @@TheMoonlight2887 I disagree again. I do agree that Florian did say that Viktor does not hate Rocky or Adonis. However, I do think that when he added in Ivan, there was no context, and I have proof. Within the film and within dozens of interviews including Dolph Lundgren, it is heavily emphasized that Ivan hates Rocky, and blames him for his loss after the Soviet fight in the 80's and wants revenge. The character expresses this in their first encounter with Rocky Balboa in Creed 2, and in another deleted scene(Rocky and Drago fight in the hospital lobby after Adonis's first fight with Viktor). A nice source displaying almost all of my proof is the Creed 2 Featurette: Ivan Drago. Even then, I don't think the deleted footage would of collided with the film. Nonetheless, it doesn't exist within the film anyways. Unless Warner Bros decides to come out with a director's cut.

Well, Florian let slip something about two more films planned, but he also said he's very dubious (more inclined to "no thank you") about coming back as Viktor. Dolph did say yes to reprising his iconic role but only under the condition of NO MORE RUSSIAN, which is just ridiculous; obviously, Ivan would use his native language when he speaks to his son!
