- After her 6 years of one-sided love, Kotoko got married to Naoki, and they went to Okinawa for their honeymoon. In flight heading to Okinawa, they meet a newlywed couple which disturbs their honeymoon. They face a crisis of post-honeymoon divorce, but after all, Kotoko has a stronger bond with Naoki and feels happy. When Kotoko goes back from the honeymoon, she is shocked to learn that their marriage paper has not been filed yet. This is Naoki’s decision that he would not file the marriage paper until his father’s company, Pandai, makes it through.

Ikr the people defending his character are ridiculous. He's a walking red flag fr, like any toxic relationship, he gives you bouts of good moments but all are few and far in between. He has hurt kotoko more than he showed her "love" and "care" for her and he never seemed to apologize to any of his behavior and he'd gaslighted her so many times. He even let kotoko take the fall for not going to the Tokyo U entrance exam when he could've clearly told anyone he has time even after rushing her to the hospital, he watched kotoko's father do the deep bow and he couldn't care less which if anyone knew japan culture, that was extremely embarrassing on that context. He let other people bully and make fun of kotoko on that high scholl graduation ceremony they had. He kissed her forcefully, regardless if she liked him, that was not the way to go, he didn't have her consent, he kissed her too when she was asleep, again regardless of whether she liked him, he clearly doesn't respect her of he thinks he can do that. He only wanted kotoko when he thought he was gonna lose her to kin-chan, ffs he was already engaged to a different girl then, he both played with that girl and kotoko's feelings.
Even at the end of this episode, he didn't even try to follow her or appease her. He didn't care what would happen to her *wife* .
And i could really go on and on about him and dude if you found a guy like this in real life, run away.
Tbh i think people are just defending him cause he's handsome but attach the same attitude to a less attractive male and see how they change their opinion.
And before dense and blind fans attack me, I only am talking about the character Irie Naoki and not the actor Furukawa Yuki.
Edit: there's also a lot of faults with kotoko's character, girl can't live without a man, can't respect herself jfc but that's a discussion for a different time.

Naoki Irie gives me butterflies in my stomach but Kin-chan and Keita are those who give me comfort and peace. I love Naoki's character development but irl, if Kotoko wasn't this patient and dedicated, no one would be able to take Naoki's attitude.

Kotoko’s acting during her breakdown was spot on, even better and more heartfelt than what was in the anime 👏
this episode just confirms that Keita is such a good guy and that's why Naoki is jealous. He recognises Keita would be good for Kotoko. He'd give her affection and care, and he could joke around with her in a way Naoki couldn't. Even when mom is asking that random student about Keita, and the student lists off all these traits about what a good guy he is, even mom is like "oh crap my ship is in trouble!". Because both her and Naoki know that Naoki is indifferent, standoffish, and gives out affection sparingly. Obviously with Kotoko he's less so, because he does love her and value her, but he doesn't know how to make that apparent. And he also knows that there is no one else in the world who would put up with him the way Kotoko does, and HE is in fact lucky to have HER, not the other way around as so many people like to say. So everything about Keita makes him jealous and anxious as hell because Kotoko may wake up one day and realise that a guy like Keita is what she wants, not Naoki.

Yess, the woman loves Kotoko and Naoki, she wants the best for them and since the beggining she roots for their relation, but she doesn't give them privacy, she's always there! That's a bit annoying. And it got worse after the marriage.

Fun fact it's actually based on the author and her husband who's Naoki's prototype. He produced this version as a confession telling her he always loved her ever since she slowly chased after him. He also made Kotoko smarter, cuter whilst Naoki more flawed and weaker because he was never the perfect guy his wife viewed him as whilst she was always the best for him.
The reason as to why he made this is to have her name next to hers again. If you understand Naoki and his pov, he isn't a badguy. He isn't used to this things, it's the first time he's experiencing things like sadness, excitement. Even here he kept his distance because he didn't want to hurt her whenever he saw herself.

I cried so much on the ending part because it so rare to see Kotoko crying and getting so upset to the point she throw things to Naoki and shout at him. It really breaks my heart it also reminds me when my parents used to fight.
I noticed Naoki can't concentrate on reviewing before their tests because kotoko was not sitting beside him while reviewing. Maybe it became his habit already that everytime they were together reviewing before the test and also that he is really feeling jealous that he already thinks about it every time so the result was he said that it became the worst time that he took the test.

Its been years but Honoka Miki's acting angrily on the last part was really emotional. She slayed it! Until now I keep watching this J version and I'm still moved by them especially on this part when Kotoko finally released her anger, I really cried and carried away too!
Y’all don’t be mad that she freaked out and fought with Naoki. It’s understandable when a guy you love doesn’t show you how much he loves you even tho y’all are together. She finally let out all the anger that she’s been keeping in herself about him ever since the start. So it’s just her showing that she doesn’t feel the love that he tries to show.

