The smaller the project the harder to turn. If you buy cork just be sure it is the soft and smooth type that is nice and soft and flexible; some are not. Good quality cork is a must. This is the lightest wallet anyone will ever carry!
Hi Rob - I just got a roll of cork fabric with gold flecks - gorgeous. I look forward to watching any further videos about cork fabric! I was thinking of making a notebook cover for my first project. thanks!
Great project, a man mini wallet. To save your fingers from getting burned making the trim, use a bias tape maker and give that fabric a little spritz of sizing.
Hi Rob, thanks for another great tutorial. I'm pretty good at sewing but the measurements on this are just a wee bit close. I can't put 2 cards side by side and or close it for that matter when i have a card in front and obe in back. Maybe adding a half inch to the length will help. Making second one now.
Great quick project, cork fabric or not! If you could spend a little more time at the beginning of vids showing the finished project up close that would be super awesome! 🤘🤗
This is the first video I've seen actually sewing with the cork fabric. Looking forward to other projects you make using the cork. I purchased a cork piece from a class. Where do I find more? Quick and to the point videos. I like that! Thank you!
Hi, Anita! My seam guide came with my machine, but I also like to use this magnetic one: www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/67125/brewer/-/seam-guide-magnetic-large-with-handle
Hi Rob, thanks so much for the wallet tutorial. I will be making one of these for my husband. But, I do have a question about your cordless iron. My last iron literally bit the dust (courtesy of granddaughter#1) and I would love to replace it with a cordless iron. The only reason I haven't bought one yet is lack of good information. I would love to hear what you like/don't like about your iron. Thanks so much. Debbie...(0;
Hello, Debbie! Thanks for tuning in! I like my cordless iron, and it is nice to not get wrapped up in the cord! One thing I will say about it is that it only heats when it is on its base, so if you like to do a lot of ironing at once, it may lose temperature, and you'll have to return it to its base. I hope you enjoy making a wallet!
Thanks for getting back to me. I am in the UK... and we don't (or at least I haven't) ever got one of those... but they look sturdy.. Thanks for all your videos... x
I love the idea of using cork. My question for you is can you maybe show how to make a wallet that the spots for your cards face toward the center? Does that make sense? My son and husband don't like their cards inserted the way you made this one. I love all your tutorials I have watched so far!!
Hi Arika! Thank you for the suggestion....I'm actually working on a project similar to what you described for an upcoming Missouri Star Quilt Co. project, so stay tuned! :)
Just subscribed! Question: What model sewing machine are you using in this video? It looks like it can sew through anything. My current (very old) Brother is a very simple machine that refuses to sew anything thicker than two layers. :(
So glad I found your channel! Subscribed. What is that guide thing on your machine that keeps your seams straight? I need one! Thank you :) edit: Edge guide. OK got it!
Hello there! It is a seam guide. I use the one that came with my machine, but the one works great, too: www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/67125/brewer/-/seam-guide-magnetic-large-with-handle
Several suggestions. Use 3/8 to 1/2" seam allowance and then grade them. Will turn better and lay flattter. Also grade corners. After cutting 45 degree, cut from side to corner reducing bulk even further. Actually grade corners first then sides. Next when sewing around sew from edge to seam line, rotate and then sew around finishing by sewing off the fabric. Then when you turn inside out the fabric will turn itself inwards automatically. Bias strips are easier to make with a binding tool which is very inexpensive. Or it can be purchased already folded. I think it's called single fold narrow bias binding. One last item. My preference is to iron seams open before turning. The result is a cleaner turn.
Please come up with a wallet or pouch using RFID fabric. My local store sells 9" x 11" pieces of the stuff and I can't find any TH-cam video that creates a wallet or a pouch that can use those dimensions. Thanks!
i love your channel but can you show an add-on to put a lock (IE: a pres-stud ) or a grommet to hang on a chain as where we live it warrants these precautions as told by the local police.
Hi Rob. Love this tutorial. Love the whole idea of streamline non fussy gents wallet. Would like to make as xmas gifts. Not sure I can get cork here in Wales UK. But am about to try faux leather paper instead as an experiment. You'll have a different name for it I think. Are you on Instagram? If it works perhaps you'd be interested to see end result
You are awesomely awesome, however, referring to a cork fabric as a fibre is slightly less awesome since cork is not fabric. Fabric only is fused underneath to hold it together since cork is actually wood.
I don't know how many there really could be because guys are pretty simple in what they use, but more "guy" things please! My husband taught me to sew (learned from his grandmother and he sewed our wedding outfits ... mine, his, and our two sons) and I'd love to be able to present him with things besides a lap quilt and wallet. What other stuff would be useful to men?
Rob, you must be sick of this question but how did you get interested in quilting? It feels very strange seeing a guy presenting. BTW, your tutorials are very clear and enjoyable
Hi, Catherine! Thank you for tuning into the Man Sewing tutorials! I was just featured in the Inspired to Sew magazine, and you can read all about my journey here: issuu.com/schmetzneedles/docs/its44-aug17?e=10258703/51551723 Hope you enjoy it!
Why the heck didn't you show what you finished?? You squashed it in your hand and basically said "later" Even it you messed up let's see it, we all at least I do mess up.
Hi Rob, thanks for another great tutorial. I'm pretty good at sewing but the measurements on this are just a wee bit close. I wish you would have shown the finished wallet. Very nicely done!! Love that sewing machine!!
I could learn alot from u.u are so calm, energetic and so informative.❤️
Cork fabric.. who knew.. very cool Rob

Super project for making presents for the guys in my life! Thanks!

