The criticisms i hear regarding China pretty much always have to do with the Chinese government and not the people (which i think is fair personally. I’m ashamed of my own government too). I just wish my People could be more into doing things than waiting for Europe to pay us for not doing anything. It just goes against what we are as Portuguese - we are about solutions to problems, but we are being paid by the EU not to do anything. it is really sad to see my people and culture being bought to give up on themselves. The Portuguese hardly 'controlled the World' - explored and founded a dozen or so Colonies and outposts, Yes. Controlled, No. Compared to the British Empire - which did control much of the World and was the biggest Empire ever - the Portuguese barely made a dent.
I say the above not to belittle the Portuguese; Portugal and Spain with their their Navigational brilliance, courage and will to explore paved the way for the British Empires existence and this should be acknowledged. With that said - Britain is a fraction of the size of either Portugal or Spain - so, what made them succeed where they failed?

I'm not against white people, but as a black physicist working with many scientists from various backgrounds at one of the most prestigious universities in the wold in Switzerland, I can say it's beyond problematic to say white people are supreme (like we've seen with Hitler or now Israel as well as the other big 3 who constantly want to wage war against the foreign and are fear mongering) or that they've made everything: It's just wrong.

The problem with that is, many inventions and improvements of quality of life came from Arabs and moors too. Then white men took that knowledge and improved further. Now, iPhones and all that, gps, etc etc, white men can definitely claim all that if they want, but they didn't create everything.

See, Dr. Mark Dean is a Ph.D. from Stanford University. He is in the National Hall of Inventors. He has more than 30 patents pending. He is a vice president with IBM. Oh, yeah. And he is also the architect of the modern-day personal computer.
Dr. Dean holds three of the original nine patents on the computer that all PCs are based upon. And, Dr. Mark Dean is an African American.
So how is it that we can celebrate the 20th anniversary of the IBM personal computer without hearing much about him? It certainly isn’t IBM’s doing.
The mass media again are under the spotlight. Given all of the pressure they are under about negative portrayals of African Americans on television and in print, you would think it would be a slam dunk to highlight someone like Dr. Dean. Somehow, though, we have managed to miss the shot.
History is cruel when it comes to telling the stories of African Americans. Dr. Dean isn’t the first Black inventor to be overlooked….
