Several years back SMTV visited Richard Paterson in his Whyte & Mackay hideaway in Glasgow. In part 1 of this 2 part segment we start to get a glimpse inside the mind of one of the whisky industry's leading Master Blenders.
"Keep it in your mouth do not swallow, it makes it special"... Well played Sir.
Hahahaha
lol
😂
lol
hahahhahha omg
I could hang out with this guy as long as he brings his own mop and whiskey.
*Whisky
Ahahhahhahahahhahahhahhahahhahahhahah
@@StuPedazz it's Whiskey...or whisky. It doesn't really matter :)
Bob van der Lelij *guisqui
If he’s bringing around 64 year old scotch he can throw whatever he wants on my floor
At the time we shot this video the lady on camera did not even like whisky. She was on the crew and got roped in to be on camera on the spur of the moment. One positive effect however was that she is now a real whisky afficionado. Thanks for the comment.
You turned her into an alcoholic lol
Thats cool to hear!
@@dragonkamran Aye, now she drinks meths, paint stripper and lighter fuel.
Don’t let your mother around him
HHAJAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH
Shit, I'm tryna get new stepdaddy
looooool no chance sir
He definitely going get the draws double time 🤣 a real Glen Quagmire! Giggity Giggity!! Boom💥
Thank goodness someone did. I wouldn't be here otherwise! 🎉
Imagine having 64 year old Dalmore as one of your first experiences with single malt.
It's like visiting Italy. You go to Rome first, the 80% of Italy will feel not so beautiful after. :)
I somehow doubt it@@cristic767
It's like 100$ at liquor store
@@CrabbinFever$100?? 😂 closer to $100,000
@EggBoxingFactoryManager First off watch your mouth and smarten up, no offense. Lastly, yes, this is maybe 100$ at the liquor store.
Well, this has been a fantastic rabbit hole to go down this evening.
money means nothing to this man, presentation is everything.
He's like a hypnotist
Yip. That’s cos whisky is a huge con trick
I could listen to Richard speak for hours. Very soothing, confident voice
Bob Billings he’s a confident guy

GOD LOVES YOU.....
I started to say hello to my glass of whiskey, and im being told insane by my whole family
😁
Hahaha
How are you?
😂
Observe your ramen with respect, and use your chopsticks to pat the sliced pork with affection.
"Not even 60, but 64 years old..." My jaw hit the floor. I want to be this man.
This is one thing I LOVE about spirits. It's not just about drinking. There's a whole occasion around enjoying a drink. It's just that much more special.
he is like that magician that gets you drunk.
Best kind of magic....
As a pro magician and mentalist and published creator of mentalism I can see he’s studied some areas of trickery/ NLP/ hypnosis. There’s a reason he’s ‘hands on’ .It’s known as anchoring in the trade. He’s got his patter down to a tee. Bravo 👏🏻
@@unclejoe7958 what's hands on?
@@unclejoe7958 that's probably how he pulled that. And she still has no clue.
@@sowhat... first hands on, then hands down
My sympathy goes out to the carpet cleaner.
its ok he has a straw :)
tile floor...
im pretty damn sure thell leave it in there.. i think i might even pay good money to have richard paterson fling whisky on me floor
It’ll evaporate quickly enough.
Wisky will disenfect the floor ;)
I never enjoyed a whisky video in my life thanks to this man. I learned so much from this man and laughed at the same time.
A gentleman and master of his craft. I could spend a whole day with this guy telling stories and tasting whisky
I had that actual experience with him in that actual blending room. An amazing few hours.
Before I die, I must drink with this man.
amen to that
If you drink with this guy, you'll die.
Are you still there
Are you alive?
Checking in ?
"The last bottle of this was sold for 10 billion trillion something dollars" *2 minutes later chucks it on the fucking floor*
yep...but he didn't have to pay for it :-)
@@SingleMaltTv 💦
I actually thought that he chucked it too. But he actually chucked a less expensive one. The 10 billion trillion something dollar one was behind that glass.
It's a joke... Nothing is that expensive. Entire corporations aren't even worth that much... Duh
@@dickrichard626 not only that but well is there even such a thing as a billion trillion dollars? There's special terms for these amounts though I'm not sure if that would be correct too but maybe not the most proper term. I mean terms based on the amount eg. quadrillion, quintillion, sextillion etc etc
64 yr Dalmore!!!!!!!! He said the last bottle went for $32,000, well now in 2011 the last bottle went for $128,000 and he just throws a couple of drams in a glass for her to learn. That makes me cry.
A phenomenal presentation with rich history, detailed explanations, thorough lessons, and truly special whiskies...and she has the nerve to casually call it “stuff”.
"Swallow and deep breath-breath.. wait for it, wait for it"...pop!!!
The most interesting guy in the world's long lost brother.
