Just another thing from an electrician who’s been around for 45 years or so, I never turn off a main breaker with loads on it, every time you exercise a breaker with a load on it there’s gonna be a good sized arc inside that breaker. So to minimize any excessive damage to large breakers, unless it’s absolutely necessary to flip that large breaker with a full load on it, I always turn off the smaller loads first and then cycle the big breaker. ⚠️ And one more safety tip: Breakers are made out of hard plastic and can crack if there is a failure of this breaker while you’re turning it on or off that energy can flash out of the panel straight at you, just go look at arc flash accidents on TH-cam ⚡️💥 So for safety reasons, you always stand to the side when you’re flipping breakers and look away because you want to save your eyes at the minimum, thereby if anything goes boom it’s going to blow out the front of the panel, but not straight into you, stay safe out there and let’s push these manufacturers like the Hyundai iconic to make them all accessible for 110 V or like the lightning pick up truck or other vehicles all EV should have 110 V power available 15 amp circuit.
Good tips, man! I'm *shocked* about some of these tips. See what I did there? 😃 Are there any specific gloves I can wear to protect my hands when turning off breakers? Like Klein Tools or something?
@@VishalRaoOnTH-cam well if you really wanted to protect yourself, you would have to buy some expensive electrical gloves, but if your hand is in the way of the breaker, I’ll good pair of just heavy leather gloves is the best you can have. You’re not touching stuff you’re just trying to protect your skin, actual electrical working gloves are two pair of gloves, an inner rubber pair that you have to keep in a safe bag from puncher and dirt and nonsense with leather over gloves you can look them up just look up like lineman gloves, just to protect yourself, you’re doing thatand you want to feel more safe just some heavy heavy leather gloves if you want something longer than get a welders glove, they’re just not good for much else except Welder working with like heavy brush or something
Dude! I don't know how long you've had your studio like this but it's totally legit now. The mic and background and lighting. This is exactly what I would like mine to look like.
Using your truck on the regular to power your house would be a very different use case than occasional home backup. Tesla would need to weigh in with warranty considerations.
You are the first person to install, review, and explain the powershare product that I have seen on YT. It sounds like Foundation Series owners can get mixed results depending on where you live, regarding the powershare being installed. What was the difference between your previous tesla charger and the one that was installed? How do you know if you have the right charger already?
I don't know why home batteries are so expensive, the F-150 lightning costs like $45k now but has the equivalent of 8 - 11 Powerwalls which would be about ~$90k but you get an ENTIRE truck alongside the backup power. The same is true with the Cybertruck ( however Cybertruck is more expensive ). I understand that home-batteries do work better with Solar, power more things, and work more seamlessly integrated with your home. But I just don't get where the expensive cost is coming from.
Lots of good info in this video Chris. Thanks for sharing. The community knowledge-base definitely increase with the info here. Especially the Q&A at the end. My Tesla solar and PowerWall system gain features that was never conceived when it was commissioned years ago. That’s one of the cool things with Tesla, they add more features. Looking forward to seeing what more the CT to home integration can gain. One thing I would like to add with having the CT acting as a portable PowerWall is instances where power is down and PowerWall wasn’t able to charge from solar due to a storm. You can at least drive the truck to a charging site that still has power. Then bring that power back home to power the house through the night.
3:10 Thanks so much for asking (and answering!) this question. This is going to motivate me to get my Powerwall 3 cluster sooner than later. 6x Powerwall (6*13.5) + 1x Cybertruck is 81kWh + 123 kWh ==> 204 kWh. That's a comfortable 3 days of backup for me with full appliance usage (reverse osmosis water purification, 2 HVACs, septic system, electric dryer, dehumidifiers, and air purifiers).
Thx Chris your video is really helpful! Just got the email from Qmerit and was able to link up with my local electrician, Accel Electric, here in Las Vegas.
new tesla owner here… i’ve had my Model Y for about 3 months. still using my dryer outlet to charge so i could definitely put that charger to some good use. :)
I came across on TH-cam that dryer outlets and some 240 outlets can not handle being plugged and unplugged often and can cause a short and melt. You may want to do an upgrade.
