I vote Trumpet Snail! They are the best for building a strong ecosystem and healthy tank. Stirring up the substrate and cleaning everything better than anyone. I also learned once, if you have a problem and there is a sudden spike in bad water conditions, they will start climbing toward the surface. Even if the lights are on. That is a GREAT warning system for when you need to know something is wrong.
I think I have to vote for the Trumpet Snail. I really don't like seeing snails, especially big ones, gliding around in my tank. Plus I like the idea that they stir up the substrate.

Hello, My favorite snail is the Mystery Snail. I saw on Alex Williamson's TH-cam channel "The Secret History Living in Your Aquarium" that his heater cracked and electrocuted a tank full of shrimp and fish. He has an excellent tip that prior to servicing your aquarium unplug all electrical components.

My trumpet snails were completely free because they hitch hiked in with a plant or two (years ago). I was a bit freaked out at first, but now I don't mind them. They do no harm, but there sure are a lot of babies at times. I can't cut back on my feeding right now because I have a relatively young Betta in that tank, and I feel like she needs to eat more often as the toddler she is. I give her food a couple times a day. There are also furcata rainbows in there, and they are frantic eaters, so I feed them first. There are gobs of tiny trumpets in the tank now. Their population waxes and wanes, but i bet there are over a thousand in the substrate! I prefer the trumpets. I did buy four nerites recently, and they've all but destroyed the algae so I'm going to get them some algae wafers. I just ramble on. LOL. Have a great week!
I have a bunchof rabbit snails. Started out with 5 random adults. They have produced at least 12 babies! Though did dispose of a clutch of mystery snail eggs last water change.
I got my first mystery snail cos I thought he would clean my tank for me. He definitely did not do that. But holy cow it’s fun to watch my little snail buddy explore the tank with his derpy little tentacle face. He brings so much character to my tank and I’m totally team mystery snail all the way.
Trumpet snails can work as hard as a huge snail, I saw in my eyes that these trumpets are helping each other! One dad snail got stuck and lost his foot and guess what, the children reunited with the injured snail! And the mama Snail got sad and keeps retracting inside! What a lovely feeling hard working crew! The biggest child went over the dad and hid itself inside the dad back! Idk what's happening now help.
I love having snails in all my tanks. Even the trumpet snails,I just had to add a assassin snail in to keep the trumpet snails population under control.
Trumpet snails are natural indicator for a lot of things, as you said when you overfeed there will be too much snails, so you should cut off a bit your feeding, cause fish don't eat all of it, but secondly when there's a problem with oxygen or just bad water quality, they will go up even at the middle of a day- you should make water change because later it can harm your fish. I have trumpet snails in all my 4 tanks, i think i maintain my tanks properly so you rarely see a lot of them.
I have a mystery snail and an elephant snail in one of my Betta tanks. I do not have an algae problem at all the mystery snail sees to that. In fact I have to add wafers so bot snails have food. The elephant snail eats mostly everything else. It spends it's day cleaning gravel.
I think I would have to go with trumpet snails they truly are bulletproof you can even put them with African cichlids and I have heard of people even putting copper in the tank removing the copper and snails come back out love those guys
