How To Carpet a Custom SubWoofer Box for Beginners

  • I have finally built my custom subwoofer enclosure. It will be fully functional to use it like it is but it sure doesn't look very good. There are many ways you could cover your subwoofer enclosure like simply painting it or using a truck bed liner for a really rugged look. I prefer to use speaker enclosure carpet because it gives you a nice professional look and like it belongs in your trunk. Carpeting your box can be a bit intimidating at first but I found this method of carpeting to not be that hard to do. You will have few seams on the sides and bottoms but will be hardly noticeable when done right. There are more advanced ways to carpet an enclosure that hides the seams better but does require the box to be built in a certain way. I just found this to be the simplest way and still looks great! Thanks for watching, stay safe and have fun!
    Disclaimer: Work on your speaker enclosure at your own risk. You are solely responsible for your own actions. Always use proper safety equipment for the job.
    Tip: always use a new razor edge for each cut. It will give you the cleanest lines

    This is a great video, shows the more realistic side of DIY box construction. Basic spray adhesive and simple tools, this is where it's at.

    Good simple tips. I have been doing this for 30 years. I can make a good enclosure but still can't carpet worth a hell to save my life.

    Great video man. For a better, more durable connection, run 2 good bolts with washers and nuts for your terminal. Small dab of sealant and you're good!

    On the back of the box spray you could paint the box black where you plan on slicing the material. This way should the material open up or shrink the gaps will be harder to notice because the wood will be black.
    Its juat an idea.

    Are you familiar with custom boxes that fit under rear bench seats in trucks. I have a Bbox A202-12CP Dual 12" Sealed Carpeted Subwoofer Enclosure. One problem is that my JL Audio 12W3 3-4 is to deep to fit this box. Next the box could be built deeper towards the rear of the truck and finally I am wondering if this box (with some altercations, could be vented or ported. Can you please help?

    • @4WheelKid

      I'm not to familiar with those, unfortunately the box with probably have to be redesigned completly

    How many before I stop getting glue visible on all the seams and ragged knife cuts? I'm only doing 2 and one will be mostly hidden, so hopefully it only takes one practice sub...

    i have carpet my first box but i was not completly happy how it was turning out on some of the spots where the carpet meets you can see wood. I painted it witch black so it wasnt really that bad. Does this come with practice or i am doing something wrong

    • @4WheelKid
      @4WheelKid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah it takes a few boxes to get it down. try using a new razor blade for each cut, they dull quick

    That terminal will be enough to handle the power coming to the sub?

    • @4WheelKid

      Yeah it should be fine since its AC current, on a bigger system you may want a better terminal cup

    Using a retractable blade knife, and you can probably built and carpet a dozen boxes with a single blade.
    Carpet layers do an entire room with a blade or two, but flooring carpet definitely dulls blades and in that instance blades are CHEAP. compared to to the carpeting, it’s an expendable.
    I was surprised when you got to the first side and you had the perfect crossing lines. I expected the first two flaps to be the two opposite triangles, and the second flaps to fill the openings. That would leave a flat surface and ideally zero visible seams.
    The circular flap is the same result, but maybe there’s a reason I’m unaware.

    • @4WheelKid
      @4WheelKid  ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah those are much better, just snap a new one off. yeah i'm not the best at it. if I did a ton of them I would be much better. i'm happy with how it turned out though

    • @STV-H4H
      @STV-H4H ปีที่แล้ว

      @@4WheelKid actually, I was completely surprised that (at least the fiber type METRA speaker carpet I bought on Amazon) the stuff DOESN’T CUT FOR SH1T even with a brand new utility knife blade!
      Part of the issue was technique, but in the end I resorted to using regular razor blades like you used. Lol.
      Every pair of scissors in my house were garbage.
      As for the snap off blades, I wasn’t suggesting those, and I’ve never had one that was worth the effort. Blades would snap off everywhere except the perforation line!
      Get a Dewalt (I happen to just gave that brand) or hood constriction type knife. I buy boxes of blades with like 50 inside, ($20?, it’s been a couple years) and so I always have spares.
      I do electric work mostly, drywall etc. building speaker boxes wasn’t what I was working on, but it was the same carpeting methods I came to find your video.
      Good work. Fwiw.