This is by far the best feature of the CT, which is basically a rolling powerwall/generator. I hope Tesla enables/adds this feature to the rest of the lineup (as I own a Model Y and Model 3 w/a CT on order 🤔). Everything is running off the main panel (which makes the install easier). Awesome setup 👏🏻👏🏻. RIVIAN are you guys seeing this?, The R1’s need this!!
Great vid with good information. Thank you. I just bought my Tesla a month ago (Model 3). Not a Cybertruck sadly. Would not mind having your wall adapter if you are getting rid of it. Keep up the great videos!
Excellent video Chris! I have a question I haven't been able to get an answer to and I'm wondering if you can ask Trout about it. If a customer has an already existing solar and battery backup system for their home that is NOT made by Tesla, such as Enphase batteries in my case, can I still get powershare to work after taking delivery of a Cybertruck if the electricians add the Gateway and universal Connector to my existing system? I'm sure many other people are in this situation as well and it would be strange if the homeowner couldn't buy and use powershare because they have another brand of batteries for home backup. Thanks for any input you may have!
Nice video I am hoping they retroactively enable powershare for the model 3.This would be so much better supplementing a whole home Powerwall back up system instead of it being a standalone partial back up system
I just got my Model Y the end of May. I did my own 14-50 hubbell install but would love to have an actual wall charger its my 49 birthday Thursday. When I did the wiring run I built it with the hopes I could get a Tesla Wall charger by just swapping it in when the time comes.
Been watching a couple of your videos since you Rivian R2 video. The more videos I watched, I realized “Wait a minute, this guys lives in the same community as I in North Irvine!” 😅. So many familiar locations in your videos.
Great Video Chris! Ive been waiting for a video to see how this all works, nicely done. You could also use the NEMA 14/50 in the rear of the Cyber truckto backfeed your panel if you have a interlock and a NEMA 14/50 generator socket connected to a 50amp breaker, but it's very manual. Please pop me in the hat for the power charger. Thanks
I would really like this wall charger as I just got my first ev and first Tesla but only have the slow wall outlet charger. I commute my Tesla to work so I would really appreciate this
You may not of noticed or it may just be the filming frame rate but when the truck is powering your house and the green light on the wall connector shows it charging it is actually going backwards. On mine the green light goes from the top of the charger down to the cable when charging signifying that the power is coming from the charger going to the truck. It looked like your charger was going from cable or the bottom to the top signifying the power coming from the cybertruck going into the home. Just another neat feature along with the purple on the truck and charger.
I just watched this video, and you mention in the video you are getting rid of the current TESLA wall charger and to subscribe and leave a comment if interested. I do not currently have a tesla wall charger and am very interested. I Love your videos. Bought my first TESLA model Y performance in April. Your videos have helped me to decide the best settings, accessories to get and helped me to understand the ins and out of charging when going on a long road trip, which I plan on doing in the near future. Thank you! Keep the videos coming.
Great video Chris. Nice to know as I live in Southwest Florida and been dragging my feet on configuring cybertruck. Really waiting for none foundation series order. Would purchase your system at another time but would definitely need that to power AC since it’s brutal here especially in the summer
I would love to have your old charger! I have a cybertruck using the reg outlet mobile charger 😢i can only use it every other day lol…i have paid over 8k in vet bills since owning the cybertruck or i would of got it.
New Model 3 owner and would love your charger as I do not have one yet. The 110v charger is impractical so the supercharger is my only current option. First time viewing and I indeed liked and subscribed to the channel. Looking forward to seeing more content.
Great to see the V2H in action it is quite impressive. And having so many kWh available is great. We have Powerwalls and Solar and really like it. The takeover is so fast the TV and computers are not effected. But had the V2G been available I would have been tempted to go that way and use the Power in our X and 3. Hopefully Tesla will bring V2G on all their vehicle by the time we need to replace the Powerwalls.