He shows her just not in the way she thinks he should. She lives in a fantasy of how her husband should react and he is different from her. Which causes her frustration. By now she should know how he shows his love because he has shown it time and time again. It's so sweet that when Naoki's feeling down and fighting with Kotoko he seeks out Kinchan for good food and good advice! Like, despite their circumstances as longtime rivals, Kinchan always really easily understood what was going on with him, and has been directly responsible for helping Naoki figure out his shit both through his own actions and his harsh-but-true words and like. I'm not sure whether Naoki even seeks him out consciously here for this, but like. He very clearly was stopping by to talk- because even if neither of them acknowledge it on a conscious level, there's definitely a real bond between these two and I'm just happy to see them finally able to take it out of the strictly confrontational zone and properly start their friendship here!!

I think that Naoki might have opened up to Kin-chan for advice is because Kin-chan is the only other guy that has been in love with Kotoko. He knows her well. Naoki and Kin-chan share a bond in that way. Also, Kin-chan does not mince words he will tell you straight what's going on.

Naoki is the luckiest between kotoko and himself. He has a really patient wife to deal with all of his coldness and his side that piss me off, no wonder kotoko can't hold it anymore now

You've got the point. I know he is a jealous partner after watching the season 1. He is also good at hiding it but i can tell it all. If you look him close from the previous , you will see he put all his attentions to every guy that comes close to Kotoko and somehow he manages to shove them away from Kotoko but him. Hahaha he reminds me of my husband's image from the days we just start to know each other. I love this drama because my love story is pretty similar to it. But mine is the office romance. Every time i rewatch this series, i always smile and tell him that how Naoki kun is similar to him and that I'm amazed that i win his heart over.
Naoki is possessive to her. He doesn't want any man to come steal her heart even before they got married. He always make sure that any man would feel he holds the upper hand because he have her heart and her 100% attention. But keita is in another level. I just realize that this scene happens to my parents last week. My father is like Naoki and my Mom is like Kotoko. Last week my Mom got really mad at my Dad and like Kotoko, it was the first time hearing my Mom say something Mad to my Dad, she said all the things that were inside her for the past years and to the point that they are ignoring each other for a week. But thankfully they are already fine.

Naoki is actually pitiful, all his life he's been told how great he's and that he's perfect because can solve everything without trying. There was nothing in life that excited him, challenged him to work harder or made him feel something. Everyday was a dull life repeating itself (as an adult that hits). That is until Kotoko came into his life, she kept forcing her love on him like a curse, stalked him, repeated "I love you" daily. For the first time he feels something and slowly fell for her whilst she chased him.
Naoki sees her as a challenge given by god, that's how deep his love and admiration for Kotoko lies. She often put him in embaressing, new situations and brings out these new emotions and feelings in him that by logic he believes make no sense since he's untouchable. Love and Jealousy is just something for other ppl, not him. So he can't process them properly, neither knows where to put them or how to handle them but he's trying for Kotoko's sake. He kept his distance because he knew that acting this cold towards Kotoko wasn't right but he didn't find a solution to the problem he was feeling. Whenever he saw Kotoko, Keita appeared in his head and he was afraid of losing her. Had he not met Kotoko he would've just continued his emotionless, cold, dull life and probably settled for a perfect wife in a loveless marriage without experiencing hardships or what love is. If you noticed it his love is subtle but just as meaningful as Kotoko's just less expressive, it's actions frist, words second and it's good that albeit his actions aren't right, he's slowly learning from his mistakes and growing
That explains well. Everytime I rewatch this drama I always thought that Naoki's character is very unique from all cold-hearted characters I know. I can see it on the surface that he doesn't care or was forced into it but when I observed how he watches his wife talking, there are invisible sparkles that makes him romantic. Given to his situation and his upbringing, he isn't like other people who can understand their own emotions. He got intelligence but that doesn't mean he's perfect. He can make mistakes too. I think he is lucky to meet Kotoko rather than Kotoko is lucky to have him. And he is very aware of that. In this episode was kinda hard for him because this is his first time to feel so threatened now that any man who is close to Kotoko can see her charming personality and can fell in love with her the way he does right now.
And for starters like him, it is hard to cope up in dealing jealousy. He never felt that way because he has never been jealous before because he can do all things effortlessly. I think it's a very big challenge to him. I know it's a red flag to some others but I think his character is constructed. He can be hateful sometimes to the way he treated Kotoko with his cold ways but if somebody has to take Kotoko away from him, damn he could be devastated. Because only Kotoko can bring out the best of him. So I think this is how Naoki should do when he's jealous.
But even though in this episode he treated Kotoko as sht, disregard her being his wife but at the end of the day he never stop thinking about her. He acted so cold and distant because he clearly doesn't know what to do. He doesn't know that what he is feeling is jealousy until Kin-chan pointed out for him. If he doesn't love Kotoko, then he shouldn't listened to him and let her out of his life. As I look closely, he wants to patch things with her but he doesn't know where to start. 🙂
I think his character has a lot of development going on and he really mean to learn and accept the changes in his life. People change when they love someone so does Naoki. Kotoko fell for him first but as they day goes by he will fall harder and deep loving her. All of this episodes have brought Naoki the real meaning of life that he can't just find easily on books. So this episode means special because we've got to witness how he takes his jealousy to any level. So it might be a red flag but no relationship is perfect.
@@blissfujiwara1753 I think compared to other versions, due the Naoki's prototype insights we actually understand him better and see him falling in love than in other version. The more you rewatch you notice things like him always staring at her, drinking her coffee to relax, helping her study frequently and so on. In my eyes they're both lucky to have each other no sane person would fall back in love with their obsessive stalker, Kotoko needs someone calm and who challenges her to work harder. Had she not met Naoki, she probably would've settled for Kinchan and just worked at her father's restaurant but never found her dream. The hardships they're both experiencing is helping them grow as people and as a couple. It's good that they have them. Smth on my rewatched I really loved was how Naoki didn't meddle in the issue with Rika, in some eyes that might be cruel, but it was smart. He let Kotoko "proof" herself and show that it can only be Kotoko, would he have meddled she wouldn't have gotten it. It shows how much he trust his wife and admires her.

