They're beautiful, and she loves them. The price surprised me-just over $50 each. I’ve seen larger pieces cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

my grandma (98 year old, still alive, and my mom around her 70s) did most of this work when they were young. I still remember my grandma hand-made shoes for families. I got my last pair of shoes from her in 1988, and she told me "boy, I am old, can't make shoes any more. this is the last pair I made for you". And, my mom can do similar. I remember she hand-knit sweaters/socks (毛衣/毛线袜) I wear everyday when I was little. Most Chinese ladies are able to cook/knit/embroidery/taking care of kids/olds 40 years back. I really appreciate and love what they did to me. people just gradually lost those skills in modern times. thanks for making this video, which brought me back to old time when a little boy was with his parents and grandparents.
@suddenlysunday work outside and earn money for a living. Back then there will be lots of kids in one family, probably up to 10 or more since most women get married at the age of 16 or so. Women doesn't have a chance of choosing their own husband, so having these skills are important to get chosen by a decent person to live with for the rest of their lives, especially for girls born in wealthier families, because in ancient times a man can have lots of women. To be the formal wife and not the concubine, mastering these skills is a must to be a proper lady.
Well my grandma made traditional clothes in her entire life from small doll size to actual human size, she even done this of course with help at the age of 90-91, but on her last years due to old age she stopped doing this, she passed away near the end of november 2019. She did pass on her knowledge to someone who owns a small scale factory that makes clothes thankfully. because on her last few months she became completely bedridden. the day before she died I was the one who visited her in the morning, she was unresponsive, if I moved her hand she would scream cuz of the pain but thats all. She lives the good age of 95.
She lives such a meaningful life. From cooking, to sewing,to painting, to making a traditional oven, to building a patio. In every thing she does she puts her heart into it. What golden lessons we learn from her.
The reason why Li Ziqi took these learning processes is to tell us that she is not born with all the skills, she is also learning one by one, including the cute oven she built before, also after watching video through the laptop.

While I was surprised by what she said, I liked the total honesty in her feedback. I'm from the US and I think a lot of people here were raised being told that everything they do is great and that just trying their best is good enough, even when it's bad. I'm lucky to not have been raised by american parents. I would hate to have grown up without honest criticism, even though it hurt sometimes.

I see so many people saying that she is perfect and knows all the skills and they couldn't do it themselves. Yes you can. Liziqi wasn't born with these skills. She learned them. Someone passed on that skill to her. She went to a class to learn it. She tried it, had an error and corrected it the next time. Maybe she reads how to do things on the internet. You can do it too if you want to!
I agree with you in the uk there are hidden skills over here what were not allowed to embrace them as was stuck in a system leaving the nine-to-five job and lot of artwork and creativity is not recognising off in the UK this work is beautiful the majority of the people wherever they leave they probably don't get a chance to learn and be creative but I guess mentally you have to make time to make things happen

Channels like this have helped me strangely enough come to terms with a lot of things I stress and worry about. Seeing the details that go into making something allows me to appreciate it more and be less wasteful. I don’t worry about timeline on things anymore , because as long as your doing the work, the rest will fall into place

i dont think people understand how impressive this type of embroidery is, its done in layers to mimic real life, like realism in art. not only that but the threads and the fabric are all silks and are incredibly thin and fragile 0:41 is where they show a double sided embroidery very impressive and very expensive

For those people who claim that she is an actor... I am Chinese and my grandmother knows how to do this artwork. I have tried to learn this for several months on my summer vacation but still could not do the simplest job. You can't "act" these skills.
A lot of Chinese immigrants in my area have this art displayed in their business and houses, not long ago I learned it was made by most of the women in each of these houses!!!!
I am Turkish, and my grandmother, mother, sisters, and I know this artwork. Traditionally, in my country, girls make some things like pillow cover, warm blanket cover, table cover with this method, and they put them in their marriage chest. This artwork is still alive in my country. It is transferred from generation to generation. Also, you can learn it on the artwork course in the Public Education Centers.

Some of the things she shows were teached by her grandma. Some others the learned or saw a tutorial and gave it a try. Feel inspired by her. And also..try something new for yourself. It's also a vastly different style to the western type of embroidery that I was taught. I have no doubt that her teacher is a master, but there's no point having a master teacher if the student themself is not studious and hard working.

I don't understand how anyone can be unhappy with her work. Heck, I get it takes a lot of practice to become a master but dang the girl is trying and clearly giving it her all. I see so many people saying that she is perfect and knows all the skills and they couldn't do it themselves. Yes you can. Liziqi wasn't born with these skills. She learned them. Someone passed on that skill to her. She went to a class to learn it. She tried it, had an error and corrected it the next time. Maybe she reads how to do things on the internet. You can do it too if you want to!

Channels like this have helped me strangely enough come to terms with a lot of things I stress and worry about. Seeing the details that go into making something allows me to appreciate it more and be less wasteful. i dont think people understand how impressive this type of embroidery is, its done in layers to mimic real life, like realism in art. not only that but the threads and the fabric are all silks and are incredibly thin and fragile

I've been doing embroidery for almost two decades now, and my skills are nowhere near as refined and skillful as this! I'm utterly in awe!
Maybe she got a little help there, or she had a god teacher with lot of time and skills
It's also a vastly different style to the western type of embroidery that I was taught. I have no doubt that her teacher is a master, but there's no point having a master teacher if the student themself is not studious and hard working.
I love how the instructor was still not satisfied but I'm over here mouth agape because of how beautiful it is like omg idk if I could ever create something like that.

Watching these videos, you can feel the generational knowledge that's been handed down. So many young people disregard the old ways, and to see them showcased in such a loving and respectful way is beautiful.