So a 19% share of your Cybertruck battery was giving you a days worth of home power. Just to put into perspective that must be around 60 miles of driving, so demand and draw on the battery is much lower than the load for driving. Great to hear that Tesla are looking to add more functionality and that if you have a Powerwall installation is simplified. Hope that this can be rolled out to other Tesla models.
Universal wall connector is showing the led lights going the opposite direction that it normally cycles when it is charging. It is going to opposite direction when you are running off from the cybertruck.
11:47 Notice the direction of the lights. When charging your car the green beam "travels" DOWN into the car. When PowerSharing into your home, the green beam "travels" UP into your home.
My installer was able to include microwave and oven but not the AC due to LRA limitation. I’m sure you have a sub panel inside that powers everything outside of main panel that has your AC Oven and Solar.
Hi Chris. Love your videos. Very interesting how the Powershare works... really neat. I'll take your old wall connector. I live in Orange County and can pick it up :)
Not lucky enough to have electric dryer outlet as it’s gas. But the breaker is right next to the car so if I had your charger I could put it in quite easily and in my present situation it’s the only way I could afford it. The standard house outlet charging is killing me. Local to you and can pick it up.
Love the video and super jealous. Curious about the fact your breakers are on the outside of your house. So anyone or the elements can turn the power off any time?
hey ive owned my model 3 for about a year now still using a dryer outlet in my garage that only reaches one space in my driveway. having the wall connector could reach any space would be pretty nice 😂
Looks like there's still a lot of work needed for PowerShare to match the capabilities of a Powerwall installation. As it's implemented now, CT with PowerShare will unlikely take away market share from Powerwall. Maybe that's by design, especially since PowerShare supposedly works with any homes with Powerwalls. have had my tesla for about 5 months now absolutely love it. Except for having to drive out to charge it :( Charger would help me out simply because parents are iffy about me installing it at home.
If you have a Powerwall installed with solar panels, the Tesla app has a setting to which you can direct excess solar production exclusively to your Tesla vehicle. it's called "Charge On Solar".
I understand the universal charger and the gateway comes with foundation series also $2500 to purchase equipments, what other equipments do you need for the installation which can be purchased with Tesla credits also how much does it cost to you, I see you haven’t replied to previous comments on the cost but if you can give us a ballpark estimate that would be nice.
Hey Chris, like your videos the one on camping with your dogs was fun. If the charger is available I need it , buying my first tesla and everything adds up.
Living in Texas the nema 1450 that came with my car gets degraded and charges slower due to the plug over heating. Wall unit I have been told would not have this issue. If you still looking for someone to take it off your hands let me know. Thanks!
Not sure if you covered it, but besides getting the permit, did the install and activating have to be coordinated with the county or utility company? I'm thinking of how when I got solar panels installed, a lot of the paperwork waiting and eventual permission to turn on was on the county permitting side.
11:45 it actually looks like the green pulse is moving in an opposite direction of normal. I have a gen 3 and I know the green pulse starts at the top and moves down. Here it looks like the pulse starts at the cable side and moves up, indicating power is coming from the cable.
@@EverydayChris I wonder if there's something hardware wise with the Cybertruck that none of the other models can PowerShare. It's a really cool feature. I've been looking at adding solar panels and/or a power wall, but if there's a software update that the Model 3 can PowerShare with the new universal wall connector, that might be interesting. Also, I really like your content and just subscribed! I'm filming a bunch of Tesla stuff as a TV meteorologist that made the switch to EV.

Hey Chris keep up the work! Would love to upgrade my nema plug
Thanks for sharing, very interesting. Loving my new Model Y.

11:45 it actually looks like the green pulse is moving in an opposite direction of normal. I have a gen 3 and I know the green pulse starts at the top and moves down. Here it looks like the pulse starts at the cable side and moves up, indicating power is coming from the cable.
Correct noticed it after filming. Like it’s going back into the house
My uncle just got a cyber beast and I bet he would love to have your old charge thingy.
Just use a cutout switch on your home power input and turn off the power coming to your house to use powershare when electricity is more expensive
