This is a no-til garden, I use chicken manure and rabbit manure along with blood meal and bone meal. Some years I will top dress the bed with 2 inches of fresh compost. Nothing seems to bother the garlic, the deer don't like it and the bugs stay away from it. We love to harvest the scapes in the spring, they stay fresh for weeks in a zip lock bag in the fridge. I am really sad if I don't get garlic planted in the fall. It is ok to plant in the early spring, but the bulbs are not quite as large. They really do well if they stay in the ground throughout the entire winter. We are in zone 6 a-b depending on the weather each year. So far looks like this winter is going to be above normal temps.
