Creating a DIY Brass Range Hood for under $100! | EXTREME APARTMENT KITCHEN MAKEOVER

- This week, I’m continuing the makeover on my apartment’s kitchen!
Now that we’ve gotten past the big hurdle of painting the cabinets, it’s time to turn our attention to the hood of my stovetop. It’s rusted and outdated- an eye sore.
This week I attempt to make a cover for the hood that blends in with the cabinets, but is also a showstopper! And I’m using REAL BRASS to do it!

Talent, Ingenuity, Vision ❤❤❤the brass effect. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Hey, you can just tell everyone "it's a hammered look" 😅
Haha exactly!
Wow! For under $100, that turned out so well! Great job :)
Thanks!
We all know that hindsight is 20/20, so for next time, use another piece of wood the same size as what you wrapped to put on top before clamping. Yhat will hold it flat and snug while curing. Also, if you ever want to ever paint that hood, you can get high heat automotive spray paint. I used it for a fireplace surround. It's heatproof up to 500 degrees
It’s coming together!
I think the project turned out beautifully! The brass tone is perfect for the green cabinetry.
Thanks so much!
Wow- I would’ve never thought to do this, it looks so professional! I like the bumpy surface the E6 gave the brass- it looks kinda old world. Great job! 🎉 I’m looking forward to see the rest of the makeover
Thanks!!
❤❤ Every project is so well thought out. It all begins in your head... You are an amazing VISIONARY! I admire the way you are able to bring your ideas to life with a combination of creativity and hard work to navigate around the unexpected obstacles!!! L👀KS great!
Great job on the hood! I’m kinda digging the bumpy brass look. I think if it had turned out very smooth it would’ve given it a very industrial look. It turned out great! Keep the videos coming I am thoroughly enjoying them.
Yeah now that I’ve stared at it for a couple weeks, I definitely think it was a happy accident.
I'm loving the makeover! Your plants need help though boo
Your video just popped up in my feed.
You do INCREDIBLE WORK!🙌🏾 #newsubscriber
Beautiful🤩 You did a wonderful job love😊
Was the bubbling caused by so many clamps while it was drying? I'm wondering if putting the brass strip down, laying the wood on top of it and weighing it down would have given a smoother appearance?
You need to clean up the paint on the wood shelves
All of the shelves and backsplashes are getting replaced in the makeover.
@@DesigningTheDream89 oh ok 👍🏽 I’m like oh no he got paint on those beautiful shelves. But loving the kitchen so far. I would’ve never picked that color bcuz I’m like it’s gonna be to dark but nooooooo it’s Absolutely Beautiful
I’m worried about the volatile compounds that heat up and get into the breathing air every time the old paint heats up. Is there some type of abatement paint you could have sprayed on the old paint before applying the new finish?
Love the kitchen transformation! Please tell me Where did you get the brass?
Thanks so much! I got the brass from Amazon! I’ll ad a link in the description! 😊
I love what you did but my friend you did everything the HARD WAY. You have unlimited patience and don't give up, I have NONE.
Could you have adhered the wood to the existing hood with your desired adjustments or modifications? They do sell very short machine screws as well. Since that hood is solid enough, that would have been time saving and so much easier. I think construction adhesive sold like caulking would have been heat proof enough, I am sure there are ones that are high temp. You need a 3 dollar caulking gun, but you could use one elsewhere.
I do not blame you with the contact adhesive, especially doing it alone. That is to much of a risk.
But I am sure there is an adhesive that would withstand 200 - 250 degrees or so. The paint stayed sticky but I don't think the heat was the problem, I know that if you spray lacquer in more than 50% humidity it just does not dry. IDK.
Since the brass is so thin, you could have used a regular rolling pin to level out the air and clumps of glue and I think it would lay flat. They sell a special heavy metal roller but you wouldn't need it for that little band.
Most hoods are HUGE and dominate the kitchen and are the focal point of the room, why emphasize an exhaust fan? The look and scale of this is perfect to me.
You got there in the end, congrats.
The palm tree behind your head, Is REALLY dry, water it = BROWN EDGES
❤For a slightly different look, I would have gone with a teal tile and paint with copper fixtures…I saw that in a bathroom with similar tiles and a copper claw foot bathtub… It was absolutely SUBLIME!!!❤
You might test, on some scraps, tapping with a ball peen hammer. It would give an intentional hammered effect.
I would've raised up the middle cabinet and removed the vent and replaced it with an above range microwave/conventional...since the electrical was already in place, I did it in my house...its not difficult at alllll
