Not sure if people are still checking out this vid, but I love dystopian/post-apocalypse fiction of all kinds. One I read early this year is The Line Between duet by Tosca Lee. It is about a woman who is freed from a religious doomsday cult, only to find very soon afterwards the world _actually_ falls into an apocalypse. So it is a pandemic story but is also a lot of commentary about cult 'culture' and what it means to leave what you know even when you know it's teachings are wrong, and has mystery/thriller elements too. Others I've enjoyed that are also all very different include; >The Wolf Road by Beth Lewis >American War by Omar El Akkad >Terra Nullius by Claire G. Coleman (this is an Aussie book and is really eye-opening) But to me, the ultimate Dystopia/PA story is the incredible Earthseed duet by Octavia E. Butler. The Parable of the Sower and The Parable of the Talents. TFS :)
I have read Paradise Girl by Phill Featherstone, first book in a trilogy. I really liked it, has a weird chilling end. Now I'm curious to delve into Aftershocks, which is book 2 and it's from the perspective of Lander, which is the twin brother of the girl in the first one.
I rated it 3 stars, and might have DNFed if it wasn't for the audiobook. The beginning didn't pull me in enough, but I was invested so I finished on audio 💜
I read this book and I cannot for the life of me decide on a rating... I can't say that I enjoyed it, but I do recognize it has things to say - such as commentary on racist, gentrification, corporations taking over (corporate greed vs government greed), etc. I also think a lot of commentary went over my head and, like Kayla said, I need to read up on this book to understand it better.
💀 I love Colson Whitehead! This was the second book of his that I read and it wasn't my favorite. My favorite is The Intuitionist, which is super weird and maybe highly dnf-ed. I think the most accessible I've read is The Nickel Boys.
If you want to read an apocalyptic book that will *definitely* give you the things-aren't-so-bad-right-now-after-all feels, read The Book of the Unnamed Midwife.

This is... kind of... like an interview for next booktuber I'll follow 😁

Home Before Dark is so good so far, also the dust jacket glows in the dark, not sure if people have realised this!

I tried to read this book 💀 I’m not sure what happened lol
It was a slog, and I had to struggle to get through it
Rachel is lovely!!!!!

Also has anyone watched the separate Home Before Dark show?
Nice to meet you, Rachel 😊
💀It took me soooooo long to read!!! Like I’ve forgotten much of it. But Colson is such a fine writer but this one had me stressed. 😔
I read Zone One in about an hour. I skim read most of it. It was so dry

The Zombie Autopsies by Steven C. Schlozman
The MC's name is Mark Spitz?? Like the swimmer? Is there a point to that?
