  • Neuroscience, psychology and data science merch! Book recommendations!
A great way to support the channel and to help us to keep going is to check out our merch shop! My wife has created tons of really cool neuroscience, data science and psychology themed shirts, mugs and other gifts.

You can also help the channel by checking out one of my favorite neuroscience books! If you're like me though and don't have time for a physical book then consider listening to one of these on Audible. You can get one of these for free by signing up for a free trial. Even if you cancel before the trial is up, our channel still gets some much needed support!

Pre-Suasion: A Revolutionary Way to Influence and Persuade: amzn.to/3CBgdlm
Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking: amzn.to/3DDAmsm
Never Enough: The Neuroscience and Experience of Addiction: amzn.to/3nx1ioi
Are you frustrated because you want to read as much as you can but you can never find the time to pick up a book? I noticed as I got older and busier that I was reading less and less every year. Audible was an absolute game changer! I was able to listen to all the books I wanted to and it was all during the down time moments where reading a physical book was impossible (driving my car, doing the dishes, out on a run, working in the yard..). In the last 5 years I've now listened a total of 4 months 20 days and 8 hours and have managed to listen to over 200 books. They do a free trial and give you your first book for free so give it a try and see if you get sucked in like I did.

Consider checking out my udemy course on group dynamics and social psychology!
If you enjoy my lectures than you might also enjoy my online course on group dynamics and the ways in which groups influence our behavior. www.udemy.com/...
This is the thirteenth lecture in the cognitive neuroscience course. As humans all feel a sense of agency when we go about our days. We are constantly making decisions, both big and small, in every moment about immediate concerns and long term goals. Our brain has developed mechanisms that allow it to develop and maintain these goals and to initiate the actions that serve to accomplish them.
These videos have been edited to remove personal and class specific information and to remove questions from students who have not given me permission to include them in the video.

Would help to have a better audio rig. This recording leaves alot to be desired. Do you have an updated version? On another note, the reason ive arrived to such research is because it dawned on me the otherday. How much control does one truly have. And, Im willing to bet that most peoples shortcomings are directly correlated to their under-estimation or complete ignorance of the subject.
Anywhats, could you make a second vid or link me to a similar sample.
    Highly appreciate it.

This was originally created as a supplement for my students with a mic that I was able to afford on a grad stipend. My audio is much better in more recent videos.
I think you may be treading into some philosophical waters with this question and broaching the divide between determinism and will. It's pretty well accepted in the neuroscience world that we are unaware of over 98% of the activity that our brain engages in and this leads a lot of people to assume that we have very little control. I really lean into Joseph LeDoux's take on this though which states that a human's ability to think about things in a deliberative way (weighing different options and choosing the best strategy) gives us much more will then other species probably experience. It's interesting to note though that there's lots of psych studies that have been done that show that your behavior is fundamentally different if you have a deterministic vs a free will type belief driving your intentions.
I'd love to update the video but I am a busy father and student and I'm currently working on other creative projects. I'd highly recommend checking out some of our podcast episodes (The Social Brain) in the live section of my channel because we do touch on a lot of these topics in our discussions. Particularly the episodes on mindfulness and attention.
