  • Welcome to my first TH-cam video!
I try to answer the question: What is the best budget medium format film camera? Check out the pros and cons of this 50 year old camera and hopefully you'll learn something along the way.

A manual shuttle release cable is possible! At the base of the shutter button there is a knurled knob which can be unscrewed. There are 'old school' cables that have a screw-on mount that goes over the release button. (Maybe from very early Nikons or Leicas,) It screws onto the threads exposed when you took off the knurled knob.
Envision an inner tube cap that fits over the shutter button. The cap is then attached to a cable release. Press the button end of the release, the cable then presses the shutter button and CLICK.
It is hard to find these, but I've heard stories of people using a metal inner tube cap, then drilling into the cap, then using a Tap and Dye set to put threads into the cap so that it accepts a standard manual cable release.
    Great video - happy shooting!

My first not plastic TLR was an EM. I bought it well used and finished wearing it out. I had it repaired and wore it out again. I have Rollriflexes, Rollercoaster, a Minolta Autocord. A
Myopia Flexeret, a Mzmiya C339f, and a few oddball TLR's, but yhe Yashica-mats are still a fave. Thanks for the review.

Mine too! I have a mamiya C3 and it's fantastic, but you can't beat the size and simplicity of the EM. Thanks for watching:)

Great video - excellent images. I would say that the EM is my go-to Yashica TLR for the same reasons you've pointed out. The meter is pretty accurate with negative film but you need to be careful with slide film as it is much less forgiving. The optics (made by Tomioka) are awesome and I've never been unhappy with the sharpness and color rendition it produces. BTW, based on the serial number (EM 6xxxxxx) your camera was made in 1966 (the first digit is the year). You are correct that it was first released in 1964 and it ran through 1967. Yashica was still making TLRs up through 1986. Chris

what about shooting bulb mode on it? is there a remote cable method possible?

    • @analogbug16

There is. It takes the same cable release as early Leica and Nikon cameras.

    • @kpsnow2411

Unfortunately no I don’t think so. The film advance is directly coupled to recooking the shutter.

I hope by now you've figured out the camera uses a "bell type" cable release.
