Pier fishing!! fish almost takes my whole pole!!

Fishing at Shelter Island again. Unfortunately, I did not capture it on camera, but my fishing pole almost went over the railing twice!
In the video, I ask for tips and tricks to catch fish. What setup do you use when fishing at the pier or in the ocean?