She gave birth to a demanding baby 9 months later
He had a mustache and loved to smell wine glasses
His first words were, "Hello. How are you?"
@@donloyal amazing!
She just kept it in her mouth
Dam he's smooth, maybe not as smooth as his whiskey but damn smooth!
As a kid Richard Paterson used to play 'The Floor is Whiskey'.
I feel like crawling out of bed and drink some whiskey
it looks like he is "playing" with that whiskey, but thats just complete different level of enjoying something, its great.
wow i was entertained for almost 19mins from part 1/2, thanks! :)
I loved watching this how could you not be interested whisky drinker or not
She has the personality of a frying pan! He, on the other hand, is a pleasure to listen to...passionate, experienced, and witty!
You can tell by her smile that how much impressed she is my him
Very interesting,
I could listen to him for hours 👍
She has no clue what is going on.
@Dogurasu she drank the 64 year old stuff...
either does the con man my friend
Jim Rob she so boringness of his bullying bulleit bourbon
Actually, I think she does lol and thats the funniest part shes letting it happen cause our mans as smooth as his drinks haha
She'll find out the next morning.
I can't even afford to throw Jim Beam over my shoulder like that...
LMAO Perfect
The ultimate barman. I don’t favour whiskey but would happily spend my money with this guy. A real barman. Imagine if all bar staff were like this guy.
+Sir William Wallace it would be dangerous, we would never leave the bar.
I’d happily stay barside & be educated by the this guy. Let’s have toast ;)
what a character c:
i was actually fascinated by his passion for the drink.. very notable suggestions and observations.
i wish this man was my grand father! :D
At the term "gentleman" in the dictionary, there is a picture of this guy.
I could chat all day with this guy and be fascinated by his knowledge about whisky/whiskey.
Watch and learn about blending a whiskey and what makes it special.
She's going to wake up with her knickers the wrong way around 😂
that's about ~$8,000 of whisky on the floor?
The taste is mind-blowing.
Mr. Paterson is such a legend! 😂
This guy is amazing, very knowledgeable.
This is a 200 year old whiskey (throws it over his shoulder)
he's an idiot
@@maul_360 yeah just clean your glasses in double distilled water after they have been handwashed in warm water and soap. that removes EVERYTHING, leaves zero residue or soap.
Im like..thats cool...tosses whiskey iver shoulder....now see here thats a darn waste o whiskey
@@user-mz6ts4xn6i, it removes everything except the distilled water that you just used to clean the glass - listen to chemists and clean containers with what you will be putting in them.
he's the most Badass professional.
The charisma on this guy!
This guy is a mad man and I love him 😂😂💀
What a cool dude! I would absolutely love to learn from this man. You can tell he knows his stuff.
What an experience it would be to spent time with this man.
I learned some really neat tricks from this video to enhance the simmilar experience with fine cured cannabis flower as there are multiple flavor profiles in every type of flower that need to be explored and can only be experienced with proper technique
alternate title- How to not get friendzoned / How to pick girls in a bar by richard paterson

what a great a front guy for the company ...i love him i want more richard patterson + ive started drinking whisky now instead of beer lol
The only thing more stressful then not drinking whisky, would be drinking whisky with this guy.
Met him a few years ago, he worked for Chivas regal
I've worked for Chivas regal for several years. He has not worked for us in the past. Do not spread misinformation.
Wooo this man knows his stuff. Very impressed 5 stars.
Unreal 👌🏼
@Wokkaiser Hey no problem...we appreciate you taking the time to comment...keep it up. She did come in for a bit of a beating but really did not want to be in front of the camera. All the best and thanks for the kind words.
This guy is awesome
MR RICHARD PATERSON IS TOP OF THE CLASS !!! AN EXPERT !!
Smooth as fuck... I would love to drink whiskey with this guy.
no.. he dont drink the american shit whiskey hey drink the good stuff whiky..
Very impressive, very informative, very funny. Thank you, Sir.
@MrFuturedance Richard is quite the entertainer who roped the lady into the filming...she is actually a crew member...BUT...she did enjoy that whisky regardless. Thanks for the comment...appreciated. Cheers.
He knows exactly what he’s doing
Does this bar not have a sink?
Haha...it looks that way. It is actually the Whyte and Mackay blending room, more correctly tasting room....they have all their samplings here.
Scotland
A true Admiral Of The Sesh.
I followed his advice and was able to enjoy my scotch much more. However, given that it was a simple Glenlivet 12, that means I made the most out of a Mr. McDonald’s burger while he enjoys the best of filet mignons.
Glenlivet 12 is not bad mate, it ain't no Dalmore that's matured 30+ years, but it's not bad
So 12 year old whiskey are simple?
