sure enjoyed this one, there is something special about the driver being alone on a rear loader, whether it be commercial or residential, double-siding or riding the gutter...WM style. takes more strategy to get efficient and having dual tippers and packer controls is a helpful truck attribute. also effing love the brake noises, reminds me of an older NorCal Waste WXLL (ironically enough) I filmed and all the WXLL-Wittkes that used to rule the Puget Sound
Growing up with a selection of semi-automated rear loaders and MSL's coming to my house as a kid, it's a collection method that will obviously always hold a special place with me, and you are absolutely right in saying that something about one-man rear load just makes it all the more special. I absolutely love how this driver ran his route on the double-side streets - hop out, grab two carts from one side, then while they're up on the tipper, running and staging two carts from the opposite side, then cycling the packer while running back up to the cab. Not only did it make his route incredibly efficient, but it made for great filming as well. Really no "dead time" that I had to edit out, something was constantly in action. I'm also glad you made mention of the brake sounds too, they really make this truck feel a lot more "classic" than it actually truly is. If this route had still been filled with more of the older cart variety, one could have almost easily believed this video to have been shot 10 years ago!
Excellent camera work. I see you weren't at all shy about getting good hopper shots. With Recology replacing everything in Seattle, what sort of rear loaders can we expect to see on these routes in the future? Maybe some 5000s with a similar spec to this?
Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed - this was definitely a fun one to both shoot and edit together! 5000's would definitely be super cool, and my top choice, but Recology's northwest operations seem to be really big on New Way so I have a feeling we're going to be seeing a lot of New Way in Seattle real soon, but only time will tell for sure! Though I do know for sure that the electric trucks Recology is going to be trying out in Seattle are going to have New Way bodies, so that's probably a pretty solid indicator of what's to come.
Mike3141981 I actually love having my rear load route. This is me in the video and it keeps me in shape. I know I can’t do it forever. Asl will be in the future

Must not be easy running back and forth all day doing his route. Bet the driver wishes he had an ASL lol
No kidding! With a route like this, one definitely would not need a gym membership! lol