I understand that Naoki doesn't know how to handle his first Jealousy and how to fix it or communicate it cause she was his first girlfriend and now his wife. But its pissing me of every time i see kotako, suffering. i feeeel satisfied when Kotako tell him everything. Anyway, after this experience he was able to help Yuki with his girl, saying that asking her straight was the simplest answer and making his brother know that he was just jealous. When ppl say Yuki was better, I just think he was lucky to have Naoki and Kotoko, he learned from them too and had someone to ask for help, unlike Naoki.
From these two I've learned that communication is important. You have to make yourself clear with your feelings and thoughts and put them in words, otherwise no one will get it, like Kinnosuke told him at the hospital.
I understand Naoki pov since I'm pretty like him when it comes to feelings, but I think I can learn from this series and be better, so when my time to be in love comes I'll be able to keep a healthy relationship.
Naoki is so wrong, he just needs to say his feelings and Kotoko will understand. Dont ignore somebody you truly love, it just leads to the irritation, upset behind. Thank God finally Kotoko lets out her anger, or I dont know how their relationship can go on😥

True. Naoki has his ways to express his feelings towards Kotoko. We always think that being vocal is a green flag but we should realize also that we have different ways of expressing our love. I've been rewatching this many times, I also thought before that Naoki is really bad but I realized that Naoki dont have experience in love before because he is really focus on his studies that's why you can tell that everything he feels is new to him.
His new to the feelings and nobody teach him how to be a good husband to her. For him , he tries his best to be there for her always. And to always make her feel loved in his own way. For him having a initiative to have physical contact is a big deal because he hates it himself. But because of her. He adjusts to her pace and tried to understand her and comfort her. He also has his shortcomings too. Just like kotoko has hers

i’m rewatching this again and i fully realize how kotoko’s questions and assumptions towards naoki are so valid especially since she never knows how he truly feels. it’s honestly so painful to see naoki SUCK at communicating like i feel like he should know to at least say a little bit of what he’s feeling 😭 like bro is not a child anymore😭 what makes it worse is that he was the one to say he wanted to marry her, to not fall in love with kin chan, to love nobody but him, and initiate for them to be together but then he goes off to say some bullshit like “go home with keita then” LIKE DPMTFO SIR. i understand he’s like this tho since she is his first love but he goes way too far with his words 🤷 i love when kotoko finally couldn’t handle it anymore and just throws shit at him. the actress’s acting is so so good, she rlly made me cry along with kotoko 😭

I love this series so much! and I love the last scene here, she nailed acting it! But I would STRONGLY recommend that you watch the Taiwanese version too! I know that the manga was Japanese, but the Taiwanese version was actually the very first TV adaptation of this series. The manga was officially released in 1990, the first TV adaptation was 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 (seasons 1 and 2). The Japanese TV adaptation only started in 2013. The Taiwanese one was suuuuuper detailed. I mean if I say detailed, even their bed scenes and kiss scenes were longer, lmaooo. Like if you compare it to the manga, all of the scenes were there, maybe some side stories, but it was a ride of emotions every single episode. The Japanese one consists of 16 eps per season, but the Taiwanese one consists of 20 eps per season. If you go to the confrontation scene of Kotoko with Naoki in the Taiwanese version, YOU WILL BAWL YOUR EYES OUT like, ROLL TO THE FLOOR. The amount of angst that scene handled was difficult to bear. Literally, I was ugly crying in my room when I watched it.
