Thanks, OJ. Reviewing games has become somewhat of the industry. Professional reviewers have to rush the first few hours of a game and move on to the next project. I'm more interested in listening to people who dedicated hundreds of hours into the game.
I love how all the archtypes are so customizable as you get further through the game. Another enjoyable point are the characters you bond with outside of the main party. I really like how this game is a perfect blend of all the great traits of persona and SMT while bringing something new at the same time.
Easily my GOTY. The twist and turns in this story were crazy. I loved it! I love p5r but I was burnt out on it and had to push to make it to the end but this game I haven’t gotten tired of it at all.
It’s a masterpiece game no doubt but best Atlus RPG ever? Maybe wait a few months and calm down from being super hyped at the moment. It’s definitely a 10/10 game but I don’t know about best ever
Yeah it’s definitely hard to say but as for best ATLUS RPG it’s only competition on the modern stage is SMTV:Vengeance and Persona 5 Royal which are both top tier RPG’s for me
Besides metaphor, ive played p4 golden and p5 and id definitely say metaphor is much better than both of those games. What other atlus games would you rank above metaphor?
I really wish FIre Emblem implements the exp candie of when a promoted unit hits level 20 it gives you a candy level, it would be kinda like a more unbalance version of bonus EXP but could work in games like 3 houses where losing a character is an awful setback, would keep it organic and ensure people prioritze their choices
This is the same level of love for persona 3,4,5 and shin Megami Tensei 3,4,5 and Digital devel Saga 1,2. I have played those multiple times in my life.
Metaphor was good but not as good as I thought it would be based off the demo. Story was mid but it did get good near the end. Dungeons were okay. Game was still fun.
Agreed. Persona is good but after persona 3 the story and gameplay structure didn't have enough variety for me This game does a great job of taking the foundations of Atlus games that are good and making a game that isn't merely a copy and paste with alternative additions to story and chatacters
I am gonna be honest here. It’s a great game, but I just don’t vibe with it along with some others I have seen. The gameplay, the setting, and vibes are just not my style. No hate here, but I am kinda tired of people comparing it to Persona and acting like it is superior when they are fairly different.
I do really enjoy the game. My first with calendar system. My only gripe is it sometimes falls into a pattern of 3-4 hours of just talking and story to then doing 2 -3 dungeons for 4 hours. Lol its not very balanced. I know you can tackle things differently but doesnt make sense to go to a dungeon then back to town and waste days.
I'm playing through all the GOTY contenders, and just finished Metaphor seeing as how it's the most recent release. It's very good, but I definitely wouldn't call it the best game release of the year. It has some major weaknesses that can't be ignored: outside of Dragon's Temple and maybe Mt. Vulkano, the dungeon design is seriously lacking in practically every regard, the game also feels crunched and rushed in the late-mid game, and the difficulty is wildly out of whack with a few boss battles being insane and pretty much every other battle being forgettable after the early game and a breeze in the late game. I do have to say that this is the first Atlus game I've actually finished, as I never got through the last month in both P4 and P5. The QoL improvements drastically eased my conscience with regard to the Calendar system and gave a lot more flexibility and speed to what you need to accomplish. The music is good, but with only a couple of memorable tracks FFVII Rebirth crushes it in this category without question. In total, the game feels very much like a streamlined Persona or simplified SMT. It basically smooths those game series over with the QoL improvements, but doesn't quite hit as many highs as, say, P5 or even P4. Rebirth is my GOTY at this point; Chadley is really the only serious detriment to that game, and everything both it and Metaphor do similarly Rebirth winds up being more polished at at the end of the day.
What would an enhanced version even bring to the table, we even got to see what happens to the party post final boss. A Sequel with a new cast and setting is what Studio Zero should prioritise

160 is definitely too much, I finished the game in like 110 with every side quest and almost every side boss done (there is one dragon in a book I didn't know about)
I thought it was quite bad. Very messy, and probably lacked some sort of coherence. Didn't understand how the main character took the prince's form. Then the humans aspect was a bit too much, and then the back story for Louis came too late, turns out he wants to adopt monster evolution... then the kings memory helping you out. The game started very poorly with no backstories at all. Mid game was ok, majority of the locations were never explored. They didn't even do a dungeon for magical academy, which I felt was integral to the plot. I felt the game was rushed and they ensured it was as long as persona 5. I felt metaphor was a poor game, having beat it, I didn't like it. Even the cast of the characters... I never felt any attachment to them. The only segment I liked was the monster baby and evil mom segment... but even that, you never really know how and why humans turn nasty... It had a lousy story, good structure, short gameplay loop and forgettable characters. I maxxed out all relationships and defeated the dragons. My view is this was a poor release. They ought to have meshed the story a bit more and needed more dungeons.
How the main character took the prince’s form was that the prince was using a real life technique called “Bi-location” where you can be in two places at once. In order to use “Bi-location” you need to first understand how to exist outside of the body. Desperation can force one outside of the awareness of the body and thus the prince’s desires for a fantastical better world fueled his desires to partake in this forging of a new world. When Bi-Locating it is normal to not remember intellectually that you are who you are and thus you will find yourself creating a new body and adopting a temporary identity that fits the current task at hand. I recommend researching the many saints who achieved Bi-Location in our own history, Buddha did so as well and would use different patterns on his feet to showcase the quirks of such an act. Jesus Christ within the Bible used Bi-Location to address his disciples after going into hiding after his “resurrection”. Krishna allegedly Bi-Located over hundreds of thousands of times to spend time with each of his wife’s who each had particular taste in men and so he adjusted each and every Bi-Location avatar for each and every one of them, at the end of every night Krishna would have each Bi-Location fuse back into them as if they had become one person. Don’t assume just because you don’t understand a concept you can just call it bad. It’s very much a normal thing and surprisingly common even in our own world. Nothing messy about this game from my playing, I was able to follow along quite simply.
Also “you never really know how or why humans turn nasty” did you pay attention to the story they explain it pretty plainly. The anxiety of their own agency as the sole agents of change in their world turned them into monsters as they spent more time arguing over what was right and wrong as opposed to just working with their anxiety and banding together. They literally explain this in the Elden Sanctum
