    Indianapolis is stunning! The outside world had no idea. Great live theater and excellent museums including the Children’s Museum and Conner Prairie Village. I truly wish I could move back to the area. However, not everyone thinks a warm, sunny day is “beautiful.” This is an opinion. I prefer cold and snow which I find romantic and beautiful.

    Hey Jason I just recently discovered your channel and as a resident of Indianapolis (technically Lawrence) I really enjoy your videos. I grew up just south of Indy in Franklin Indiana and I was hoping you might have done a video about Franklin but I can’t seem to find anything here on your channel. You’ve done Greenwood but it appears not Franklin which is just slightly south of Greenwood.
    I would LOVE to see a video on all Franklin has to offer! Lots of beautiful historic homes in the downtown area, vibrant downtown with lots of shops and restaurants, The Historic Artcraft Theater, Province Park, the new outdoor amphitheater, etc…
    Franklin is classic small town America but close enough to Indy that’s it easy to get there for outings and events.

    Here's my take after living in the Indy metro area for 22 years. I use to live in a highrise on a busy boardwalk right on the beach in Florida. A building where the grocery store, bars, restaurants, gym etc. was only an elevator ride down. . In 1998, I moved to Indy leaving all that behind. After living in the different areas of Indy metro area I have concluded Plainfield as the best over all suburb. The Airport main entrance being at the door step of Plainfield gives it a geographical advantage compared to the other burbs. Also downtown Indy access is quicker than most of the metro areas because of the widest freeway in the state the Super I 70 (a 3rd interchange will be added in future) which runs along the south perimeter of the airport with less traffic. Per capita Plainfield has a lot more established network of sidewalks and trails outside of Indy and Carmel. When I looked at places on the westside to move to I originally looked at Avon only to find that it does not have a downtown and if you drive down US 36 hardly no sidewalks with only stripmalls (Plainfield has more than just strip malls on 40). On US 40, Plainfield sidewalks on both sides consistently goes for miles (You need a car in some areas on the metro) The south side was terrible when it came to pedestrian options just go down US31 or Meridian Street(use to live down there). Avon does have trails but it's lacking pedestrian friendly infrastructure (it's okay if you just want to drive a car without walking). Plainfield in Hendricks County has the most trails and sidewalks while being the largest in population. Plainfield also has to 2 town squares not just one. Unlike a newer downtown it has both historic and new districts. The best of both worlds.
    Plainfield's 2 central core districts:
    1.New > Perry Crossing: (Formerly Metropolis) street view 1> goo.gl/maps/y3XGPneFd6cysUn97 streetview2>goo.gl/maps/DH3vAfZSoBdjch9y6 streetview3>goo.gl/maps/d3koqoFTbUHSBb56A streetview4> goo.gl/maps/EfGeqxyLeSsP4Zu97 Downtown Fishers doesn't have a movie theater. On scale at 200ft google satellite maps Perry Crossing appears to actually have a larger central core town square than downtown Fishers. A new ground breaking multi story Marriot has already gone up that could connect airport passengers and other out of town guess to access all the amenities here (ie restaurants, shops, Barnes&Noble, movie theater etc.) It all connects to the town square like downtown Indy ties into Monument Circle without leaving the core area.
    2. Historic> Downtown main street: streetview> goo.gl/maps/pdPz5xw4GUTt68k6A you have everything from a classic 50's diner, a theater, residential and mix use office. You also have a creek with trail that runs along it and pedestrian bridge that ties other historic neighborhoods to downtown which are walkable.

      When I first moved up to Indy in 1998 I originally wasn't impressed about Plainfield. I actually once said what's the heck is out there? However, when they built Metropolis (now Perry Crossing) in 2005 it was a complete game changer for me. If you drive on US 40 they are laying down new asphalt right now. I suspect Plainfield is getting a lot of it's revenue from being Indiana's largest warehouse district (just look at the satellite aerial with all the roof tops) featuring several corporations from everywhere to help pay for it's infrastructure up grade which I think is a clever move on their part. At first I didn't like Plainfield back in 1998 after moving up here from Florida but today I have to give credit where it's due and as an outsider I'm not even a native of Indiana. I noticed that there is a growing number of people moving here because of the jobs here with the Warehouses here. If in Plainfield visit the Oasis. It is one of the rarest 50's type dinners you'll find in the country (not too many left). The diner setting you see in movies. Apparently they transported this 50's classic diner from New Jersey. The food is down right awesome and it's located next to the trail in downtown. I look forward to seeing your videos. When it comes to Hamilton County I prefer Carmel as my second best suburb. That place has really come a long way since I moved up here. Wow! I use actually to work in Carmel in 1999. Every year my wife and I go up there to the Christmas festival. That place is just different on another level today and I can see why it's America's top suburb.

