Saying accounting is also known as bookkeeping is kind of like saying mathematics is also known as addition - there is way more to accounting than just bookkeeping. Also, a supply is not an asset unless you're purchasing enough that you would need to track it as inventory, otherwise it is an expense. Without showing the revenue and expenses portion of the debit/credit system the expense should reduce equity, not increase assets. In reality you would track revenues and expenses separate from assets, liabilities and equity, then at the end of the month or year close revenues and expenditures out to equity, but then that starts getting into things way more complicated than the scope of this video.
Supply would not be considered as an expense unless if it was used, if supplies were purchased and were not used, it would be considered as cureent asset.
Why don't they teach these math basics in school? I had to take a business course in grade 9. (It had a typing class.) At least I learned the basics on cheques writing and basic bookkeeping. It really helped me, years later, I think.

Most of my friends and family consider me "bright" and some even use the label "brilliant" -- and I have a "gifted or highly advanced" IQ -- yet nobody has ever been able to explain the basics of accounting to me. I've tried taking classes and I even have a relative who is a "bookkeeper." I hope this video helps!
