It was Edward VIII who was famous for being fashionable and made Fairisle knitwear de rigeur in the 20s / 30s and later abdicated. Edward VII was the much older king who succeeded Queen Victoria at the turn of the 20th century, bewhiskered and rather portly.

I was wondering which yarn is softer? How do they behave differently when knitting and after blocking?

It's very hard to say which is softer - I think it depends on the skein you get and the exact grade of the wool that went into it! I would say that Jamieson's of Shetland Spindrift is on average a little bit softer but J&S 2-ply is more consistently spun. They behave almost exactly the same when knitting and after blocking, although the very occasional inconsistency of the spin in Shetland Spindrift may throw you off a little bit when knitting. I'd recommend trying a colorwork project with one brand as the background and the other as the foreground and see how you find it!
