  • Struggling on the uploads but I promise they're coming this week! I have been fishing a bunch and having some awesome days, just been taking it easy on the editing. That's changing tonight though...so be ready.
Got out on Burke for an afternoon Muskie hunt. I got to try out a bunch of new baits and a new rod - we go over these in this vid and look for our first Burke lake SKIIIIIIII.

Burke Lake, a tough nut to crack. Born and bred in Burke. Have fished for largemouth their for years, but started fishing Burke for muskie about five years ago. Have had a few sightings and landed a 45incher trolling in January a few years back....cold and windy. My PB and caught in my backyard.

I first fished Burke Lake the day it opened, I've caught 1000's of Crappy & Bass [ I DON'T KEEP THE BASS] &100's of Catfish over the years. The fish that you catch out of this lake are some excellent tasting because the water is so clean, the Lake hasn't changed that much in the last 50+ years. Enjoy yourself on Burke Lake I know I have.

@10:16 the lure name is, The Manta. It was made by River Run Lures and I think they got bought out and now I'm not sure who's making them. Drill a small hole in the back of the clear lexan lip large enough to fit a small split ring through it. Add a small snap swivel to the split ring and put a small spinner blade on the snap swivel. There, now you've just added a spinner tail to the lure and gave it a little more flash and vibration.

If u wanna catch some BIG Muskie u need to come to heidecke lake Morris Illinois. I go out there to fish for bass and end up catching more Muskie on jerk baits. The Muskie out there get more than 50"

Back in the day one of the top bass lures at Burke all day long, even through hot summer days, was the buzz bait! I have only ever had one musky on and another one missed there. Both on Buzz baits, fishing for bass! I would fish ever inch of it using only s buzz bait. Maybe in between catching bass you will hook a big Muskie! Good luck bro!🙄😁

Another great video! Loved the editing, your chill attitude, and that you manage to teach us noobs without having to catch a fish! 100% my favorite TH-camr and I get excited every time I see you uploaded a new video. I love that you made the effort to turn your boat and get yourself out of the wind to make a higher quality viewing experience while other popular fisherman would say "haha bet this wind audio is so bad right now, oh well"

  • @MsPrincesspaulina
    @MsPrincesspaulina 6 ปีที่แล้ว

@7:24 You ask about muskie's facing into the wind like bass.
Truth is, it's that they face into the water current. Sometimes the current is created by the wind so then they face into the wind. However, water current can flow in a direction other than the wind direction so they'll face the current direction.
There can be multiple currents flowing at the same time, some created by the wind and others created by the natural water drainage flow. You're a river fisherman, you know all about cross currents, eddies, backflows, etc, more than I do. Lakes can also exhibit the same current patterns.
Lake of The Woods has a natural drainage current flow from south to north. On a day with 30 m.p.h. winds out of the west you can run into cross currents out there, the top few feet of water current is driven by the wind and the bottom current stills flows south to north drainage. The fish are facing the current but which current? lol Then you get all kinds of odd currents out there created by the different island, necked down saddle areas between islands or islands and mainland. I mention L.o.T,W. just to keep planting the bug for you to go fish it someday. lol
Then there is Seiche Currents which really gets too in depth (no pun) and makes my brain hurt.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seiche
Make it easy on yourself and remember fish face the current. If that happens to be the same as the wind direction, and often it is, then great. It makes your job easier, but never assume the wind and water current is the same because just as often, it's not.
Watching all your old muskie videos again. I enjoy them and figure you need the view counts. lol

@ 10:18 the RiverRun Manta, the originals, don't have markings and glide better than the later version that has a marked lexan tail. Probably the best pike glide bait for raising fish (I don't have muskies in the UK!) But they're crap hookers, go up a size on the hooks mate;)

The flashabo bucktails fluf out in the water

You're still working your glidebait with a sideways twitch of the rod. STOP IT! I keep telling you and telling you! lol You're making it harder on yourself.
Use down strokes of the rod. The bait will be easier to work and you can get it to have even more action.
Start with the rod horizontal in front of you at the 9:00 o'clock position, down stroke the rod to about the 7:00 o'clock position, reel up the slack while bringing the rod back to 9:00 o'clock, repeat.
I thought you were going to retire that CCB bucktail that you caught your big one on? You're going to piss off the muskie gods if you don't retire it. Remember, P.M.A.!!
Nice to see a new video today. I've been going through withdrawals since the end of the 30 day challenge with no new video each day. But you're looking like you're now rested up a little bit. It was also nice to see someone else change a trailer tire rather than me.
Finally, get used to the idea of muskie videos without much fish action in them and upload them so we can watch, anyhow. Muskie fishing is like that, long days of no fish action, day after day of it sometimes, it gets discouraging at times. But as you already know, suddenly there's a big one and all that time spent without any fish action is worth it!!!
WHOO HOOO! More SBFISHING videos to come! (and the crowd goes wild!)

Not to make excuses but the new rod is almost 8' long and I am only 5'6...it would be hitting the water every pull haha. Definitely easier in a taller boat though I noticed when I fished with Dennis and Chace the other day.

Yeah, I see your point. That could be a problem. In time, you might have to get a shorter rod. Most of my rods are around 7 feet with my jerkbait rods about 6 1/2 feet. I have some 8 footers that I use for throwing bucktails and trolling but they're to long for jerkbaits

Yeah my 7'4 rod would definitely be better also because the reel seat is further up the rod than normal....I just really wanted to test out the new rod! Haha

Can't blame a man for wanting to play with his rod. Wait, that just sounds wrong. Oh well, you know what I mean. I've got a couple of new rods here that I've not used yet and can't for awhile either, so I understand the excitement of a new fishing rod.
I've been up all night watching muskie videos on youtube. lol
Good luck on your next muskie hunt. Catch a big one and let her go.

can wait for the day that you get a strike on the figure 8! You are going to lose it! One of the most exciting things in the world to see a large Muskie come up and destroy your bait right next to the boat. Plus you feel the raw power of these fish and it is slightly humbling. Great video Matt

I know it will happen eventually and it's something I'm truly looking forward to. I just hope I don't freeze up, drop the rod, or scream like a school girl. 😂