@@sowhat... In comparison
It's awesome to see how much he loves whiskey
ive been watcing part 1 now part 2 and i am drinking rum as they taste whiskey....im getting a little bit drunk and though : "wow, they must be drunk by now..."
really cool video man,...learnt a lot..and impressed my mates on the weekend..thanks
rizzler back in the days
Most hilarious and entertaining, thank you so much =)!
i feel like she didnt get most of the stuff he said
I have been drinking single malts for over 25 years. I have visited many distrilies and sat through many whisky tastings but after watching three videos with this guy I have learned so much and now realize I have been drinking it all wrong! I am not upset but rather happy to learn all of this!
I never liked whiskey but these videos really make me want to try some good ones. That being said I strongly doubt I can afford the type of whiskeys that deserve this leve of treatment.
I totally love this video, part one as well ofcourse.
I used to date his daughter. True story. Didn't chat too much but he's an exceptionally intelligent and interesting guy. Wish I'd liked whisky back then.
Wow! Can you tell us more? What it's him up to nowadays?
@@angelbryan98 No idea except I'm sure he got an OBE and he retired after 50 years in the business
@@TheClaptonisgod1 An out of body experience? Could you share it? What happened?
@angelbryan98 🤔🤣🤣🤣
Very good. That's an Order of the British Empire. For services to Scottish Whisky/Food and drink I'd guess.
@@TheClaptonisgod1 Ah ok, I misunderstood 😂
OMG look at her face this is all being lost on her! I'm so jealous right now.
Any dirty minded person would understand a lot more. 😂
Just leave it at sixty nine likes, it's so perfect this way.
Nicely done, my friend. Bravo.
He stains the carpet more than any drunk could
During the COVID19 Pandemic, I found how fun and great whiskey tasting is. I'm currently on most entry level bourbons, can't afford any $1,000 and up whiskeys yet, but I want to start trying some good Scotches as well as Irish Whiskeys as well. There's just so many different ones out there, so I don't know where to start. I've learned from your video that tasting the whiskey in the manner you show here really brings out the full character of the whiskey, so thanks for making a video like this! Also if you have any tips of where to start with a good scotch, please let me know!
For a Highland/Speyside Scotch, start with Monkey Shoulder (about $35). For a smoky Islay Scotch, start with Ardbeg 10 (this is hardcore but if you're going to go, then go big) (about $50 but worth it). For an Irish whiskey, Bushmills Black Bush and Sexton are good inexpensive Irish whiskeys (about $30) but if you can spend a but more, Redbreast 12 is excellent (about $50).
@@bdwilcox You know your very good price/quality whisky's sir. Cheers (drinking Ardbeg 10 now)
I have my rituals I plan around a great bottle, first a meal a nice juicy 1 1/4 steak porter house (med rare) golden potatoes the golf ball size cut in half toss in in a bowl with fresh rosemary, salt, pepper, olive oil and Parmesan cheese in the over till done and crispy, next sauté some onions and portobello shrooms and your choice of salad and jumbo shrimp skewered and grilled, and this weekend I'm celebrating a bottle of McAllen 18yrs with a cigar from Mr, Arturo Fuente anejo.. And after of course the sweet smell of my lady, Cheers.
heaven right there, my brother
Fuck me this is a nice comment. Mate, that sounds delicious. It's a pity you never learned how to punctuate though.
myownruin187 or you could just order to go at red lobster.. thats too much work for me man.
@Jason Rasmussen well, it depends on the cut really; generally speaking most common cuts are better medium. Like NY strip. Some juicy ones are actually better rare, like a juicy rib-eye.
myownruin187 God damn....can I trade my daughter for some food?
Which one worth to buy?
01.Glenfiddich perpetual collction vat 01 - 66.5$
02.Glenmorangie 10 - 60$
03.Glenlivet Tripple cast Matured distillers resrves - 67$
04.The GlenDronach Forgue Aged 10 years - 69.5$
05.Benriach Quarter Cask - 61$

I love this man. He's got a 1920 Madeira Bual in the back. Makes me proud of being from Madeira.
ladies man
I'm in no way an expert but JURA is by far the BEST affordable whisky going & I have yet to find a whisky that can surpass SUPERSTITION in taste. This was a great video!
Good Ol' Patterson
I cant wait for his next video. Where he breaks down the difference between scama, la batha and recon coke!
This place must smell like a party :D
Dudes smooth as butter lol
an extremely knowledgable and cultured salesman!
Im not sure this lady truly appreciates what this genius is teaching her.
Great video. Richard knows his stuff, I wish they would have had a drinker at his side instead of this lady who did not know what she was tasting! I've had 12,25 and even 50 year old Scotch, I would kill to sample what she got to try.
+Patrick John Photography To be fair I had whisky aged 15 with a bunch of Canadians (their treat). They had no understanding of the Highland, Islay, etc concept. When I asked what region it was from, answer was just 15 years old.
I am obviously not saying that you fit in this category.
This dude is so entertaining