Wonderful tutorial! AGAIN! I love your contagious enthusiasm and you always make it seem so simple. :D Thank You for sharing your passion!
Chop sticks work real well for pushing out corners.
Great project, a man mini wallet. To save your fingers from getting burned making the trim, use a bias tape maker and give that fabric a little spritz of sizing.
I think this would make a great gift for a teen boy. . .if you include money too. I love the look of it!
Is there an updated link for this pattern please...
Thank you 🙏 so much! For teaching This is so helpful I like the way you show your patterns and this is a great idea 💡 for Christmas gifts 🎁

Great tutorial! I'm motivated to sew with cork!
Awesome! Hope you have fun! I've really enjoyed it!
great mini wallet, thanks so much for using cork- great looking
Great quick project, cork fabric or not! If you could spend a little more time at the beginning of vids showing the finished project up close that would be super awesome! 🤘🤗
Thanks for the feedback, Leanne! Glad you liked the tutorial!
Great gift idea!
Great tutorial (as always!) I'm wondering if you tried grading the seam allowances before turning to reduce more bulk in the edges.
Thank you for this! I always have a hard time thinking of things to make for the men in my life.
This would be a great project for Boy Scouts-They could earn their sewing badge!
This is the first video I've seen actually sewing with the cork fabric. Looking forward to other projects you make using the cork. I purchased a cork piece from a class. Where do I find more? Quick and to the point videos. I like that! Thank you!
The Thackery on ETSY, cork and cloth, also on ETSY, sewdakine.com
this question is about you machine where did you get that item you have on there to measure your 1/4 inch seam allowance
Hi, Anita! My seam guide came with my machine, but I also like to use this magnetic one: www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/67125/brewer/-/seam-guide-magnetic-large-with-handle
I am trying to download the pattern but am getting an error. Is it no longer available? Thanks!
Hi Rob! What did you use as your trim? It wasn't the grap canvas was it? If so, was it wrong side out? I see it as a blue colored item. Thanks!!
Hi Elle! I used just a scrap of cotton fabric (the blue you are seeing). It is sewn on with the right side facing out. Hope you enjoy making a wallet!
I make most of my wallets and bags from Cork!
That's awesome, Heidi! I've had so much fun experimenting with it!

What kind of sewing machine did you use? Heavy Duty or..?
I have Brother GS2700 and I'm not sure if it can be used for sewing the cork fabric or not..
Hi what is the name of the foot you are using please?
Hi! I am just using a standard foot that came with my machine. Thanks for tuning in!
Thanks for getting back to me. I am in the UK... and we don't (or at least I haven't) ever got one of those... but they look sturdy..
Thanks for all your videos... x
What needle do you recommend for sewing with cork, please?
Hi Lynn! I use the Microtex 80/12 needles. :)
Can you recommend an iron?
Hi James! I use this one on set, and I really like it! www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/49545/panasonic/-/360-freestyle-cordless-iron-purple
Love it! Do you think any machine would handle the weight of the fabric?? I worry my regular machine won't! Thank you for your great videos!
How thick is that canvas? Is it comparable to Crossroads Denim?
Yes, Cheryl. It is very similar.
Sewing foot looks like a shan't 1/4 foot (no guide) single hole. I've seen them on the featherweight Singer.

Wow now that's very clever thank you Rob (smile n huggs)
why did you not show it ?
Hi Rob I love your tutorials. Could you make a tutorial for a ladies wallet.
Great tutorial can you please give us tutorial how to sew mens wallet from faux leather thank u
I suspect cotton duck or waxed cotton would work nicely too.
Just subscribed!

midwestslpphoto Check out the Sailrite LS-1 Premium Sewing Machine; it's awesome!
I think the machine says baby lock in this video. I have heard the Juki TL 2010q is one of the best. Sailright also. Both a little pricey.
Thank you both!

BTW - Brewer cork comes up as black canvas for me. Tried several times.
Hi Rob can you please do a tutorial on how to make a sewing machine carry- on bag for traveling.
Thanks for the idea! You never know what I may be making next! Thanks for tuning in!

Great tutorial!!!
Would love to see a minimalist wallet version that doesn’t fold, thanks for the video
what is a minimalist wallet version?
wow nice idea! well done :-). i'm gonna try this with leather ;-).
That's awesome! I hope you have fun making your wallet! :)
Cork ? Canvas? Qué otro nombre recibe ese material. Gracias
I used both canvas fabric and cork fabric to make this wallet, but you can use either one or a combination of the two like I did. Have fun sewing!
corcho y lona (?)
Nice.!!

wendy weatherson Oh wendy what a dreadful world we live in.

Great video! When you get a chance check out Sew Da Kine, Jessica is in Hawaii she makes some amazing bags out of cork.

I want to make one for hubby. One thing though, do you think you can talk faster, ha, ha

What a pity that you never even showed the wallet. Uugghh. 13:45 seconds for what.....
Why the heck didn't you show what you finished?? You squashed it in your hand and basically said "later" Even it you messed up let's see it, we all at least I do mess up.

Thought I was the only one who found it a bit tight. Good thing I'm saving cork scraps for other projects or else I might be miffed.
I upped the measurements by 1/4 inch and it worked out really good for me
