i think the GBB meta for the past few years has been trending towards people just doing showcases at each other so someone showing up and just freestyling their way through to the top is a breath of fresh air, and the battle energy is something that's much appreciated
@@sparkboygaming4195 of course, napom is the goat of freestyle, but he almost doesn't count because no matter what he will do well if he competes. he's basically outside of the meta. julard coming in as a newcomer and still being able to do it hopefully shakes up the meta a bit
Weird that napom won't win doing that sort of freestyle but somehow French beatboxers can do what they want and still win. Not hating on anyone personally but it's been a trend in the beatbox scene and it's a bit obvious and obnoxious
I honestly thought it was a pretty clear win for Julard, comfortably won the first round, and the second round was close. I wish more beatboxers would carry the counter through the entire round, I believe many of them have the ability to do so. If Remix for example could develop this skill then he could become near unbeatable IMO
I really thought Remix could be unbeatable just because he can do almost every beat from every beatboxer, just look at the ''50 copy medley'' or things like that, he just need to improve that AND BE NEXT GBB WINNER.
@@VeggaFR Idk if Remix can do polyphonic voice, but he has the same power as julard with better bass sounds. But he will definitely lose in originality
By the way, Osis started agressive vibes with his "F@ck the french" and passing the mic 3:08 ;) So next passing of mic by Julard 4:42 was the answer to Osis. The final touching was quit too strong for me, because he really turned Osis' shoulder using force while Osis didn't do enything and he was just walking through the stage being turned back to the opponent. So at least I guess it was just unpleasant in physical sense. This is different from Abo Ice touching Rivel last year, because Abo Ice did it respectfully and without shocking the opponent. I heard that in competition rules is written that touching the opponent is forbidden. D-low as a judge last year said in reaction video to Abo Ice vs River video like "What should I do? Just disqualify the toucher? Or minus points?" I think a little bit it should be in mind of a judge anyway. You can bring battle energy with a plenty of different ways besides touching. And this something more difficult and kind of sign of professional, I think. Otherwise, if we don't give a shit to thes rule we'll very soon have battles where winner win bacause of touches and not beatbox. I think that here I'd give 1 minus point for Osis in my head for his rude giving the mic to Julard, that was too agressive. And 2 minus poits for Julard for "final touch". Anyway, I think Julard won in battle area, Osis won in composition area. Technicality is equal, originality is quite equal (Osis has unique sounds, combinations and placements, Julard has unique execution of sonds and unique structure of whole piece even while improvising). That's my thoughts :) I'm not beatboxer, so I really can don't consider some important parts of analisys.
The big issue with the first round of osis is the use of vibration bass for the drop. If you watch at the start of the comp is vibration bass was really strong and clean but it seems like is throat probably got fried that's why the drop was pretty underwhelming, You can hear it too when he does the conceal round is inward bass/vibration sound pretty bad if he was fresh maybe he would of won but this day julard was just better gg
Stitch, what’s with this sound that’s like spitting out watermelon seeds that newer beatboxers are doing? It doesn’t fit the percussion sounds in 90% of the beats that I hear it in. Do you like it?
As a german (born as french hater) Julard clearly destroyed Osis here. In person the most powerful beatboxer by far and only very musical or unique beatboxers can beat Julard rn (you got a chance bro)
osis was very close imo but the only person who I think could have knocked julard out at this event was probably wing, but after he went out to kaji he just countered and overpowered the others
As much as I like Osis and his compositions his 2nd round was very rushed you can hear it in his voice apart from his 1st round… when Julard said It’s easy during Osis round Osis should have said yeah BRUV which part cause really all he copied was his liprolls and made them louder..but I will say 4:10 I think is a better showing that Julard can copy his combos to a degree
Here’s the thing I agree that there really wasn’t a good counter. However the way Julard did it was 1. Cleaner and 2. Definitely hit harder from a live standpoint in my opinion. I don’t think Imitations would get someone over the top. It’s the fact that he took the beat that Osis used and kinda made it his own.
Such a disappointing GBB. Julard just repeats everything, Remix gets robbed (IMO), Ice and Helium underperform, and Alexinho somehow gets into the battles over Stitch
Look I have one very specific problem with Julards rounds in this GBB: They all sound the same, like freestyles from a somewhat limited repertoire. I'd really like to know if anyone feels like he could reliably tell which round of Julard belonged to which battle if they were played to them in random order and with the obvious tells of the opponent (counters / voice lines) removed. I seriously doubt it, unless they have maybe played the battles over and over. And that's just odd for me in a showcase battle format such as GBB. This is not supposed to be hate towards Julard, just my personal criticism, which I hopefully could back up with a rational reason.
I disagree with this argument, because removing the counters is unfair to Julard's style. They are one of the main reasons he won, and a defining feature of beatbox battles. How about if you say remove Osis structure, how good are his drops? That's obviously unfair lol The counters are memorable and make it pretty obvious who he was battling. Every counter was effective. Also you would have to remove most of his first round here then.
@ you clearly missed the point then. my point is that his rounds are indistinguishable form each other if references to his opponent are removed. also it's really not hard to integrate any melody into your routine when your routines are drum-heavy. i can also do my usual drums and just put my opponents melody under them thats not really what makes a good counter. again, my only ciritcism here is that his rounds don't have individual character and thats something i value highly in a SHOWCASE battle.
@@0tiii And the references to his opponent are what make him the winner. That's why I disagree with this being a reason for him to lose. It may seem easy to counter like that but the key is that Julard is simply way more powerful than his opponents (at least on this sound system). That's what makes them so effective. You could break it down to "opponent's melody + drums" but the power is what sets him apart. Stitch says in this video he was like 5x more powerful than Osis live. Also the fact that no one else is countering at that level in this competition (for some years now) makes it unique regardless of how "easy" it is. Making set "songs" as battle rounds has become a little stale in the battle scene IMO, especially when they start to sound similar by the end, as with Remix, Kaji, Osis and Julard too in the second round. Respect to you for explaining your reasoning, instead of just saying "Osis robbed" lol
@@knaughta.masso-kist5944 I never said he should have lost, just critiqued a certain aspect I don't vibe with. Regarding the "set songs", that is literally what a showcase battle format is for. thats the difference between showcase battles and normal battles.
I think with the battle attitude stuff, some viewers are too sensitive to it, but at the same time it depends on how its received on stage. For examle, in river vs ice it was clear river didnt want to be touched, so in that case Ice shouldve read those signals and just left it, but in this case they were clearly both up for a little aggression and attitude so it was fine and clearly playful imo
in my opinion, Osis will always be a winner. this is the same situation as against ki in gbc, but i see inertia's rounds much enjoyable and julard's, no offense, not nearly as pleasant as inertias. in other manners, osis definetly took the win. Better structure, composition, variety. In this manner, i think remix deserved the win based on power solely, in osis vs remix if thats such a major criteria.
