    Don’t know which was best- Julie picking Chatt 111, not sharing it with Phil or confusing the Willburys with the Highwaymen. All of the above 😂.

    I'm a big fan of the Chattanooga 111. Great taste, good price, very versatile bourbon. The roof doesn't smack you in the face, but it's there if you choose to make a cocktail.

    Nashville Barrel Co actually will ship to Oregon now! I got a package of a couple ryes and a single barrel bourbon from them a few weeks ago. They use an intermediary to ship, but it was all done from their website.

    I could be pretty close here on categories 1-4.For me, OGD 114 is a current fixation. I just grabbed a $12 bottle of Evan Williams BiB to revisit. Over the holidays, a store here in OKC had a stack of Belle Meade Reserve for $30(!!!), and it just kept sitting there...every few days I would be in and I couldn't not get another bottle..I have .several in the closet now. I stan either the Chattanooga 111 or Rare Breed (I feel like for me on some weeks, this is where Stellum or Wilderness Trail (yellow label) would fit. Category 5 is a tough one...but I've got a 7 year Nashville Bourbon Co pick that you've probably inspired me to finally get to...also purchased cuz of Josh & Erin. Cheers!

Before you announced the pairing I was mouthing "Tom Petty...Tom Petty"..and fist pump...Yes...Love that pairing. I've never been a huge concert goer, but this was one I did go to when he was in town in my younger days. Very glad to have the opportunity to see him perform. I must've listened to it over a thousand times.

    Watched a documentary on them recently. Really well produced.

    All my bourbons are +/- $30 and share one category: bourbons I really like. And our choice here in EU is very limited to be honest.
    WT101/Rare Breed, Maker's Mark, Eagle Rare, Four Roses SB and.. that's all.
    For special occasions I keep all kinds of whiskey from all over the world and cognac 😅

    Really enjoyed that one. Huge fan of the Traveling Wilbury’s. I think OG BIB as Roy Orbison is brilliant. To me anything that you drink too much of with a brilliant story on the bottle (aka “lyrics”) that then makes you sing indecipherably would be Bob Dylan. Perhaps Jefferson’s Ocean? Larceny? Bookers? Midwinters Night Dram? Great content as usual.

    Great video! With the exception of the last two "Special Occasion" bottles, I have the rest behind my bar and totally agree that they are wonderful pours, and something to keep on hand. Love the Traveling Wilbury comparisons! However, you need to come up with another bottle for Jim Keltner on the drums! Would love to sit down with you guy's some day to drink bourbon and talk music! :-)

    • @TheBourbonVan
      @TheBourbonVan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, something wonderfully versatile for Jim indeed!

    • @tonyn152
      @tonyn152 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheBourbonVan My thoughts on this :-) Since Jim Keltner was both a drummer, who is the strength and backbone of a band, and also also an in demand studio musician who needed to be flexible and adapt to any musical situation, I think his bourbons should have some muscle and complexity to them, and be a bit higher proof for some backbone, while also be perfect as a neat pour or on the rocks, while adapting easily to most any cocktail with their flavors out front and noticeable. My choices could be Old Forester 1920, New Riff Bourbon, Wild Turkey Rare Breed or Russell's Reserve Single Barrel. If you want to include a Rye, I think Pikesville would be a good choice as well.
      Then there is Dhani Harrison, while not an official "Wilbury," he did tour with Jeff Lynn and ELO, playing his Dad's Wilbury songs. Dhani was an acoustic guitar player, and kind of a soft spoken, easy to get along with person who fit into any situation, but never out front or in the limelight, but more of a supporting musician. For him, I think his bourbons should be lower proof, easy to drink and adaptable to any cocktail. For Dhani, some of my choices would be Makers Mark, Buffalo Trace, Jim Beam Black label or Old Forester 86. What would your choices be for these guy's? This is fun!

    Great choices, Phil and Julie. You know I love Belle Meade Reserve; it's my special drink also along with Smoke Wagon Small Batch. I love sharing Belle Meade and the cover story of the horse on the label. The horse on the right is Bonnie Scotland, born in England , came to Nashville to the Belle Meade Plantation in 1872. The list of race horses who come from Bonnie Scotland's down line include: Man of War, Sea Biscuit, Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Affirmed and others. Not too bad, right? The horse on the right with the fiery mane is of little significance except for his name "Brown Dick". I don't know how he got his name; I can only imagine. They used to put the name of the horses on the bottle, but stopped doing that for obvious reasons. A great bourbon to sip with special friends and a great story to tell while sipping.

    I LOVE the Willbury's!! Roy was the greatest voice in rock history! Still can't find Old GD (although I AM an old grandad!). 1783 was my favorite budget bourbon for a few years ( Evan Williams BIB is now). But I still have a handle of 1783 on hand! Do you prefer the 111 to the 91? I can't find either near MSRP here, so I have not tried either yet. By the way, Dylan in 2019 was the worst concert I have seen in 50 years. Great music, worst show ever.

    pls help me choose between of 1920 or the belle meade reserve

    • @TheBourbonVan
      @TheBourbonVan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are multiple ways to look at this question. If you're early on in your whiskey journey, the Belle Meade is probably more approachable. If you're looking to take your first foray into barrel proof whiskey, 1920 is a great entry point. It also depends heavily on palate preference. 1920 is more fruit-forward in our opinion, while Belle Meade has a richer oak and vanilla profile. Either way, we'd love to hear your thoughts on the bottle you pick up!

      We're terrible at mixology, but here goes. Grab a rocks glass and...
      - 2oz Evan Williams 1783
      - 1 small splash of real maple syrup (1/2 teaspoon)
      - 2 shakes of Black Walnut bitters
      - stir, add large ice cube, and enjoy.
