I’ve had the 6L6 for a couple of weeks and I just ordered the EL34. I’m impressed with the tones coming from the 6L6 and the responsiveness through the guitar’s strings. I’m sold on tube amps now.
Great review. I always like when someone reviewing an audio product gives their opinion as well since they’re actually there. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Everyone calls the red grill "oxblood", but when I saw it I said "Red Velvet" too. 11:39 That's genius comparing the miked output on the left with the emulated output on the right simultaneously. Well done!

It sounds like this amp is a great fit for your style and vice versa. What's happening in 2019 that Fender is making great Marshalls (the Bassbreakers) and Blackstar is making great Fenders?
Great combination - the G&L Comanche and the BlackStar tube amp. For my ears the dynamic of tube amps recorded with a mic is still better than the fully digital recording solutions ...
Great review! I love the simplicity of this amp. I have owned a Core:ID100 for 3 years and although I work in IT and have no problem operating the Insider/Architect software, I find the plethora of controls really fiddly and over complex for how I use it. My preference is to run FX pedals into the amp/loop, so just need something that provides a lovely amp sound, with no faffing. This 6L6 seems to do that 🙂👍🏻
You can get similar warm distorted sounds with the Digitech Bad Monkey padal if running out of money but this amp is worth any penny even not well made so if on tour get a 2nd one as sparer
I got one of these sweet sounding amps, built in HT distortion pedal is fantastic but go for the KT 88 tube version which are amazing, still looking for one at a nice price
Agreed! A greatest hits video would be great. Every Jonathan video has licks where I have to stop and replay it a few times before continuing because they're soooo tasty. Usually it's something Jeff Beck-ish.
You are so real. That is why I dare to ask you about your opinion about the speaker and if you have any recommendation to replace it. I am an aficionado and to my ears the speaker although rather cheap compare to others, it seems to match well the amp. Thanks for the demo, it is awesome.
Nice Vid Jon! Love your Demo and Reviews!! Does the DRIVE Function work as a Clean Boost or is like switching channels and give you a Dirty Boost? The Amp sounded Great in you control! Please keep up the good work and have a Great Day my Brother! Cheers from the US!
You reviewed the AC10, I know they are different tubes but do you have any preference on what one you liked better the ac10 or the studio 10? Thanks for great videos.
Nice review. Great tone with your G&L. Seems a good match for the BS Studio 10. I’m seriously considering one of these. Have you played humbuckers through it? Wondering if it sounds best with single coils.
I played them all, bought the EL 34 model and changed the speaker to a V Type Celestion...The 6l6 sounded too thin on clean, like a SS amp and the OD side too harsh. The KT88 was killer on OD but the cleans just fat and uninspired..The EL 34 was perfect, check out the Dawson Quail demo and that is with the cheap 70/80 it comes with. Play a Tumnus into the clean, or crank the OD for JCM 800 grind.
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Yes they sold a lot of that model, just not to my taste. I really wanted to like it because I don't own a 6l6 amp, after playing it I know why...

hello, excellent video and review, it is possible to use this amp in a bedroom and achieve good tones?,or it's too loud? keep making these videos! Thanks and take care
I have a Blackstar Artist 15 that I changed the 6L6 tubes for 5881's and I put a greenback in it. I love that amp, but I recently bought the new Fender Deluxe Reverb Tone Master and I have to say, it is a huge sounding amp. It is so flexible with the power scaling and the direct out for silent recording and the choice of 2 IR's a SM57 or R121. The powerscaling alone makes the amp worth having at home, without it, the amp would be a hair too loud to get the tone out of it. Have you had a chance to play either Artist 15 or the Tonemaster?
I have...I just played the Blackstar studio 10 6l6 and both Tonemasters twin and DR....what a waste of time...I found the Tonemasters lacking the tube shimmer and magic they are COMPLETELY OVERPRICED and the reverb sounded fake and sterile. The power scaling on them I found not useable at all...When you dime the Tonemaster and click all the way down to the second setting of power scaling its already wayyy too loud foe the house...Now it does capture a fender tone yes...But when you have been playing for 35 years and really develop ears for the magical tones only a tube amp can provide THIS BLACKSTAR FOR NEARLY HALF PRICE OF THE TONEMASTER KILLS IT!!!! If you want a real Delux reverb sound get the custom delux reverb 64 handwired or just a regular princeton or DR...same price or close to the Tmaster
@@sugarlife485 LIke I stated, I have the Artist 15 and now the Tone Master. Two completely different style amps. The Blackstar is a Marshall sounding amp. There are probably not many Fender amps you like compared to the rich sounding Marshal style tone of a Blackstar. Luckily I now have both and a modded Fender Excelsior that oddly gets compliments every time I use it. It was a PawnShop Series amp and very cheaply made. I changed a lot of things and it really sings now, and when I can turn it about at least half way, it sings. It doesn't sound like a Fender it sounds like an old tube amp from the 50's like an old Magnatone or Supro...
@@sugarlife485 We can agree to disagree. I am a 45 year player who have owned all the big ones from a 68 Plexi to an 82 Boogie Mark IIb and I spent a large amount of time with a Vintage 68 Deluxe Reverb with a JBL in it. The Tone Master is as close that I have seen to a tube amp at half the weight. For the stage especially where volume is an issue, the powerscaling is a gem. I respect your opinion, because I know you know tone, I just think you were a bit harsh on the Tone Master.
Stellar review and playing ! Was wondering how would it behave in a rehearsal and gig context (keeping in mind microphoning and other techniques to bring its natural volume up). Is it possible to play it quietly with headphones? If so, is the sound good? (is it true valve sound or solid state circuit for the headphones line out?)
I'm debating on going with the 40watt MK Blackstar or thenew Fender Twin Tone Master with a pedal board or Something on the line of Line 6 Helix. I tried an Eric Clapton Strat. It was one of the best assembled Strats in my hand. Very well put together. What are your opinions on choices? I have a modeling Mustang amp tweeked to my liking. Still not like a tube twin. However the new electric Tone Master Twin is light and as well sounding as their Tube Twin. Thanks for your awesome demos.

Hi I have this same amp. Enjoying it much too. Though I haven’t tried a true Fender Blues Junior, can I get your insights on the two? FBJ vs BS studio 10? Thanks man
Nice demo. Great guitar playing. But I do dislike that everybody in the demo's says that it is a full tube amp. It is Not! The overdrive is done by solid state elementsw. So you must say it is a kind of hybride. These amps sounds like a dream and that is what counts. A lot of brands sell this kind of amps. Depending where and how the preamptube is placed it will be very difficult to get a good effect from i.e. a fuzzface or treble booster. Those effects will only work when they "see" a grid of a tube at the input.