      @@Itravelbackintime Plainfield has certainly come a long way. It's a great place with some personality. It's been overshadowed by several other burbs but I think many in Plainfield are quite alright with that. Fantastic schools too. Thanks for the tip about the Oasis! I know of it but haven't been there... yet. Now that you've mentioned it I'll be adding it to our family's list. And yes, Carmel is on another level. The Arts and Design District and the Christkindlmarkt is unbelievable. Such a cool place! Stay tuned for videos about Plainfield. They will be coming in the future.

      Any place is better than Florida which is dull with nothing to do. A horrible state. Indianapolis area is superior in every way.

    • @Itravelbackintime
      @Itravelbackintime 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@janetkay6175 Sure, it's subjective in the eye of the beholder. Florida having nothing to do is like saying there's nothing to do for millions of people who go Universal studios or Disney World. I have would disagree as there there are tons of things ranging from beaches to many attractions in Orlando. Do I miss the beach? Absolutely. However, the down side while I lived on the beach is that it is outrageously more expensive compared to where I live now. The cost of living was just unbareable to stay there. One day I may buy a seasonal 2nd home there depending how well my business goes. The best of both worlds in my case.

Spent most of my life in StL and most of our family is there. Went to college in KC. Had a center I managed in Detroit suburbs. Live in Indy burbs now. So I can share my personal opinions on all of them if you’d ever want that perspective. I shoot straight and no bs. If you’ve settled on the Indy area, you’re making a good decision. Hard to beat.

    Hey, thanks for the replies on the comments from yesterday. I get a little overzealous in my defense of Indianapolis. Having lived in a variety of locations around the country and working/volunteering within downtown EDC's (RADC), I found myself championing most things Central Indiana. Actually, I understand the objectivity play. Must say, I'm glad it was a bit of a reach to create a list. Thanks. Agree, Zionsville is a great place!

    2 years ago Avon was 17th best place to live in America by Money Magazine behind Carmel and Fishers. Avon is number one place to live in Hendricks County. Not saying your list is wrong but it should of made that top 5 especially over Greenwood.

      @dbmae1532 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Avon is going downhill along with Brownsburg its really close to indy so its becoming a mixture plus avon is not big enough to even be considered a town its like it was forced

    • @BajaThisBlast
      @BajaThisBlast 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dbmae1532 ??? Avon has like 20k people and most of people that live in Avon aren't considered a part of the town, they're considered Washington Township. The town of Avon is trying to annex Washington Township to have the residents be a part of Avon as a whole. When they do that Avon would almost have over 35 to 40k of people....which is plenty to be a "Town"....there are places all over Indiana that are considered towns with populations under 10k of people. As for getting bad?...that's debatable. Carmel has had a few bad crime and I believe a shooting or murder last year but Carmel isn't considered bad by any means. With population growth crime does increase...that's statistically been shown anywhere. Hendricks and Hamilton counties tho are considered by far the best places to live around Indy and probably the whole state.

  • @catherinegarcia1748
    @catherinegarcia1748 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I agree, Fishers has changed a lot, and out of all of the places on the list, Fishers is my favorite due to the diversity of the people moving there now. Carmel is so overrated, though... you got more Karens there than I don't know what. And I don't know about safety, that's a bit misleading. There was a TV show that was based on Carmel High School about the bullying there. I agree with a lot of other comments, Avon should have made the cut. Its way more diverse than a lot of the surrounding suburbs of Indy.

    • @LivingInIndianapolis
      @LivingInIndianapolis  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're not the only one who thinks Avon should be there as well. Avon is a fantastic place and flies under the radar quite often.

  • @kimt8162
    @kimt8162 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    We're kind of fans of Fishers, however Fishers has really grown vs. 20 years ago. I think the value in Fishers has gone down a bit...higher price in houses yet more congested. What Indy had the potential for, that they I think missed the boat. The train/railways they naturally had there - they've ripped out some of that for I guess they're getting ready for yet another jogging trail. If they would have created a commuter train/railway for public transportation from Fishers to downtown Indy/back on a daily basis. That would have been tremendous in trying to get some of the cars off the road. I wish they would have copied some other cities with the possibility of public transit (off road) to downtown and back.

    • @LivingInIndianapolis
      @LivingInIndianapolis  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A transit line along the former tracks as discussed in some detail. It was extremely controversial and polarizing. It's absolutely true that public transportation in Indy is severely lacking. And, it's pretty much non existent in the suburbs. If you need to go somewhere and you can't do so on your bike, your only options are your car or someone else's (taxi, Uber, etc). But, Fishers is still a great place and getting a handle on the growth. The downtown area has come along and will be much better in the next several years.
