So, Ukrainian's Kursk offensive cost the AFU the use of its best brigades in Donetsk allowing the Russians to more easily advance. Meanwhile, the AFU's most elite brigades get decimated in open areas within Kursk while a lot of their equipment gets destroyed.
Sounds like an equation for disaster to me.

Getting rid of general Zelushny was the biggest mistake Selensky made.
And all because his general became too famous for his liking and that the general spoke his mind didn't sitt well witz Selensky either of course.
Well, sacking generals that are too popular and successful has been a move we have seen since almost forever. And it almost never was a smart move...

@@cdeford2 I am no insider of course, but all I ever heard was that the general was growing more and more popular and was considered to be a favorite if it came to a vote.
And that he told Selensky stuff the president didn't like to hear.
Pro U. channels spoke about his growing popularity as well and that he did not agree to everything the president said as well.
So it is not some R. propaganda to slander Selensky.
I can be mistaken of course, but afaik there is nothing that hints at a coup or stuff like that.

On the night of August 20, a series of fires broke out on military facilities in Europe which were involved in military supplies to Ukraine. A large fire broke out at the warehouses located on the outskirts of the city of Brasov in Romania. The facilities belong to the Eurotex company. The warehouses stored various military equipment, including UAVs, and medicines prepared for transfer to the AFU. The fire spread over an area of more than 10,000 square meters. 12 fire brigades were involved in its extinguishing. Another incident took place at night in Poland. Three trucks full of military equipment for the Ukrainian army burned out on their way from military warehouses to the airfield. The cargo included military equipment, casques, bulletproof vests, and ammunition. As a result of the fire, the loud secondary detonation was heard in the villages of Aleksandrovitsa and Muravitsa located nearby.
These are far from the first mysterious incidents on military facilities in European countries, involved in military supplies to the war-torn Ukraine.

I simply do not understand what the whole point of this Kursk offensive was.
Did they really expect that they could just grab a bunch of Russian land of limited strategic significance and trade it during peace negotiations? But the Russians have not even given any guarantees that they would even take part in any peace negotiations yet.
Did they think they could capture the Kursk NPP and blackmail Russia? The Kursk NPP is 60+km from the border, there is no way to hold it even if they did capture it.
Was it to draw Russian troops away from other fronts to defend Kursk? That could not have been it either, since the Ukraninians themselves drew troops away from the other fronts for the Kursk operation.
No matter how you look at it, it simply does not make any strategic sense.

    • @kathrynck
      @kathrynck 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

It's hard to say. I do think that russian territory probably holds 'some' negotiating leverage. And that the area needed to contain the incursion is larger than the area of the incursion itself, so it 'might' draw more russian forces from the main lines than ukrainian. It's also possible that Ukraine thought they would try fighting in an area where they could 'try' to apply F-16's to the battle (which definitely won't work very well).
But I think all it did was solidify russia on deciding to aim to take everything east of the Dnieper (the whole east half of ukraine).
I think Ukraine doesn't have any "good" options available though. So they chose one of their bad option which would re-shuffle the deck a little bit, and then crossed their fingers. It satisfies the principal of hitting where a foe is weak, and the principal of being unpredictable. But that alone isn't enough to win at chess.
I do think that when a side is losing in a conflict, they are in desperation, and all desperate options are poor. And history is a little too eager to call a desperate act "mistake" even though pretty much every available option would be called that after the loss.

@@Annou7layou do not understand much if you think this is not true.
Every military is green until forged in combat, and a combat forged army is much more competent.
As long as you balance it with replacement of losses, you end up with a much stronger force.
This is what happened in all winning nations in WWII, in case you don't believe me.
Why else do you think every army from the Red army to the US army ended up much more competent than at the beginning of WWII?
It is dangerous to fight your enemy and not win - the enemy grows stronger
You can even see the same phenomenon on BOTH sides in this very war!! The Ukrainian army is much more competent than it was in 2022, and the Russian army is much more competent than it was at the end of 2022-start of 2023. The rebels prior to the war also turned into a tough nut for Ukraine to crack.
The difference is that Russia has a superior ability to replace its losses in men and materiel, while Ukraine is slowly losing.
It is a disgusting Anglo Saxon fantasy to believe that making Slavs fight themselves will somehow weaken Slavic nations. Apart from the disgusting attitude to human life, the winner actually ends up with a much more competent military that will pose a long term threat.
Meanwhile all Anglo Saxon and most western nations are being tunnelled out from the inside by demographic conquest and low birth rates, disruption in their core social order through excessive immigration, and tunnelling out of their economies and industrial capacities. It is a desperate situation that these countries should focus on and bring to heel, and I speak as an Australian. Yet instead they are distracted by escapades elsewhere.
In 100 years, I doubt if many western ethnic groups will even exist as majorities in their countries!

None of that here and they're unlikely to get it. because NATO countries still want to try to keep up the charade that they are not really active belligerents in the war (also, it's a fairly long way to fly up from Romania, the only country that has so far volunteered to host aircraft flying across Ukraine and close to the frontlines; Ukraine itself doesn't have any safe airfields except maybe in the extreme west)

      Not at all.
      1. If 47th is still in pokrovsk the situation is still very bad, if they are moving to Kursk it just becomes worse.
      2. Ukraine has sent 2 additional mechanized brigades to Pokrovsk yet they're unable to stop the Russian advance, if the 47th is still there then they've simply become so weak that the situation simply has become too difficult for the Ukrainians and again the Kursk offensive just makes bad worse.

They started to build fortifications since 2014. Strong? As I understand it is like houses in a story about Wolf and 3 pigs. Some are very useful, and some were for money laundry.
Pokrovsk is almost last line of fortifications (comparing what to thos fortifications from Pokrovsk to Russian border) after that it is much easier to get to Dniepr river.
